Beta: Icon Changer for Series 60
How long will the registration period last. I hope it won't be too late. In about 24 hours i'll be online normally through my computer and not through wap... Also who is the developer(company)?

Hi there,
The beta test application will stay open until 25 people have registered.
The application will be in beta stage in 2 weeks at the latest (Sorry about the delay, however one phone has already had to go to an NSC because of a UID problem when changing the "Telephone" icon, resulting in an endless cycle of "System Error" messages).
I am the developer, no big faceless companies 😉
As said in the thread in the 7650 forum, it will be released as freeware.
Cheers
Well that's great news. So no need to hurry and register. It would be too late by then. Good luck in the development of the program pal...

Thank you for your support 😊
I appreciate it.
I've registered j2k... I hope to receive an email from you and I hope I'll be included in the 25 people who will beta-test.
Thanks and Good Luck
Hi there,
All beta testers should have now received 2 e-mails, one telling you that you've been successfully added to the beta testing list, and another asking you to reply to the e-mail to indicate the address is active.
Apologies if you received 2 "Welcome" e-mails - the mail server got screwed up.
Cheers
When are u going to sent the email with the application out to the poor beta testers? 1st of April?

I am sorry that you think that this is an April fool joke, I assure you it is not. Beta testers will receive the software in two weeks at the latest.

This bit worries me a little. It this program is going to be released as freeware then thousands on people will download it and at least try it once. Are you sure that your program will work without errors? Even if you say in release notes or whatever that users use it at their own risk, most people will never read those notes.
That's why the beta is taking so long to be released - it's being treated with great care, checking UIDs on different phones with different firmwares to make sure they match up.
As with everything though, there can be extreme circumstances where problems will still occur. For example, I think someone mentioned in the main 7650 forum a while ago that even installing HipCam resulted in "Phone startup failed. Contact retailer." so nothing is perfect, however extreme care is being taken with this application.

Dont get so upset......I think that would make a good April joke.

😃 Isn't that when the 7650i is due out? 😃
Yep...but this joke was too early 😃

Seems you use the same method as I will with a new IconManager version for the 9210 😉
Try scanning the aif file for the correct uid everytime might help? (I had a html file dscribing that but can't find it from this computer)

Good suggestion! Thanks 😊
At the moment I'm getting the UID3 from the .app and combining that into the .aif - seems to work. The problem being, some firmwares/phones might have different UID3s for the .app - that's where the System Errors start appearing.
j2k: thanks for releasing this app as freeware! But if I could make another request... why not release it as open source? As I'm sure you know, getting started with programming on Series 60 has a bit of a steep learning curve, and the more people who can figure it out, the more cool apps we'll all get to see!
Oh, and good luck messing around with all those AIF files... rather you than me! 😊

No problem 😊

Hey all,
A quick Alpha version for you all (This is the only version non-beta testers will get hold of until the Final Release) which will change the To-Do icon.
I've released it to prove MaleBuffy wrong and to show it is not a hoax :P
If you have any opinions, comments or questions, please send me a PM.
Download here.
Cheers, and enjoy!
I really hope you do 😃
And you did! 😃
Icon program havent extension...need to be renamed to .sis extension?
Tnks
There should be. It is a .sis file.
I can load it fine.
Bah... installed it, restarted phone, but absolutely nothing changed in my phone and there is no icon to launch the program. Hope it didn't harm my phone in any way.... firmware 3.16 here
Sheesh, just woke up people sorry 😊 The program actually does what it claims to do, I mean it changes the to do icon. I didn't read carefully the previous post and thought it had to change all the icons (a bit weird for a 5kb program...). Ok, forget my previous post, great proggy btw! =)
cool application....cant wait for the final verson to come!! :P

This is the news. Tell me what you dont understand. The Icon Changer is ALMOST at Beta stage. ALMOST. We never said that it is ready. So news are reported correctly.
Yeah, exactly.
It's ALMOST at beta stage. Not YET.
The heading says "Beta: Icon changer..", when it was (and as of this writing, still is) in ALPHA.
I thought I'd note it, as that's what I'm good at. I'm a born editor. I meant no offense. Guess the anticipation of changing my icons to too big to have to look at the news page every now and then and go "ooh!", but then realise its not a new Beta announcement and go "aawwww..", like so many of us.
No disrespect But....if you have read the news item you would know that it was ALMOST in beta stage. You obviously just noticed the "Beta:" and ignored the news item. Anyways, I dont realy know the status of the program. I am not a beta tester.
A newbie here...
Suggeston :fadein:
For the developer, i really don't know if this is what you are doing when getting beta tester's:
It would be much better if you filter it out (not getting the first 25) to person with phones released on europe, asia and the americas and to include old and the upgraded fw?
Its just a suggestion. 😃
