Hi guys, Skype today released the official client for symbian devices S60v3 and S60v5. Yes it works on N97, 5800 etc. It can be downloaded from your mobile browser - www.skype.com/m or link for S60v5 here and link for S60v3 here

Hi folks,

I was trying in vain to get my hands on this v1, and as my phone model is a E75, the link http://skype.com/m tells me

Sorry, Skype is unavailable for your mobile. We add new handsets all the time so check back soon. (...)

Well, that is not making me very happy, since I have been having the beta on my 'non supported' E75, and it worked perfect!!

On top I have been giving feedback as I never did before, so I wanna have this update!

Is there anyone who would be as kind as to mirror the sis file for S60v3 fp2

If you have one of these models, you could help me (and others):

Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 devices are

* Nokia N96
* Nokia N85
* Nokia 5320
* Nokia 6210 Navigator
* Nokia 6210 Classic
* Nokia N78
* Nokia N79

Or is anyone smarter than me finding out the direct link for the sis file ???

I would be very gratefull indeed 😊

Good call, thanks for letting everyone know! Lots of people are gonna be happy with this. Me, I'm not too bothered as I have skype on my landline phone, but it still might come in useful.

Downloaded and working fine so far on my N97 but phone crashing as not gone yet even after 2.1 😡

Hi klickflip

I noticed same with a Nokia 5230. Despite it is fully compatible, the download page simply doesn't allow you to download it. I have transferred the installation file from my N97 to 5230 and it works fine. I have Skype v1.0.0.3 files for S60v5 and S60v3 fp1 (if somebody needs it). Sorry, I do not own S60v3 fp2 device. Hopefully somebody does and will post it. Btw guys at Skype did decent work. It is just version one but far away from Fring or Nimbuzz.

Downloaded it last night as soon as I saw the original post, and had it up and running, looks quite nice IMHO, and a quick test seemed to function ok. I was using it over Edge though, didn't have 3G and it seems a bit of a hassle to cahnge the connection over to wi-fi, or am I missing something?

I use Skype on the laptop a lot, to ring landlines back in the UK, so have my Skype credit now available on the N97, so quite pleased with it.

Does it offer video calling - again, coudn't see this on my connection ,but I suspect I have to be on 3G or wifi to get video calling?

Pleased to have it at last.

I sent a text to a friend in the UK, who has s Samsung i8910, and he tried the d/l but again was told it's not compatable with his phone, so am going to try sending him the sis file to see if he can install it that way.

cheers

I asked that in the forums of the beta, this is the reply I got there from VadimR from Skype:

VadimR wrote:On sign in/new account screen , or on main screen view (after signing in),
press Options - > Choose connection.
This will enable you to change your current connection.

It didn't have it in beta, and neither would be implemented in the V1 if I remember correctly. I read a review yesterday, which confirms this. Too bad, it would be a lot of fun in a new program release.

Thanks anyways, Mato3113. Too bad... 🙄 where's my chance to install this one

Hi klickflip

I just added direct download links to the first post, if you still need it please download it from there. It seems that there is just one installation file for both S60v3 fp1 & fp2.

Absolutely wonderful! I really appreciate the effort, man!

And good info too on the fp1 and fp2 stuff.
Let's see... :tongue:

[EDIT]

Seems to be all okay! Yay!
