They've been available in Japan for a couple of days I think now 😊 Mine are being sent from there on Monday with any luck 😃
did you buy yours online?
anyone hear anything about when the pre-orders from brando are comming?
I've been search for this on the net and I've found a few sites that advertise it but they don't have it yet? How much is the 128MB from Japan? IIRC I saw it for around 9,500 yen (55). In the UK, it will be about 110 I and in the US, $110 I believe.
Cansomebody please post the Japan site the released the 128 duo?
Here's the URL I've found if you can understand Japanese 😊

I preordered the 128MB from Brando since last month. Back then the 64MB wasnt available yet. I checked their site today and saw that they have already the 64MB on stock. You might wanna consider it if you cant wait for the 128MB. Their site says that the 128MB will start shipping next month
How much does it cost to get it shipped to UK from Japan??
Has anybody ordered it to the UK?
Can someone who understands japanese please tell us the phone number to dial from the uk to speak to someone? (hopefully in english)
thanks
I tried dialing them from the states, but they are closed today... Will try back on Monday and post feedback.
The Memory Stick Duos cost me around 11 thousand yen from a Sony shop in Japan. A relative over there bought them for me and they're sending them off hopefully on Monday... can't wait to finally have some decent MP3 storage space 😃
Total cost after postage is around 60 per stick I guess, which compares favourably with the Brando price 😊
Thats so cheap.. Is it possible to order the thing from Japan?
if it helps here is a link to a translation of the sound11.com site from excite:
Jon
You'll have to click the "MEMORY STICK" link on the left and the 128MB is on the 2nd page of that classification.
Their contact number is:
Sony shop Sound eleven
Person in charge Yokota 暁
E-Mail [email protected]
TEL 027-287-4144
FAX 027-287-4145
Don't know if he speaks english though.
I doubt he delivers overseas..
I called them and the guy in charge does not speak English at all.. Anywho, I happened to get a translator and they confirmed that they will not ship overseas... So unless you take a trip to Japan you gots to wait.
hmmmm, thats a shame. Anyone seem them avaliable anywhere else on the web?
Also on a side topic, anyone know of any jap sites that offer uk sales? I can't get over how cheap some of the sony stuff was on that site, and might try and buy a new vaio from japan
jon
That's what i'm doing...I reckon Brando/Expansys etc won't have stock of the 128mb stick until the end of april at the earliest and then you're gonna have the same stock problems we've had with the 64mb sticks.
Dabs has some 64mb sticks in for delivery now...

Would there be any difference between a a Japan Released MS duo and a HK or US or UK released one? I can get it from Japan trhough a friend but im scared that there mite be a different or japanese version file system on it. Need to know asap because that friend of mine is almost coming home 😊 Thanks in advance fella's
As far as I know, there's no difference between them. If there is a problem though, you could probably format the stick in your P800 which generates the correct file system!
I'll be able to confirm this in a few days 😃
One way of getting around this is to get an HK vendor to buy one for you.. P800.er is selling them about 45 USD more then what these Jap- vendors are selling it for.. So they are getting them cheap from Japan hence their profit margin being about 40-50 USD. So, if you are tight with an HK vendor you can ask them to make an individual purchase for you and offer to pay them a bit extra for it.
Please post the site where they are selling the 128 Duo. Im having someone buy it for me and Japan but I havent seen any website yet 😞

If you can get your friend to go to any Sony shop then they should be readily available in most/all of them there 😊
Thanks, I guess your right 😊 Sony should have around 20 or so shops there, this should be like fastfood there 8)
I just hope my source will not get me the magic gate by mistake 😊
as far as i'm aware, they are MagicGate. I was looking for a regular 128MB Duo but failed miserably. As far as I know, the only 128MB Duos are the MagicGate ones.
I have an uncle working in Hong Kong and thought that he might be able to get me one from the Honk Kong Sony store.

I have emailed them to see if they have any in stock and will let you know the outcome.
Even better have a look here, or maybe these aren't actually duo's - am getting confused :-?

Yep - the ones I've had bought are MagicGate ones - as far as I know they work fine, and the MagicGate features aren't enabled in the P800 so there are no other problems 😊
...except that you have to pay a royalty for a feature that you don't want (MG costs more than normal...and normal Sony already costs more than other flash memories...)
The mMaic gate Memory Sticksare colored white. The difference between MG MS and Duo's and Normal Memory Sticks is the MP3 security function of the MG. You need to use Sony's software to load and unload Mp3's on the MG whilst on the others (Duo, normal...etc) you can just copy, send and delete mp3's anytime you want. Magic gate should work normally for us P800 users excpet for the Mp3 part because we dont have the software for it. My clie use to have that software but I never opted to get an MG because the security function was pretty annoying for me.
The 128 Duo sticks are still due to be released in April. So all we can really do is wait.
If someone can link us to a Sony style shop in Japan that proves Japan has released the 128 Duos then that's the time I'll ask someone to get it for me there.
