The mMaic gate Memory Sticksare colored white. The difference between MG MS and Duo's and Normal Memory Sticks is the MP3 security function of the MG. You need to use Sony's software to load and unload Mp3's on the MG whilst on the others (Duo, normal...etc) you can just copy, send and delete mp3's anytime you want. Magic gate should work normally for us P800 users excpet for the Mp3 part because we dont have the software for it. My clie use to have that software but I never opted to get an MG because the security function was pretty annoying for me.
The 128 Duo sticks are still due to be released in April. So all we can really do is wait.
If someone can link us to a Sony style shop in Japan that proves Japan has released the 128 Duos then that's the time I'll ask someone to get it for me there.

I have a Magic Gate 64MB installed in my P800 and I have a few MP3s on this MG mem stick which were copied from my PC to P800 by using the Windows file manager (while the P800 was connected with the PC through the original supplied phone link software).
I am waiting for the 128MB version though, as 64MB is definitely not enough to hold apps & a good selection of MP3s 😃
@rozariom
can you try connecting your P800 on to another PC or try transfering those tunes to another PC, Laptop or P800. If you wont be able to do this then thats how the MagicGate works, it prevents you from copying those mp3s to other devices. If it works, then I guess the P800 is imune to Magic Gate 😊 MagicGate is more expensive than the ordinary memory sticks though 😊
Muzikfreakah's almost right but not quite. The MagicGate memory stick will, when used with a MagicGate compatible device, prevent you from copying unlicensed ATRAC3 encoded music files.
But, as the P800 isn't MagicGate compatible, and everyone uses MP3, not ATRAC3 (which, I belive, is similar to the format used by minidisc), it makes no difference to us whatsoever.
I too have a 64MB MagicGate memory stick with a load of MP3's on it, and I can swap copy them to wherever I like.

Thanks Bassey! 😊 Well I guess that clear things up. I never really got a chance to messaround with Magic Gate because after reading about it once I decided not to get it. But there you go! 😊
I found a vendor in the states that is willing to sell the 128mb stick to me for less then what P800er is selling it for. I'll be receiving mine on the 1st of April.. So far the cheapest price I've seen for this stick is $69USD, however, no shipment to the US. I bargained with the vendor to match it as close as 20 bucks. Better deal then the 50 bucks + everyone else is selling it for.
Guys,
Now I am in Osaka, Japan and going to Tokyo tomorrow for three days. I intend to buy myself 128 due magic gate memory stick 😊 . If somebody has an idea in mind, please let me know how can I help. I will check my e-mail tomorrow once I am in the hotel. My e-mail is: [email protected]
cheers 😉 ,
Saidtalib
I'd be willing to buy one off you if you purchase any extras. 😊
Dear all 😮lympic: ,
To my disappointment 😞 , I searched all Ginza and Akihabara streets but 128 magic gate memory stick is sold out. I could only find 64 MB magic gate sticks and they are selling for 8000 yen. For those who asked me to buy the normal 128 Duo, please note that Sony dont make them (pretty stupid I guess) :x .
I any case, I still didnt give up. Therefore, I have asked a Japanese friend to make few phone calls and check who can deliver them to me in Tokyo, I will keep you posted.
For those who wanted me to buy them, please note it is a bit hard to receive money here in Japan. Therefore, I will buy few and take them back home where I could send it to you. This is of course, if I find them.
cheers
Hi Said,
Thanks for your effort in seeking out the 128mb MSD's. Hope you're enjoying your trip. Maybe there are some in Roppongi? 😉 j/k. Cheers.

Roppongi? That's where the bars and night clubs are. I don't think you can find the MSD over there. Try Shinjuku instead. There're quite a few large electronics stores over there like Yodobashi Camera, etc.
I see that p800er are doing a compact flash adapter , you can buy 512MB CF cards for just over 100 ... just a thought 😃
Thats for converting a MS Duo into a CF card, not converting a CF card into a memory stick duo.
Hi everyone,
I have found three Magicgate 128 memory sticks today, or actually founded by my Japanese friend. Unfortunately, more than this number has requested me to buy them. Therefore, it is fare to say that I will have to give them to the first two who will e-mail me. Please note that they are a bit expensive because they are sold out. The price is with the cost of delivering them to the hotel is: 12,579 Japanese Yen each. I think that is about USD $105.00, but please convert that to your currency plus it will be more with shipping to your country.
As it is hard to deliver them from Japan, I will deliver them when I get back to Oman on Sunday. But first, and I hope you understand, payment will have to be made through Western Union.
In any case, they will be delivered to me tomorrow night, and the first two e-mailers will get them.
NOTE: ONLY SERIOUS BUYERS PLEASE. I AM DOING THIS AS A FAVOUR.
Regards,
Saidtalib

Dear All,
SOLD!
Unless the two who bought them backup, please don't e-mail me as I have received tens of e-mails. In any case, I am here until Thursday, if I get any more, I will gladly post a note.
Thanks to you all,

I finally went ahead and preordered it from brando 😊 Cant wait 😊
one salesman told me, 128MB stick slows down performance; he recommended 64mb instead. is this a sales trick or ?
I called her up, she hardly speaks English. They do not ship outside Japan.
Just been in to the High St Kensingston Sony shop who said they were expecting the first delivery of 128 memorystick duos some time next week! Bring it ON!
Anyone knows when the memory stick duo 128mb will arrive in Portugal? Here nobody knows when...
