I was advised by Nokia to anyhow get my phone flashed by a Care Point as this update would do different things to your phone than the regular NSU update. And they were pretty sure it would fix the GPS issue and give some more improvements.
Though being a sceptic, I followed instructions just for the reason that if I wouldn't do it, Nokia would probably not support me in other ways.
I had the phone flashed to v12 yesterday and I launched Maps and McDrive to see whether it worked better. One thing that I immediately noticed is that the phone now seems to have more RAM available for running applications. Normally my phone would show some 30Mb free when nothing is running, this went up to 50Mb.
Regarding GPS fix, it indeed seems to keep the lock better than before. Normally I would see the fix drop every now and then and after a half hour drive, it did not drop at all. So my feeling tells me that it might actually be a driver problem or something similar. This gives me a good feeling. I did notice though that the location is still 'jumpy' when I am not moving. When I am on a constant speed (using cruise control) on, let's say, 100km/h, Maps shows speeds varying between 90 and 105 km/h. Also positioning is not really accurate sometimes, where I already passed an exit for 100meters where on the navigation I still have to pass it.
Conclusion: maybe having the phone flashed by a Care Point is not such a bad idea. The GPS fix seems a lot more stable, though it is not as accurate as my old N95 8Gb. I also see improvement in free RAM.
So when we keep this up, all should work like a charm on V20!!
