It's happened twice now, and I've only had the phone a week!
What seems to happen, is when it's on standby, I look at the phone, and it's showing a large exclamation mark (!) in a triangle followed by an animation pointing to the power button on the phone along with a clock showing 10 seconds.
Absolutely nothing responds. So I hold down the power button for 10 seconds, almost dreading in case it loses everything in memory. Fortunately it doesn't, and the phone switches off and back on again ok.
Does anyone know what's happening here? - Is it just low on resources, or is there actually a bug in the OS? - I was hoping this would be more reliable than a Windows based phone!
That animation means the phone has crashed. What you're doing (holding down the power button for 10 seconds) is the only way to recover from it.
Without knowing exactly what you have installed (or even removed) on the phone it is difficult to give an accurate diagnosis of what's wrong.
- Does the phone only do this when in standby mode?
- Have you added/deleted any preinstalled content?
- Have you changed the screensaver?
- How soon after going to standby does the phone crash?
this 10 seconds thing is just a soft reset cuz your phone just hanged!! i had this almost everyday when i didn't had any upgrade! after upgrading my phone it didn't happened again!! what i noticed is, that it happens mostly when you're using the keypad !!
My phone also crashes frequently 😞
Where did you get your upgrade? Did you buy your P800 in Switzerland?

no! it was imported from sweden! the one with the englisch software und swedish handbook!! and i upgraded it last week !! and it really works fine and i also got the german language too!!!

I just have the standard software installed, no changes to screensaver etc. It was definitely in standby mode at the time. I've got a UK phone, on Orange. I think it must have crashed after about 2 hours in standby mode.
I've installed eDom, but since removed it, but the first crash happened on the first day I had it and that was definitely before installing anything!
did it happen while you're using the keypad???
I've bought mine in Switzerland (German & French manuals only... we Italian speaker are always left alone). It never crashed by itself but I know a way to make it crash every time !!! Just run Frodo and load Last Ninja 2 ... screen darks out and the esclamation mark comes out. YEAHH ! (Last Ninja 1 works perfectly.. got to level 2 and I am waiting for the next release of Frodo to be able to press F2 to continue )
I have a friend whose P800 hangs just after the animation has finished, i.e. at the SE logo. Does anybody know a way of hard resetting the P800. - the 10 sec. power button soft resetting does not fix this.

I don't think there is a way to Hard Reset the P800 other than removing the battery when you have a problem with the phone. I used to do this with my 8250 and other Nokia phones. I think it should work with the P800 too. But I don't seem to have this problem anyway. I had my P800 for almost a month now and it is stable so far. I have installed some programs like games, utilities, screensavers but seems it's doing fine. Maybe it has something to do with the firmware, but not sure.
my phone just in her 2nd week, everytime after installing some software, the application screen shown blank(no listing of the software list) but others like message,contact etc are ok. Anyone encountered this? Mine is latest firmware r1d.
does the master reset can't do this???
Must be a software thing. I upgraded last Monday to the new R1G. The 10 sec thing still occurs. 3 times since last Monday.
i don't why but since upgrading, that 10 second thing only appeared once to me and while i'm using the keypad!! and when i had the old FW it only and always occured when i'm using the keypad!!

hmmm....another firmware upgrade, another problem. Mine is still R1B and I don't have this hunging up, crash, exclamation mark or rebooting situations. At least not yet. I got mine for a month now. I was even thinking of upgrading my P800 f/w when I go on leave. That makes me think more seriously whether to upgrade or not.
Nearly every time I install or uninstall app I have to reboot because it�s just showing blank and no apps at all. I stopped to create folders to arrange my apps in because mostly of the time when I have to reboot P800 all apps is just under "All". Think I have put it in rifgt folder for about 10 times but now gives up. Have R1D.
