Ovi Maps hits 3.4 - though in beta form

I just downloaded 3.04 (3.4?) onto my N97.
I didnt remove 3.3 first, I just clicked on the download button, it asked me if I wanted to use Ovi Suite (I have version 2.1.0.87). I clicked on Yes and away it went.
I now have 3.4 on my N97 and C memory changed by less than 1M.
It remembered my favourites - though they are already stored on "My Nokia."

Simple and painless, with an N97, seems hard to believe, but true.

Tomorrow I shall see if it can take me on a journey!

Cheers

Will they support FP1 devices now? Or will it be the same as with 3.03, "keep an eye on the site, we will support it later" 😉

yeah right

Anyone had any problems when this is installed? - My Nokia bluetooth headphones stopped working and the phone locked up with keylock when using PC suite. Uninstalled it and no problems.

''Compatibility hasn't been widened (yet), it still only works with the same dozen or so S60 3rd Edition FP2 and 5th Edition phones originally quoted, i.e. E52, E55, E72, 6710 Navigator, 6730 Classic and X6, N97 Mini, N97 (v2.xxx onwards*), 5230, 5800 XM (v3.1xxx onwards*)''

Why hasn't compatibility been widened yet?! It's been almost 6 weeks since the announcement. How lazy are Nokia that they can only be bothered to release free navigation Ovi Maps for the above models and not for others. How hard can it be to release Ovi Maps for N95, N95 8GB, N96, N85, N86???

This is what i hate about Nokia. It's the same attitude us consumers get from Nokia when it comes to new FW updates - some get it, some don't!

Installs fine on my 5230, but crashes the whole OS when it starts to navigate anywhere, not tremendously useful. That was with with other apps (gravity, nimbuzz) running, then later with nothing else running. Next step may have to be full phone reset, or back to 3.03... :frown:

Sigh. Same thing. Give me some credit. One of the idiosyncrasies of Symbian OS. You'll get used to it.

"Can I delete v3.3 after installing the new version?"

No, you'd have to do what I did and delete it FIRST.

Hi.
Using the Application Manager of my Nokia 5800 XM I found installed:

Nokia Maps 9 MB Ver. 3.03 (246) Memory in use C: Phone Memory;

Ovi Maps 7 MB Ver. 3.03 (246) Memory in use D: Phone Memory

Not clear to me why C: and D: have the same name Phone Memory and why Nokia Maps are on different place than Ovi Maps.

Using my Y-Browser I found the following information:
C: Size 88.1 MB; Free 56.2 MB; Used 31.9 MB This is the Phone Memory;
D: Size 45.12 MB; Free 45.1 MB; Used 0.018 MB Is this Phone Memory? RAM?
E: Size 7.78 GB; Free 6.68 GB; Used 1.1 GB My external memory card
Z: Size, free and used are 0 kb (Protected ROM drive)

My questions:
Are really Ovi maps on D:?
Why Y-Browser cannot see this?
How I should proceed with the uninstall Ovi maps 3.3 and install the 3.4 ver.?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Went back to v3.03, all running fine even with other apps running in the background. Guess that's why its stil in Beta. Will ave to wait unti the full release that presumably will work properly on 5230?!?

uninstall BOTH Nokia Maps and Ovi Maps, then install the 3.4 beta.

Z is the firmware and is write-protected. D is a temporary disk that doesn't seem to get used much by apps. 8-)

seems like nokia just covering up their mistake with this another update. now when searching for my position,it shows my position within 1.5 mile away from where i am. ya its faster then before but still takes long to find exact position. thats why the sat bar is gone so you think its working better then before. checked my gps signal when it first finds my positon and its around 800-900 ft accuracy. no wonder it shows like 1.5 miles away from where i am. then goes normal(which still alot) to 50 to 350 ft. gonna wait another month when my warrenty ends then mod the dam antenna.
