C7 constant restarting

37 replies · 23,431 views · Started 29 October 2010

Mine goes off any time, even when left idle, but much more frequently when in use; games, browsing the web, camera, messaging, practically anything.

Apparently there are many who have perfectly OK phones, I wonder why..

@timallen
I wanted to know if we can expect the software development on the C7 to be as good as that of the N8? Will the firmware updates be as frequent and newer features as quickly implemented?

I bought my C7 through O2 last Friday (25/11/10). It hung during 2 phone calls with auto restarts. It also hung while using iPlayer. Got to the stage where it would not take a soft reset - over-heating?. Took the battery out and in and then it would restart. after another hang, it would not restart. Tried to recharge it but the phone showed no response. Took it back to O2 on Monday (29/11/10) who managed to get it to restart, blaming the charger. When I mentioned the hanging they replaced it as it was a new phone.

New phone worked OK until today (Wed 01/12/10) when it suddenly hung again. Took a soft reset to restart it. Battery power was 4 bars, so definitely not that.

Googled and saw loads of results of this issue, so will wait and see what happens.

At least you get to exchange your phone.

I'm from Malaysia, and apparently, Nokia Malaysia has this retarded policy of not exchanging phones.

Took it to a Nokia Care Centre and they called me after, saying it's now a global problem and they can't do anything but wait. No refund, no exchange, just wait.

Nokia, if you're still monitoring this, please get up and do something. Selling a defective product and refusing to exchange or refund it is just plain ridiculous. This may be the last time I get a Nokia.

I'm pretty disappointed in Nokia. I waited 6 months after my contract had ended on the promise of the N8 release. It kept being delayed month after month. I eventually decided on the C7 instead as I liked the form factor a little better. I had my phone for 27 days and apart from 2 or 3 lock ups it was great. On the 28th day whilst using Nokia Maps/GPS, the phone froze and is now in a constant state of either frozen, or rebooting. The Nokia white screen of death as I've now heard it (all over the web). This is obviously a VERY common problem. As I have now hit 28 days the phone shop will not give me a refund. I now have to wait for T-Mobile to exchange my phone for another device that I'm convinced will suffer from the same flaw.

I really wanted to believe that Nokia had finally changed. I've been using Nokia since 1997 and had stuck with them through thick and thin. I should have known that being an early adopter would have come with some pain. It happened for me with N73 and N95 and N97. What has Nokia done internally to ensure that the repeating of prior mistakes wouldnt re-occur? Apparently nothing.

I'm so angry right now. To top it off, Nokia (to my knowledge) have not issued recalls or publically acknowledged the major reliability issues at all. No announcements about new firmware. Nothing.

Maybe Nokia really are doomed and we should all march off to pick up new Android devices. Sticking around for another few years for Meego to finally get the kinks worked out could be painful - not to mention the lack of credible apps.

I've been using C7 for a week, but no reboots or freezing so far. Works like 6250 or even 1611 - not very fast but stable.
My only complaint about hardware is camera - which is really terrible if compared to N79 (which has "only" 5MP). Ok, I understand that phone is not a SLR, but still... Another - the same music player with the same problems - you cannot play the content of a folder, tags arent always recognized, so the only way is to create custom playlists.
Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but the battery is completely dry in approx. 12 hours. I don't know what would I do if I hadnt PCs all around and charger in a car.
And finally - something is wrong with the routing algorythm in ovi maps. If you plan to cross Europe, first check the whole map or you will probably go extra thousand of kilometers. From Baltic to Adriatic sea at least 5 extra points have to be added.

Received a brand new C7 today from T-Mobile. Switched on and immediately was informed of a new software version (12.004). I had to connect to a computer to download/install it but it went through fine. The date on this version of software is 18th November... i suspect T-Mobile has been putting it through it's internal testing before now being released.

So far so good although it's only been 1 day. One thing I noticed straight away is that when using the Ovi store you can hit search and then you only need to do a single tap (instead of the double tap) to get to the text entry screen (that used to really bug me). You still can't enter text using predictive (why oh why!!) but one step at a time I guess.

I haven't noticed any other little tweaks yet but I'm sure there will be some there. Maybe its my imagination but it seems like the animation when scrolling between home screens seems a little smoother.
