N97 stuck on v11 firmware? Try for v12 now

26 replies · 7,625 views · Started 28 September 2009

If your SIM-free Nokia N97 has been 'stuck' on v11 for ages, try your 'Sw Update' application again today. People are reporting that v12.0.026 is now available as a 700k over-the-air update. And no, we've no idea what took Nokia so long either.... All data should be preserved, but an extra backup can't do any harm, just in case.

Read on in the full article.

Some people with the same UK black product code are reporting that it's not available by FOTA but is available using the ovi suite beta updater or NSU. That is very weird!

For me it was only available by FOTA which made a pleasant change!

You'll be lucky to ever get that update on a three branded phone!

They are usually very very very slow (or don't bother) to release a phones second or third updates. Three don't like to invest the time in approving what they consider to be minor updates.

FOTA succeeded on simlock free UK N97 with product code: 0585162, Dutch t-mobile network.

I wonder if it will be available for me before v2.0 is released.
Maybe I don't care anymore and just hope more and more for that 2.0!

Have to remove by battery almost daily ;(

I did it FOTA, then restored settings from a mem card backup to get the wifi and BT stuff back.

NOTE you'll need to manually change the message storage setting back to "mass storage" as it will default back to C:. Really annoying is that.

WiFi has disappeared from my Black N97 now.

I can't find any way of getting it back either, as i don't have a backup to restore.

Stuck now. What do i do?

(i updated using *#0000#)

Same thing happend to me, I had to do a hard reset to get wifi back.

Bit a a pain.

My N97 is running v 11.0.021 with a custom version 11.0.021.213.02. If I do *#0000# the handset tells me there are no available updates. If I use Ovi it tells there are updates available to 12.0.026 yet after I press "update" it tells me the software update failed (citing lots of reasons including failing to connect to the internet.

The internet connection is good; having tried both wired and wireless connections on two seperatre machines.

Got the update on N97 RM 505 offline model in black uk. Cant say I have noticed any difference other then the lose of wifi. Hard reset will sort that I know, not that I actually used it..

I'm having the same problem as the guy below it says that either my connection is slow (which it isn't) or that my firewall is blocking it. I just updated my wifes n96 fine .Oh and I also tried turning the firewall off but still didnt help. ANY IDEAS??????

hard reset yout N97. It solved the problem for me. Ehhh.. Better make a back of all the important stop. User data on drive c: is not preserved.

Warning to owners of white UK unbranded N97s: definitely do a backup of settings before upgrading from v11 to v12!!!

Having spent 500 on an unbranded N97, I did not expect owners of subsidised branded phones to be getting their firmware updates weeks before me.

Then, when *FINALLY* the FOTA update arrives, I was expecting something that actually solved a few problems, rather than creating more of its own!

I may well calm down over the next few days but I am VERY lucky I bothered doing a backup of my settings as the FOTA for the white UK unbranded N97 kindly removed all of my destinations and would not allow me to add any back, either manually or using the SetupWizard (which claimed it had run successfully but had in fact done absolutely bugger all except eat battery life).

I was told in an email from Nokia a week or so ago that the reason for the delay was to allow testing to make sure the update was compatible with the UK variant.

Just how much testing did they really do?

Glad I bothered to backup settings as in past experience (N95), restoring settings quite often used to cause compatibility issues so I tended not to...

i had the same problem yesterday with a white UK sim free updating to v12.
it wipes all destinations and i could not re-add them, also it removes wilan wizard app, so to sum it up basicly it just fked everything up, a less tech savy person will have no idea what to do to repair there device.
i just spent half the night resetting my phone again and installing everything, also add to reload all my music from nokia store b/c a format wipes all my drm, also had to install 25 n-gage games and activate them as i lost drm for them too.
oh before i did all that i tried restoring a back up i made but it was a big fail as it was corrupted lol
NOKIA really needs to pull tthe update for white UK sim free with code 0587240 and save people a nightmare who have no clue with tech

The Vodafone update has been pulled of NSU this morning, stating that the operator may not have yet approved it.🙄

My code 0587246 is still not ready for v12... 😞
The Netherlands simlock-free.

Awaiting voor the big firmware update Thank you Nokia.
The 12 is not running yet.
But awaiting for the 2.0 could be the advice!!

updated mine yesterday tru wifi, i'm not sure which product code was my N97. But i bought it in Malaysia, no problems yet, the wifi is there, my data are all there.

I wish they could just release the software to get this sorted out!! Three is very frustrating!!
