C6 appears on sale at Nokia UK store

Nokia's next Symbian^1 device, the C6 has appeared on sale at Nokia's UK store. The C6 is a touchscreen phone with side-sliding QWERTY keyboard, featuring the same homescreen widgets as seen on the N97 and N97 mini. It was announced back in April along with the C3 and E5. The emphasis of the April release was to 'democratise' the market by bringing unlocked handset prices down to a more affordable level. Therefore, we're a little surprised at the £289 price tag on the C6. Of course, prices on the Nokia UK store are typically higher than 'street' retail prices, but this is still different from the £230 price tag we expected.

Should be 199 to compete with Xperia X10 mini Pro.

A 5800 with slide out qwerty and 5 MP camera, plus home screen widgets.

In other words, an N97 mini in a cheaper case. N97 moni is available around 240.

I'm sure that the non Nokia resellers will do this for around 200.

Yup, Nokia stores are always more expensive it seems.. not sure they can afford it the way Nokia is doing right now.

I really like my 5800 and the C6 looks very cool (like a 5800qwert-slider). The pricepoint is reasonable, maybe 240. But it's simply a year to late.

Could it be that this is the last leavings from Nokias old line-up?

I for sure hope that this is the last S^1 phone. If not, they will be maintainig 6 OSs for years! (S^1, S^3, S^4, MeeGo, Maemo and S40) [7 if you split S^1 into S60v3 and S60v5]. I think this is to much.

Yes, but that doesn't count, because the phones you buy direct from Nokia are SIM free.

To even see it for 230 on PAYG is quite surprising. I would have expected a phone like the C6 on PAYG for something like 160-180, with the SIM free price to be 230-250 at most.

C6 is already sold in Singapore from mobile operator M1, and also without contract for S$499.

I can confirm that the C6-00 has appeared in the inventory system of a major US tech distributor.
Available in black or white with an ETA of August 2nd.

hey steve is IM clients already available on ovi store?? i want to install it on my n97

Manufacturer stores are always expensive as hell.

Nobody knows why - maybe to keep their retailers happy...

You can get this for about 190 in Malaysia or 220 at official Nokia store.

From the Nokia shop, the N97 Mini can be had for 10 more, but comes with a car holder & charger. So they really don't want to sell the C6, do they?

Going on SIM free prices, the C6 is pretty much the same price as the Xperia X10 Mini.

So the N97 Mini and the C6 are pretty much the same price, the same product, why bother having two slightly different versions of the same product? Actually, add in the N97 and they've got 3 products that are basically the same, minor point differences in spec and design.

Utter stupidity.

The X10 mini has no qwerty, the X10 mini PRO does have slide out qwerty, I have picked up an Xperia X10 mini Pro - unlocked for 199.

I am certain that the C6 will not be at the quoted priced when it is widely available. It will be more like 179.

If it does hit the high street at 179, then there's going to be virtually no reason to buy the N97 Mini unless you absolutely need the additional internal memory and TV-out - for most people, the C6 will probably look like a better bet (assuming they like the colour).

This is One of the Reasons why Nokia are getting pulled down in the mobile market, the C6 as a Plastic Body an paying over 200 for it seem a pretty High Price to pay, as the phones body gets marked an scratched easily so the Value of the C6 will trumble Quickly,o.k Nokia might think its o.k for the Younger Generation but,if Nokia could put better Quality Fascia on its Mobiles the phone would keep its Value, the N8 as a Metal Body that does not Scratch easily an this phone will keep it full value,Samsung put better Quality fascias on its Mobiles an Attracts the Public More than the Plastic ones Nokia uses, but just hope after the N8 we do get Metal Body Fascias on Current Mobiles from Nokia

looks like n97 clone poor cutomers who got n97 for 700usd

by the way apple page shows even n97mini too have signal problem that too with video proof what a shame

C6 compared to my N97 mini:

  • It is bigger and haevier.
  • It won't charge vie USB.
  • It lacks the Carl Zeiss lens and a dual led flash.
  • It lacks the compass.
  • It lacks stereo speakers.
  • It lacks an internal mass storage (8 GB on N97 mini)
  • It lacks the TV-out.
  • Cheaper material used.

I know why I spent my money (EUR 300,00 at the time of purchase) on the N97 mini...

N97 mini does NOT have the same signal problem as iPhone 4. It is NOT possible to touch the metal of the antenna on an N97 mini. All phones will drop signal when shielded. iPhone 4 will drop when touched with a fingertip.

Apple have done a really good job of fooling a lot of people.

more example of nokia's schizophrenic behavior. Why sell this when the n97 mini is going strong (and cheap at $389 in amazon).... As a matter of fact, why bother with c-line in the first place?

IMHO, the C6 has a better keyboard than the N97 mini - at least from what I have seen so far.

I intended it to be my wifes main phone until I got that BlackBerry Storm 😉

Yes, the keyboard really does look excellemt. Even better than that on my N900. I hope the first Symbian^3 qwerty device will have a keyboard similar to this one.

I will jump on the bandwagon and agree that it is overpriced, and it seems that they omitted TV out in the name of product differentiation. Nokia are in danger of creating too much fragmentation and confusing customers.
