Hi
just took my phone to carphone warehouse, for following problems
- GPS far too inaccurate
- Camera lens slider is completely loose, open when i tilt phone!
- Silver paint already come off in 3 places on rim around keyboard
- back cover does not fit properly
i've been told that with all these probs its more than likely to be sent to Nokia, could take from 2 -4 weeks!
has anyone taken their N97 to CPW? how long before you got phone back? was it repaired or just a replacement sent?
do you think its worth ringing nokia and telling them i want a replacement asap, not waiting 4 weeks!
ANGRY 😡

I did when i sent mine back for the first time. it got sent to nokia, CPW didn't/couldn't fix it.
15 days from sending off to getting it back (they didn't fix it though).
This time i've sent it to the freepost (recorded delivery though, i'm not chancing freepost on my 500 phone) Nokia address. They told me on the phone that it will be a maximum of 2 weeks.
i just managed to get through to Nokia's 'track and trace' people, they said it will be max of 14 days.....
we'll see, i'm not expecting it to come back fixed from what else i've read on the net
but i will keep sending it back until its sorted, or i get a new handset.
is there any number to use to complain to nokia? would really like to shout at someone
0845 0455555 are useless

As long as you get proof of posting, the Freepost service has full insurance cover (provided by Nokia themselves, not Royal Mail)

CPW are useless really, take ages to sort any problem.
Send to Nokia directly if you wanna get it done right and quick.
I sent my n97 on the 1st of september and got it back on the 21st,i complained that the camera lens was scratched, the gps did not work, the screen did not respond at all.
When i got it back all the issues were sorted out,i am finally happy with my n97,ive got a unbranded one and i'm still on v11,does anyoen know when v20 is out.
I may have to concede defeat now on my N97. I've looked today and the lens is starting to scratch itself, and yesterday it would lose it's GPS lock every few seconds. The camera lens isn't badly scratched, photos are perfectly fine, but I know now it's only going to get worse. The GPS locking problem isn't an issue when I'm using AccuWeather or Gravity, where it just needs one lock to get your co-ordinates, but it is if I'm trying to navigate somewhere with Ovi Maps.
When I get my N95 back from my girlfriend (who's using it temporarily while her phone is being fixed - its a C905), I'll give the Nokia Care Point in Stockport a call to get mine fixed.
Will an official Nokia Care Point have to send off the phone too, or will they be able to order the part in and then fit it there at the store?
just to be clear i called nokia, told them about the problems i had with the n97, and they told me to go to the nearest nokia service centre, which is a Carphone warehouse.
the guys at CFW were quite certain that the handset needed to go to nokia to be sorted and were going to do just that.
is there a process whereby i could have sent the phone myself directly to nokia? they never gave me this option
i've got to say, nokia customer service really is a joke, they really don't seem to care, amazing that they are so indifferent even when you've spent 500 buying a premium product during a world recession, other companies are dying on their feet to treat customers well and to maintain their income, these guys think the world owes them a living.
😡
Nokia were insistent with me that the service centres should change my charger under warranty. The service centres both refused.
Nokia were insistent with me that the service centres should fix my GPS under warranty.
One service centre refused advising to send back to Nokia (CPW), the other did a factory reset and told me it was fixed. They said they had upgraded to the latest FW version. Checked it afterwards. Exactly the same.
That's Carphone Warehouse at the Fort (Birmingham), and the second was Phonebox Communications in Solihull.
Well I finally decided to send my N97 in to NokiaUSA's repair center in Huntsville, Alabama.
The key information to prompt this action was the revelation that the GPS issue is hardware-related and Nokia finally admitted the lack of shielding is the problem.
Timing-wise....they might just do the v20 update for me since I'll be putting it in the mail the same day as the US v20 rollout (per the "leaked" schedule).
Side note...after the last firmware update, my OfficeSuite would not take my registration code on the reinstall making me have to go back to Mobisystems to get another code. I had just done that when the v20 firmware update was announced.
I hope that my old Nokia 9300 will hold up for the 7-10 days that the repair center promises (?) to repair my N97.
I phoned nokia's 'track and trace' number today, they have my phone in their 'hub' - whatever that means.
So, gave it to CPW on Thurs 8th, nokia got it on Monday 12th, they are saying it will take 5-7 days.
we'll see.......
i will be impressed if i get it back in a week or so, and i'll be really impressed if they have actually fixed the problems!

Seems your working on the same dates as me.
Sent mine in post on Thursday.
Just phoned up now to check, it's arrived today apparently.
After i'd give him my IMEI, he got the details up on the screen and said "you've sent it here before haven't you".
"It will be 5-7 working days, usually" apparently. Add another 2 days for posting back, and another 4 for how long it took to get there, adds up to nearly 14 days.
I hope it's fixed this time...
Why do people keep going back to Carphone Warehouse when it's been clinically proved that that they're UTTERLY INCOMPETENT??
And slow at everything. Just find a proper Nokia Care Point, a local service centre that ONLY repairs phones and doesn't try and make its living selling things.

Because for some people, their nearest NCP of any sort, is usually a CPW, and the next nearest is 20 miles or more away.
Thats why i sent mine to the Freepost Nokia address instead of CPW.
Although i found out that it's the same place CPW send the phone if it can't be fixed in store.
My nearest is CPW too, only 2 miles away. But I choose to drive 20 miles each way because I get to have it repaired while I wait (usually possible, though you might need to book parts/appointment ahead of time)

Would love to do that Steve... except I've never been able to get this Nokia link to work:-
http://www.nokia.co.uk/home/find-a-store/store-locator
Is it just me?
Hmm, just tried the link and it worked for me.
Looks like I'd also have to drive 20 miles either way to find the nearest one to me , when back in the UK.
Nokia never gave me the option to return the phone directly to them, despite my complaints about difficulty getting through to CPW on the phone.
Are the service centres actual Nokia shops? when i try finding the nearest repair point it just comes up with shops that seem to do repairs, no specific nokia repair shop
am i being thick?:dontknow:

Using that link that Ian posted, the service centre's nearest to me ( in the UK ) did NOT seem to Nokia shops, but 'independant' repair shops, going on the name of the shop?

Thanks nottmbantam.
It would appear that the Nokia site doesn't like my Firefox 3.5.3 browser and had problems with Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18813 until I used Compatability View.
Just found that I have a Nokia Repair Centre a few miles away (2 in fact).

My 2 also appear to be "independent" repair shops as well, again, judging by the names.
just called the track and trace people, my phone has left the repair centre and is now back in the 'hub', so may be back at CPW tomorrow or Monday.
It spent 3 days at the repair centre, they better have sorted it!

I've just phoned up also. Mine was sent out today and should be delivered on Monday.
Mine arrived at repair place on Monday, so it's been alot quicker than the first time when i sent it off for repair through CPW.
Or maybe they're just hurrying up repairs as not to piss too many people off.
I asked if it needed somebody to sign for it once it was delivered. Apparently not, it's only posted out as first class delivery.
I was expecting recorded delivery at least!
My repair point for NokiaUSA is provided by a 3rd party: Palco Telecom Services, Inc. out of Huntsville, Alabama.
Sent via Express Priority mail on Tuesday, Thursday their repairstatus website acknowledged receipt and says repair in progress.
Will report back on how long it takes to fix (GPS + lens scratches).
to be honest i'd be VERY reluctant at the moment to send ANYTHING off in the UK at the moment for repair as we are having mega problems with our postal service at the moment and I can bet you bottom dollar CPW only use royal mail to send their phones back to the Nokia Service Centres. 😞
NokiaUSA repair status website said my original unit is repaired and has been shipped. UPS tracking says it will come Tuesday (why is 2nd day air defined as 2nd business day air? which equals 4 days over a weekend?).
My BH-905 noise-cancelling headphones have also shipped and are due to arrive two days later?
My rationale in ordering these expensive BT headphones? Well, if the N97 can't be counted on as a GPS or camera, then I should at least count on it as an MP3 player, right?
Fingers crossed expecting the repairs (GPS & lens) to have "taken" and be permanent.

Phone arrived Monday night.
They've exchanged my handset.
GPS now works as it should do.
Camera Lens is not scratched (but i can see it's not a new one so it will scratch again in no time!)
And the back cover is now a tight fit on the unlock slider side of the phone. But it's now loose on the opposite side of the phone.
The back cover i can put up with, and the camera is ok for now. So i'm abit happier at the moment.
You are very lucky. My phone is currently in no-mans land between nokia and cpw. If anyone has to send their phone I STRONGLY urge you to send it direct to nokia, cpw service and unwillingness to help has truly astonished me. If I had sent it direct to nokia I would have it back days ago. There is a company worse than nokia, its cpw
yeah mate 3rd party middle man , cpw , p4u , mobiles direct etc etc allways do good deals on the best handsets but ive found them a nightmare to deal with
saying that nokia arent exactly good either are they lol
good luck with all the repairs everyone
make sure you keep the thread updated 😊
