Manually updating firmware?

5 replies · 2,425 views · Started 11 March 2003

Did a search, came up with nothing. Is it possible anyhow to manually update the 7650 firmware? I have IR, and I think I can get a cable if required. I've got 3.12 and the Bluetooth System Error bug, and its really bothering me.

aalaap, if you have a bug which will be fixed by a newer version of the f/w, the NSC will upgrade you for nothing (the phone will still be under warranty). You can also mention the memory full bug, which blocks the phone on 3.12

Upgrading f/w sounds like the sort of thing best left to professionals - if something goes wrong, you're totally screwed (NSCs will not want to know)

BTW, where would you plug in that cable you mentioned?

there is a little socket below the camera inside the casing. there is a special seperating tool which needs to bo used. search the profile for the datacable and seperating tool

The 7650 requires a special tool to open the handset in order to attach the datacable. There are a few cables on the market, such as these.

Getting these cables in India is, surprisingly, quite easy. They don't even cost too much.

Update: I went to an NSC and asked them about upgrading - they said it would cost me INR 75 ($1.57), but if something goes wrong and the software gets corrupt in the process, I'll have to pay INR 675. ($15).

I'll wait for sometime, as I dont need to use BT. I just wanted to see if there was an easy fix. Which doesn't seem to be the case, so too bad. Its alright. I still have IR.

You can also open the casing with two small screwdrivers. I don't recommend it though. It's very easy to ruin the phone that way. Better buy the tools if you want to do it manually and also earn some my money updating other phones...
