"Ex-Nokia User:" I don't even know why you bothered to post on this site; you claim that you're generally interested in mobile phone sites but your post suggests to me that you're just an Android fanboy out to take potshots at Nokia.

Also, your post suggests to me that you don't write very well in English.

That aside, since there is no such thing as a verifiable fact where it concerns comments posted on niche technology sites, you can't prove to any of us -- beyond any reasonable doubt -- that you ever had an N97 or that you even have an HTC Hero.

Hence, your comments don't carry much water. To be sure, everyone is entitled to an opinion but there IS such a thing as a VALID opinion and yours bears no such resemblance.

Indeed, your comments sound like a generic summary of Gizmodo's review of the N97. Who knows, maybe HTC paid you to write what you wrote? Worse, you could be an Apple fanboy out to brag about your iPhone's slick but ultimately useless GUI.

I'm SICK of Troll-ish comments such as those posted by users like "Ex-Nokia User" on Nokia sites purportedly for the purpose of getting Nokia to get its act together as though they're some form of public service.

Listen, we are talking about phones here -- not the cure to cancer, not the salvation of the environment and certainly not the solution to the American health care crisis. Yet, to read the reviews posted on Gizmodo, Engadget and other US-centric gadget sites, the sky MUST be falling because **gasp** people like the ex-Nokia user can't tell the difference between the UI of an N95 and that of an N97. Nokia is doomed!!!!!! Quick, time for the Nokia protocols to save Nokia from self-inflicted armageddon.

As President Obama said (quoting Christian scripture) during his inauguration, "the time has come to set aside childish things." Ranting and raving about money "blown" on a mobile phone and the relative merits of its replacement is in poor taste considering the still-precarious situation of the world economy.

This post was about new firmware for a phone which, if you are indeed telling the truth, you no longer have. Leave us "poor" N97 users alone to wallow in the misery of our clunky UI and go snuggle in bed with your Hero. Don't worry, we won't miss you. At all.

nice one ex-android user.

ive had my n97 about a month and halve, hacked it aswell, with the hac, u can make the UI feel like that of Iphone, with the fade in effects and crap like that, not updated it yet as im in england lol. cant wait for it tho.

nokia are doing a great job with there phones. they must have a plan. they were the first to do a 5MPX camera phone. God bless my wrecked N95-1, and started the war with the MPX and left the war to start a new one. a touch screen with a qwerty keyboard. i know SE has the experia, but thts not really a phone. it has MS windows on it which is more for computers and laptops.

So i reckon nokia have a plan with there phones. i will never go to another phone company.

Plus they prob gna start a war if they go into laptops aswell, thy wud b freakin nice to own tho.

gone off topic soz guys.

just cant wait for the update. hopefully the main update will get kenetic scrolling, tht wud b fun lol

Does this new firmware fix quality picture on TV, thumbnail photo browser, and thumbnail favorite contact. Have you tried to see video or photo on TV by using TV out cable?? If you compare to N95, you will see picture quality from N97 was terrible, and from N95 was very clear. And did you notice photo browser N97 and thumbnail foto for favorite contact?? it looks like you've taken pict from VGA camera. If nokia can not fix all these thing, I will sell my n97 and buy N95 again. I really disappointed and it's under my expectation to have N97.

I recently updated to firmware 12.0.024 and sadly the update has caused nothing but problems.
My previously stable N97 now reboots on a whim (with the disco light effect) from any application (even while just scrolling in the menu) and in general has gone backwards.

IMHO don't update yet - 12.0.024 introduces some nasties that will have you crying to downgrade again.

I bought the N97 as soon as it was released. After 1 month of tears and fighting with the device and losing my patience I sold it and bought an iPhone. Best decision I made in my life. Goodbye Nokia.

i updated mine no problems over the air ( *#0000# ) on the 26/08/09, mine was bought sim free from play.com and i use it on 02 network here in Uk

The phone is more stable and does run quicker in my opinion.

@Ex-Nokia User

I am leaving for Stuttgart for Nokia World. You may be disappointed with N97 for your own reasons but wait till you check out the N900 (based on Maimo Linux). It is simply awesome!

Hi,

I have a T-mobile UK phone and followed instructions on http://nokia.nigelcoldwell.co.uk/firmware.htm. Using the EURO1 0570817 product code. I tried NSU and it claimed to successfully update. After NSU shut down the phone did not restart. When I try and switch on the phone it vibrates, then the screen flashes a few times and that's it. PC suite and NSS don't see the phone.

Am rather miffed. Guess will have to swap the phone. Any advice?

Then read the rest of Nigel's page, about the not restarting, and about the three key reset for the N97.

Hi, I have a Vodafone UK N97 that is now De-branded and running fw v11.0.021.209.04
Can i get the updated fw by changing code, i have no warranty not worried about that.....does this newer fw include full kinetic scrolling ?

If anyone tried to update the Nokia Updater on windows 7 before installing this, run the updater in Vista or XP compatibility mode else it wont work
