Track my traveling progress?

Hi all, I live in the UK and am planning to travel across america soon 😃

I was wondering if anyone can recomend an application or online service I can use to post messages, videos and pictures with location details so people back home can track my progress, and so I can remember where I've been! 😛

I'll be taking my E71, or possible E72 if its out in time 😉

Heya

I'd have a different take on this angle, as I'd use something like Facebook. You can show your current Google Latitude location on your Facebook home page, and will be able to email pictures to the site too. Or you can send status updates.

There are plenty of places to host your images, but I find the Facebook mobile website handy enough to make notes on pictures and similar. Plus those people who I want to share images with are also on Facebook.

Gaaaa! Facebook is like a virus. You may be able to Twitter this too.

I've never found a free geotagging application that worked properly on my E71 so gave up with the idea...

The nice thing about the parts of America that I've been to is that WLAN is often freely available, or a token cost.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciate it! 😃

I have used Picasa in the past and noticed that it had the ability to store location data and plot photos on a map. I tried Shozu to be able to geotag my photos and upload to Picasa, but dont think the E71 is fully sported? It worked sometimes, now just wont geotag photos, and sometimes wont even start at all!

I also didnt like the way the photos were displayed on the album map in Picasa so started playing around with the API to make something of my own, but have stopped if I cannot upload photos to Picasa from my phone with location data 😞

I am now looking at Flickr as I am able to upload photos easily using the built in Share Online application, and using this combined with Nokias Location Tagger this has worked ok so far (although i think this is still in beta). Flickr also has an API so I might look at creating something of my own to map my photos the way I want to 😃 (i'll let u know how i get on!)

Thanks for the tips, I'll take a look at Facebook. I dont currently use it, I've tried to avoid it, but sounds like it could be worth looking at.

So I am able to show my current location on Facebook am I? Do i need any additional tools to do that? I don't suppose it gets saved in some way, in order to track progress or the routes I have taken?

One thing I havn't been able to do yet which I thought may be useful for something is the ability to copy your location to clipboard, eg Lat and Long data. Anyone know if this can be done?

Good luck with the coding!

Facebook is like a virus. I avoided it for as long as I could, until I figured out it's a great way to communicate with people that I kinda don't always want to talk to, or share pictures with people that live a long way away. It's been improved so that you can turn off notifications and similar so your email account doesn't get flooded out with near enough spam too.

To get your current location up, you need to run Google Latitude, then in Facebook, there are instructions to put your location up. It was really easy for me to do and I am nowhere close to being able to code, heh! 🙄

I'd use Nokia Sportstracker, and it's website for the tracking and the photo's, then probably use twitter for posting messages.

If not, turn geotagging on, then upload to Flickr, and post a comment on each photo.

Thanks Steve, I've heard a lot about Nokia Sports Tracker I'll add that to my list to check out 😃

I've also been looking at PhoneLocator as well which looks interesting.

I think what I would like overall is a website that would show my current location, and possibly locations or routes I've been, along with geotagged photos with the ability to display these on a map in the way I would like. So far it looks like I may use a combination Nokias Location Tagger to geotag photos, Share Online to upload to Flickr, PhoneLocator (or something similar) to provide scheduled updates of location and possibly track routes I've travelled, and a combination of the Flickr and Google Maps APIs to map the photos for me 😃

I'll let u know what the final outcome is 😃
