V2x can't come soon enough

Just answered a call on my N97... after the call was finished I couldn't hang up. The screen still showed Answer --> and <-- Unlock. 😮

After pressing the red end call button a few times I evetually went for the power button and got the white Nokia screen. Then it took 2 attempts at a restart to get the phone going again. 🙄

This is on v12 firmware. I haven't had this much trouble with basic functions on a phone since the early SonyEricsson P900.

(Sorry for the 'negativity' but I just had to vent my frustration)

Funny, v12 has been a lot better for me. Sure its not perfect, but its quite good. But I echo your thoughts, roll on version 20...

Mine was fine up until today. I can't remember the last time before this that a Nokia phone in my possession crashed during or after a call.

Let's hope it was just a one off.

...and when you've done his, you can bring your lens polishing scratch removal kit round to my yard...

Its the screen lock that really doing my head, up until a few days ago, it fine, one slide down to lock and one slide down to unlock, hey presto - worked like magic. Well, actually, it only worked like it was supposed to.

And here was me reading about these poor souls having trouble with their lock key and thought, that can't be,mine works fine.

The last few days, the lock key is totally out of control. Stays up late, answers back, doesn't do it chores around the house etc.

Have to press it at least twice, sometimes three, and occasionally, even more just to unlock the phone. How the phone hasn't been chucked out of the window, is only a testament to my saintly character. Otherwise, it'd be a goner.

I want v20 to have a feature whereby the acceleration sensors will detect if you're shaking the phone vigorously and violently--and hang up the current call**.

This will be an improvement over having to remove the battery to end a call.

This is SOOOOOO embarrassing---phone was ringing in my pocket, when I pulled it out, I accidentally did the answer call slide (big mistake!) so when the call was over I had to remove the battery to hang up. 😡

**it would be a good outlet for our aggression about having scratched lenses, frequent needs to reboot, GPS sync losses, too late turn-by-turn navigation, pixelated video zooms and no working e-book readers! 😉

I know how some of you are feeling now. Had to hard reset my phone a few days ago. Just got everything sorted on it now except I haven't got my MMS settings quite right yet. Fingers crossed it'll stay stable until v20 comes.

V2x is make or break for me. If it still isn't right then I will be looking at the N900, or even a different brand of phone all together. Symbian is really dead now IMO, its old and tired. My official upgrade is in March, so maybe something better will be on the horizon ...

Yes, I'm in the v2x is make or break camp as well. If it's not up to scratch after that, I'll get what I can for my N97 and move on. And it definitely won't be another Nokia (and especially one that has been recently released), once bitten, twice shy and all that.

I've got too much effort invested in the n97 what with all me websites to just abandon it. tempted though...

Can consolidate and start a new section for your new phone Dave.

I DO like Nokias way of doing things though. I swore I would never move away from them again (had T68i and V3i before) every time I do I don't like the phone. It won't be Motorola, LG or Samsung though. So that really leaves Apple (hahahahahahahaha) SE or HTC.

Nokia PC Suite is probably the best phone manager software out there IMO.

Well, sorry to be all negative again but I was listening to music on my N97 last night on the train home and suddenly there was silence. Aha! I thought, a text has arrived (often the S60 music player mutes to indicate a new message or a call)...

Nope.

Took it out of my jacket pocket and noticed the phone has switched itself off. Low battery?

Nope.

Switched it on again and a full battery indicator and it's continued running until this afternoon. 🙄

Saw this video posted on another forum, slightly exaggerated but closer to the truth that Nokia would like I feel:

oh Celios i love it !!!! thanks for posting the link 😃

During the one week that I have had my pos n97 it has restarted itself at least once a day. I figured I would wait until v20 gets released and see what happens. But after having the GPS issue ruin my road trip, I am now selling my n97. What a total piece of crap Nokia has built!!!

Oh and before you guys think that I am just being a major bitch by bitching around, let me tell you that I was one of the first people who had the N95 (the original one not the 8gb one) and honestly it didnt give me as much problems as the N97.

when I first got my 97 I was utterly disappointed. I can honestly say it was the worst phone ever. but after updating the firmware (after problematic debranding) I have to say it's not bad but definitely NOT worth the price tag. It certainly doesn't live up to the advertised model on tv. I'm afraid if v20 doesn't make it sing and dance smoothly like it should then nokia may never be taken seriously again. I certainly will be taking my cash elsewhere cos I hate false advertising and that's exactly what nokia have given us.

I'm trying to keep it short, whilst carrying out some shameless self promotion... And google does a grand job indexing AAS 😉

One of the first things I did (by accident) on my N97 was to swipe the homescreen and wonder where everything had disappeared to. When I found my shortcuts and friends' faces again I wondered why I couldn’t put stuff on the empty homescreen.

Is v20 going to include multiple homescreens or do us N97 owners have a secret (but not very secret) hiding place for our widgets?

This was mentioned in Dave’s wishlist thread (last updated a long time ago in a...), and after watching hours and hours of N900 videos it got me wondering again.

If there was a quick-icon for fingers crossed I would have put it here.

That video had me laughing out loud - brilliant.

I actually like owning the N97 now just because it's so rubbish - I know that sounds stupid but I bet there are no I-phone videos which are that funny!

:icon14:

Long live 500 lumps of useless plastic.

Guys...i have been using N 97 since 3 mnths now....well i really love the fone.....yes version 11 gave lot of hanging problem....but after version 12 ....no problem....well most people forget to format their fone after updating.....and u shld also format yr mass memory....then yr fone works fine....now waiting fr version 20.......then n 97 gonna rock even more......i l ove my N 97......

😃 You're not wrong!

I tell you someting, if I get version 1.2 on the same day as everyone else gets V2 it'll be really annoying! ha ha ha

It's worrying that the only enhancements shown in v2 videos are kinetic
scrolling and album art. Granted there'll be more memory for running apps
and probably some kind of voip, but there are so many areas that should
be overhauled or fixed which have had no mention, e.g. email client, multiple
desktops, theme effects, performance, browser, FM transitter power,
photo/video gallery, video codecs, photo gps tagging, bug fixes(!), etc.

I'm assuming the worst so I won't be disappointed.
