If I were to make available a home made CD containing all the available programs for the 9210 (and 9210i), plus backgrounds, skins etc. etc. (what else?) would anyone be interested in buying one. I'd basically charge costs + a small handling fee for my time. e.g. around 10

Seems likke a very cool idea
But I think there may be copyright issues and the likes to take into VERY big consideration
It has to be carefully selected
But of course all the Graphics are free and so.
I could be good....Indeed
Specially for those not haveing the nose into the scene, downloading new versions every other day and so on.
Just buy a "ER6 greatest 2002" and you are almost home safe...Neat
Excellent Rafe...
I'd be a customer!
Maybe this could be a poll question?
You could go one better, and email all the software owners of the apps you'd like to see on the CD and ask them to pay you a small fee to include them ( as do the yellow pages, scoot, most PC magazines etc )
after seeing the forum they would know sales would improve, this would allow you to charge a smaller fee for the CD, but be bringing home more $$$$$
I think a tenner would put most people off, when chances are they will only use about 20% of the software and can download it free anyway..
Superb idea though.
i dont think i would pay for it...most of the stuff can be downloaded for free. Also the software on the CD would become a CD with outdated software versions in a matter of days. & plus 10pounds, converted into rupees is almost rupees 700. i can buy a good software this money or have a good night out with a few friends.
i dont think i'd be interested.
thanks anyways.....im sure many people would appreciate this though.
carry on with it, if its worth it.
ciao

While I believe that there is an argument about much of the software being on line, the convenience of having a central point for the Multimedia would be nice (backdrops, NIMs, Real Media etc).
There's nothing I hate more than spending time downloading some hefty MultiMedia (I only have a modem y'know) only to find I don't like it!
Thanks for all the feedback. At the moment it is still really an idea lurking at the back of my mind!
Just so things are clear - obviosuly at that price it would be just be trial copies of the software (and freeware if available). As someone said I would have to consider copyright and make sure I had permission.
Its more intended to save download time than anything else, and get access to lots of graphics etc. i.e. its more a CD for convienience rather than anything else.
As someone else said it is slightly redundant in the internet age. Once I have a bit more time I'll run a poll.
Get developers to pay for inclusion would be nice, but to be honest most wont bother and anything not included reduces the benefits of the CD. Its not really intended to make me money, but be a service. Looking at things like worldwide post + packaging + CD + Jewell Case + printing thats about 4-5 there and thats without considering time, download and overhead costs.
Anyway thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

I totally agree... it's real pain in the ass to download huge multimedia files... so its great to have loads of .nims in it... or any other multimedia stuff..
