Because:
1 IR is so slow
2 IR needs line of sight
3 it needs to be near the receiver
4 its old technology
5 does not work with bemused
6 Remote60 does not work good with IR
7 its soooooo slooooow
As a new user of both the 7650 and Bluetooth I think its actually the dogs dooglies (well bluetooth isnt as good as wireless!)
For File Transfer if its to PC get PCFilemanager from Epochware seemed to do the trick for me...

Anyone want to buy a 8310 or a casio E125 😊
thanks for trying to help but i shuldnt have to do all this messing about just to send pics and stuff its a brand new adapter and it aint as good as a i r port as far as i can see i mean u say infa red red is slow but ive never seen that myself from using my friends i just cannot see the big advantages of blooth tooth and think its just a big gimmic and no different from infa red but just alot more diffilcult to use
Bluetooth is brilliant, you don't even need to take it out your pocket to install stuff or transfer anything. Just sit down and it appears on your computer then right click a file and "send to Nokia".
Use bluetooth for a little while and you'll soon see why it's better.
Use NokiaSuite or PC ilemanager from Epochware and you'll soon be transfering images to and from your phone without even having to walk across the room and getting it out your pocket!
Try that with IR..
Also IR is slowwwwwwww
Also if you REALLY want to send from the phone to the PC from the phone itself there are guides on here of how to set that up, personally I would not bother - just use NokiaSuite or PcFilemanager.
Best 😊

PS - IR is slowwwwwwww
poke2 bt009s from blue take and it cost 39.99 which was the same price as a i r port which i thought was weird as blooth tooth is supposed to b better
On my bluetooth, if I take my phone and select any files on my phone I can send them via bluetooth then my pc sorts out the different file types and puts them in folders for me. Flash eh? 8) 😃
mines so good i cant even send pics to my pc all i can do is send pics to the phone i hate it its shit and wish i bought the infa red port like origanally planned
I have both, ir and bluetooth. Bluetooth is far better, believe me. Not only irda is very slow but also much more battery draining than bluetooth. I have even disabled the irda dongle in order to use it as a standard ir receiver for remove controls using mirian. Only the second version of irda is faster than bluetooth, but unfortunately it is not supported by 7650.
I used Irda to send some .sis into a friends phone.......
and we had much time to talk ......
to drink our coffee....
Now i bought BT(conceptronic)(because I'm waiting for 3650) and i have no time to talk or coffee.....
it 's so fast....
that I didn' t believe it,
I thought that files were not transfered correct.....but with errors...
it is very fast.....
and I can send photos or .3gp to my pc even when i'm leaving my home
BT is fantastic.....
a friend of mine uses it a lot for IRC.....(7650 BT-->pc BT-->DSL)

You CAN send files from your phone to you PC - just follow the links and advice already given here and you'll be up and running in no time 😉
It's not the PHONES fault if the software on the BT Dongle you bought needs tweeking to receive the files - complain the the software manafacturers of you BT dongle, or to save time follow the links given here and it explains what you need to do. 😉
Best
