The Nokia FINALLY gets v30 firmware

Well Rafe seems to not be too hopeful that the 5800 will receive any new homescreen type of features via a firmware update. i have my doubts as well. it would just be too good to be true. but the question is, how can nokia release a lower spec phone, 5530, which has a BETTER homescreen, and leave the 5800 out in the dark? its not like nokia would expect 5800 owners to switch to a device which lacks 3G and GPS. that's the target of the 5530.

so back to my question, what is nokia's intentions here? they surely could give the 5800 that new homescreen. the 5800 has sold enough units to warrant good support from nokia. its very popular from its sales numbers. so what is nokia's plan? or will they just release a 5800 successor? but that seems too far away still. if only nokia would communicate better.

Meanwhile in Canada, our update only just went to 21.2.025. I'll have long ago sold my 5800XM for lack of updates before the next update comes along.

my cameras loads better now ... clear and better as for ram it has helped increase some of it

something i found

Changes/Improvements/New features v21.0.02 to v30.0.11:

Standby screen:
*When Music Player is operating, and seeing the track name on the screen, and then when one song ends and goes to the next track, the speed at which this happens has improved yet again from 21.002, although the noticeable change is not as much as from 20.149 to 21.002.
Call log, Contacts and calling function:
*Calling speed (from standby screen to Contacts or Call Log) and transition to call/disconnected screens even faster than 21.002, is more than the instantaneous that I stated for the 21.002, it has improved yet again.
*New menu option in the in-call menu to Send MMS during phone call.
*Loudspeaker maximum volume has seemed to decreased
Maps:
*Maps startup is now almost instantaneous, speed through all the Maps menus very fast, even faster than Maps 2.0
*Switching to different views is very smooth and fast now, i.e. to Map 3D etc.
*Maps version 2.0 week 39 remains the same, although the Maps is able to be upgraded to Ovi Maps 3.01 flawlessly
Music Player:
*The biggest change is the equaliser improvements. There is a huge improvement in sound quality, even background sounds and other channels are more noticeable. The default equaliser settings are quite good. And bass is less crunchy than before.
*Split-second delays now do not exist when pressing the volume keys to change between volume levels. In the past, there was some degree of delay, even running multiple applications now, that behaviour has been improved remarkably.
*Freezes in the music player have not been evident to me yet in my days of usage with the new firmware. Which is a marked improvement in the functioning and stability of the music player. Screen tearing and slow speed for album art to appear is still present though.
Camera and Photos:
*Biggest change is the reappearance of use of the volume keys to zoom while taking photos/recording video
*Going into Details is faster than 21.002, almost instantaneous now
*Scrolling speed through thumbnails is only minimally jerky now, also scrolling through photos at 100% view has improved in speed so it is now very smooth and almost instantaneous
*When going into menus in Camera, the speed is instantaneous
Video centre:
*Logo has changed for the video centre in the menu
*Appearance of video menu is different and seems to have inherited the newer N-series/E-series style simplified logos
*Speed in the video centre is much improved and is almost instantaneous
*Changing between volume levels in RealPlayer is instantaneous, fast-forward/rewind speed and resume of playback after these functions is improved and almost instantaneous. Sound quality appears to have been improved also.
Search:
*Application has been upgraded from v4.08 to v4.10.0904
*Logo has changed and is now reminiscent of the newer N-series/E-series simplified styling
*Performance is faster and Yandex search service has been removed in favour of Live Search and Google (Note: this is for the APAC variant, will vary between different regions and specific countries)
Web:
*Rendering of webpages has improved in speed since 21.002
*Rotate Screen option speed is now almost instantaneous
*Speed in Web options menu is now instantaneous
*Loading of Minimap on side when scrolling down pages does not have pixelation anymore
Other:
*Overall system speed has been improved so it is somewhat faster than 21.002
*Scrolling in the Multimedia menu from one tab to another whilst multiple applications are running, has improved marginally in speed
*Overall stability seems to also have been improved, have not had one crash or freeze where I have had to remove the phone battery. The slight freezes that have occurred, the phone has recovered from flawlessly.

Agreed!! Nokia communicate! communicate! communicate! before many more people start leaving the ship. True friends are the only ones that will really stay loyal so talk to us and let us know what's happening at least and maybe you'll have friends for life.

the last firmware update was hardly rock solid. the video player exits if you recieve a text message and just yesterday it completely jammed up.

Just Uninstall Inzy TV (almost all of the cases) or some other application after which the box appears. The numbers will go away.

i guess all the speculation about the new features supposedly to come in the new firmware has raised the expectations of 5800 owners. myself included.

i guess we need to be realistic with our expectations.

homescreen email notification... wow.. that's really exciting.

but then again the fact that there have already been numerous firmware updates for the tube thus far means that nokia isn't ready to ditch the 5800 as yet.

on a separate note the X series that nokia registered, would it possible have something to do with XpressMusic?? or did anyone brought this up already?

Come on Nokia!! Pull your finger out!!

Got this phone when it first came out and its been nothing but a disappointment 😡

I am selling this piece of junk and getting the Android Samsung or the Palm Pre...

Wouldnt even consider the n97 either cos the software on thats probably got another 12 months of updates to get that up to scratch too....

Since the update, my phone started to restart whenever it chooses and I'm still mad that flash is still not working. I can't see anything advantageous coming with this update.

Actually for me there is at least one improvment.

Previously, when I visited one famous site the Nokia browser simply dissapeared until I figured out that I may disable the Java script to see the site.

After the upgrade this site works with the Java Script enabled, thoug still a bit slow.

i have v20 i it still says no update so is there any other way to check for updates ?
Thanks

A lot of people out there seem to be demanding a new phone from Nokia. I heard Mercedes have upgraded the diesel engines in the E Class since I bought mine, should I demand that my car gets an engine upgrade?

Anyway, the 5800xm is THE best phone for my needs without exception still and it just got better.

Mercedes wouldn't relase an engine that had broken gears or that kept backfiring either...

I had a look at *#0000# to see if there was any updates, and there was a version 30 from before which was the worst thing ever, the blinking light that comes on when you have a message, come on when i no messages, everything was so very slow, the web pages to load up would take a dogs age to load, looking at pictures took ages to load, anyway enough about the old version, what about the new v30.0.011 which is quite cool, there is alot of new stuff with it, which ive found. first the email icon on the main screen added to the homepage. internet is so much faster, the web pages come up so fast now, music player has a few new tweeks, downloading podcasts are faster to 15mb in 30sec using contract, maps works a treat now, contacts comes up very fast, idont have an issue with the power meter, as some have. in the menu you can One click now to get an app working it needed 2 clicks. just the whole update is great like a breath of fresh air, the 5800 is like a New phone to me now. thanks nokia 😉
