Received my phone back from NokiaUSA repair center.
Turnaround time...7 days...mailed it on a Tuesday, got it back the next Tuesday.
Repairs done:
Software upgrade and phone reset (v12 and full reset to original factory distribution including the junkware and guitar hero!).
B-Cover assy (note said "Mechanics - functional failures caused by mechanical defects e.g. hinge, flip, slide, SIM gate"😉.
Camera Assy
Shield Frame cushion (they called this a "cosmetic replacement"!)
Lens cover clears with no apparent rubbing.
GPS worked/tracked fairly well on a 5 mile drive...5-8 satellites.
So far, so good. I'm tempted to wait for v20 before reinstalling all of my software.
Just a quick update on my attempts to get these problems sorted out:
I've booked in with the Fone Shop in Stockport and they'll let me know when the parts come in stock, which should be by this time next week. I had the AAS news article about what to get replaced in front of me so I knew exactly what to ask for 😊 As soon as they call, I'm going over in the hopes that they can just repair it for me within a couple of hours, like someone else on here reported.
Thing is, I'm going away mid/late next week so I hope the parts come in quickly!
Oh, and they asked what colour my phone is, and I told him it was the black one. But this got me thinking, how weird would the N97 look if it had a black front, a black back cover, but a white rear chassis? 😃

-GPS is still inaccurate, nothing done to it
-they are saying that my lens cover is not covered by warranty! all i did was open it normally and the spring thing inside failed and is now loose
- same back cover
-nothing done re peeling silver paint on the sides
thank you Nokia, you numpties, and to top it off my phone has come back with a deep stratch down the lens cover, which wasn't there when i sent it!
i am so pi$$ed off
i called nokia 'care', they are supposedly getting someone from repairs to call me, still waiting......
can anyone give me any advice on what to do next? is there a phone number i can ring other than the stupid customer care number, they really don't care and do nothing

Sounds like it might be worth contacting your local Citizen's Advice Bureau, and start sending formal (recorded delivery) letters to Nokia Care about the matter.
Peeling paint and the lens cover are obvious physical defects that they should be able to fix.
Nokia are really shooting themselves in the foot with this kind of behaviour - one of the 'strong' points of a Nokia phone is supposed to be the warranty 🙄

Sue the buggers. Small Claims Court is both easy and cheap.

Update
After much shouting at Nokia and my persistence, Nokia have agreed to send me a replacement handset, which is going to be delivered tomorrow. Some chap will come to the door and swap my current handset for a new one.
They only had white ones, but i won't be bothered so long as it works!
Has anyone else had theirs replaced in the UK? is there any chance I will get one which a EURO code? I don't suppose there is any chance v20 will be preinstalled.....
so for all of you out there with problems, stay on the case and Nokia will eventually buckle
