Anyone else's 5800 sometimes fail to boot?

Hi,

My phone sometimes hangs on start from fully off. You get the word "Nokia" but the "two hands" never appear, and it hangs (I left it for an hour to see...).

Am I the only one that has this fault? Any ideas why it does it? it only does it maybe one boot in 5 or 6.

The only way to fix is battery out, remove memcard, reboot, shutdown again, reinsert memcard, reboot.

The reason I reboot every couple of days is because after a cold boot, free RAM (no apps running) is about 46MB, but after a couple of days it's down into the teens, and a reboot gets it all back. Otherwise I would never turn it off. Mainly I only use Opera mini, plus the built in browser, and Nokia Messaging. Plus the occasional other thing like Nokia maps 2.0, widgets now and then, etc.

Bit of a pain, any thoughts welcomed. 😊

Cheers,

Rob

No problems here. And i've not even read about your problem anywhere on the internet. You need to do a hard reset to fix this.

Cheers - I fear you are probably correct - it has done a few other erratic things lately after 5 months of being mainly stable - internal backup on the phone hangs and never finishes, and it won't sync calendar/notes/contacts with a desktop PC anymore. It's going from "smartphone" to "clever but unstable and a bit ill phone"...

Hi:

@jApi NL

Thanks for the suggestions, but I mean I suffer gradually reducing RAM, not reducing C: drive storage space (which is totally different).

Thanks anyway,

Rob

Thanks Rob . I was confused about C: and RAM , thinking they were related like 3 : 2 . But just found out they use different space .
Beside cleaning Clipboard I wouldn't know of any other method of spacing up RAM , then regular rebooting .....

😊 Regards jApi NL

I've experienced the same problem. The phone doesn't boot with the memory card inserted. When it happens I remove the card, let the phone boot, enter the main menu and then I can insert the card again and the apps installed there show up after a while.

I've read another forum post (I can't find it now) that tested the problem and it only appears after 40 or 50 apps have been installed to the memory card, so I tried uninstalling some apps and the last time I tried the phone did boot up normally.

Maybe you are experiencing the same bug.

I got my phone brand new 2 days ago direct from the Nokia online shop and it does the same thing hangs from time to time on start up. Taking out the battery seems to fix it. I only have 1 app on the memory card, the Iplayer. Any ideas, a great phone but this is very annoying.
