Review V20 here!
V20 is here - But is it any good
Things I have noticed so far
Bad things
1. No satelite status in the Location Application
2. The UI look very ugly(to me) when a line is halfed by the end of the display
3. Only one new widget - Vlingo
Good things
1. 53MB free RAM after reboot (On v12 it was arround 43MB)
Thats it for now ..
p.s. I have updated mine via Ovi suite 2.0.0.10 and Windows 7 64bit
The Windows was not able to find one of the many drivers, but still the update was successfull
They have fixed two of my pet hates...
on v12 the task list you get when you hold the menu button down would take two taps to select the items for the first 10 seconds or so. This is not as it should be and now the options only take a single tap.
also, when the phone was locked and the LCD + backlight is off, opening the phone it used to take a while to reactivate the backlight - the screen rotated quickly, but the backlighting seemed to lag behind. Now when I open the phone, it seems much quicker and the screen is lit almost straight away.
No improvement in my c drive :frown:
Just had to phone orange, had to type in a couple of letters from my password, clicked on the dialler - still no letters !! :con?
Everything else .......... fabulous 😃

I think AFTER you flash, you should format both of your drive, starting with mass memory.
iv heard ppl on howard forums that theres now letters on the dial pad? Iv done a format and still get only numbers on dial pad, my n97 uses euro 1 product code, any help guys? Ta
see my posting above biggy, i've done a 7370 reset, and format, still no letters on my dialler :frown:

Like some others, I'm stuck on loading music and podcasts.
Photo's take awhile for initial thumbnail cache. Left it for about 10 mins.
No new themes!
Only noticed one new icon for text reader.

Odd... I wonder how they could miss these types of things...AGAIN, after all the wait and time and testing...omfg...
This is no Jesus update. All they seem to have done is add kinetic scrolling (which is actually a painfully sluggish attempt at that), and sorted the music player out.
Oh, the only useful bit is a long keypress on the keyboard now brings up the numbers instead of having to use the blue shift key.
V30 please.......🙄
Scrolling in ovi store is impossible, it just opens the first thing you click on when you try to scroll down

Ditto.
Had to open QWERTY keypad to use Ovi store.

How do they miss this stuff in testing? :con?🙄

No problems here. Make sure you have the latest OVI Store app installed.

I am going to try a hard reset now anyway, and i thought ovi store was preinstalled?

it is - but when i accessed it they advised an update 😊
ok hard reset, there is no ngage client installed, on n97 fanatics it said it was preinstalled

Funny ....I 've got a silver one lol😉😉
What's the new facebook app like?
BanziBarn wrote:What's the new facebook app like?
the answer to that question Banzai is - what new facebook app 😡
i got all excited when it asked me to update facebook ..... no change .... wtf !!!
You're joking?!!! That was one of my most wanted features. Rubbish with a a capital R, and a capital "ish"!
aha the penny has dropped, oggy?
Maybe hard reset was not a good idea, the update to ovi has fixed the scrolling but ive no facebook, weather, ngage and updated maps program. i thought they were preinstalled,in fact the only widget is vlingo. At least nokia messaging is installed
I think I can say that for me v20 is not the 'Jesus' firmware I was hoping for.
So far I have come across the Ovi bug, but far worse is the Music player bug:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/f/109/
One new widget, no updates to existing widgets, no sign of VOIP/Skype and the web browser still doesn't allow you to move around a page when it's loading half the time.
This firmware (with working Ovi and Music player) is what the N97 should have shipped with.
the upside to todays activities is that my husband has given up, realised i'm not going to get my bottom to the kitchen, and has ordered a take away.
i think he'll be picking himself up a dvd at the same time 😃

Well done! 😃
So where's the voip support we were supposed to be getting?
ok guys, quick question regarding debranding to get v20. If i do it i know it invalidates the warranty witth VF but....if it ever needed repair surely i could just change it back and VF would probably not notice....? Any thoughts? Debranding tonight dependant on what you guys think. Want V20 badly!

Let me answer this question by telling you something that I found out when I phoned up my nearest Nokia Service Point to book in for my N97's lens and GPS to be sorted out. The fellah took some details, including my IMEI number. When he put it on his computer, probably to confirm that my N97 was an unbranded UK model, he was able to tell me that I'd updated to v12 using NSU.
I'd imagine whomever VF send their phones off to to be repaired, Nokia I'd imagine, could learn the same thing and determine from this that you've changed your product code at one point and invalidated the warranty.
This is the only reason why I'm not changing my product number. I want my warranty to be valid in case anything goes wrong.
