My son has a Nokia C7, he will be running widgets in offline mode, 1 program running. get 2 calls and a couple messages. And the phone will be dead in half a day. The funny thing is when he got it he was 1.5 days with heavy use.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

i had the same problem with my n8, previously it lasted almost 2 days out of the box and then after a couple of days it only lasted half a day (about 5 hours). i think the problem has got to do with the photo app crashing or stuck refreshing the library and creating thumbnails for all my 1900+ photos. it caused the cpu to be at 100% all the time and i can feel that my phone is a bit warm. i tried using the internal memory instead of the sd card, still the same. tried hard reset, no go. so i deleted all of my photos and voila! i suddenly got very good battery life. i could get a whole day with heavy use of the phone (web, call, voip, game, music, radio) and about 2 days with light use, few calls, 30 min web, 30 min music, power saver enabled.
Some say it's the sd card, but i found that it was my photo app sucking my battery dry regardless of sd card or internal memory. Why don't you try removing photos and see if it would make a difference. hth
