I've recently updated my N8 firmware to 013.016, but since I've done this, the screen has been cropped down both sides when I'm taking 12MP shots.
It's fine when I go into the settings and change it to a lower resolution, it gives me a full screen. It's just driving me mad why I don't get a full-screen view when I use 12MP.
Anyone else having this problem, and, if there is a solution, can anyone help?!!
Thanks.
I never had full screen for 12Mpix shots even for the previous firmware. Are you sure you have been taking your shots at 12 Mpix 4:3 and not 9Mpix 16:9?
The only way to get it like that is to use Digital zoom (bad quality).. but never seen an option to make it full screen..
The camera sensor is 4:3 so full 12mp images will be this aspect ratio. The N8 screen is 16:9 which is why you get left/right bars on the screen when taking 12mp pics.
To achieve full screen photography you'll need to shoot 16:9 images which is done by cropping the top and bottom 1.5mp from the sensor.
The quality of the 12mp (4000x3000px) and 9mp (4000x2248px) images should be identical.

What problem? The cropping is 'by design', it shows you that you're taking a 4:3 aspect ratio photo.

Precisely! There is no such problem!
You can't have a 4:3 aspect image fill a 16:9 screen. Just not possible.
I never had complete display for 12Mpix photos even for the past firmware are you sure you have been getting your photos at 12 Mpix 5:4 and not 8Mpix the only way to get it like that is to use Zoom capability but never seen an choice to create it complete display....
About Bradkay
I think all the cameras have an option of selecting the required aspect ratios. And sometimes there are aspect ratios where the width of the frame is very long and it is very hard to have them printed.
