I have noticed that ater taking pictures, the quality doesnt seem so good on the P800. But when you send those pics to the PC they look great!
As long as there is good lighting we can already take very clear pictures. But on even slightly dark places to very dark places the pics are terrible...
That's because the P800 only has 4096 colors, but the internal camera takes the image in full color.
BTW, the pictures don't look "great", they look "ok-ish".
THE CAMERA IS FINE BUT NOT THE DISPLAY 😞
The camera of p800 has great problems with bright light (at example on a sunny day outside-it is not possible to take photos on which you can see the motive, on camera and on pc).
Some guys here say that is because of the compression. I cant believe this full. The camera of 7650 takes better photos and the are smaller than on the p800, so the compression is higher but the photos are better.
Last but least, we have to accept that this is a smartphone. If we want to have a fun phone we should buy Nokias or others.

Did you set the flicker free option to OFF?? I have no probs at all taking pictures in bright sunlight with that option... 8)

Did you have it on or off?
I agree the P800 can take some really nice daytime photos which look really good in 16bit or higher colour but it really fails in darker conditions, I find that even in reasonably bright artificial light the photos arn't good. I used to be able to take pictures of my friends in a nightclub with my 7650 and still be able to see them clearly but the P800 just records a big grainy mess. 😞
What I dont get is why there's these horisontal lines in the picture.... its almost as of its not been deinterlaced properly. The lines arn't compression artefacts (those are available too though).
Then there's the problem with the bubble perspective, Its prol because the lense isn't "flat" enough. That can be tweaked in software /post retouch.. I just hope it will be added in the "snap foto" profile.

Well, of course, there are some hardware issues. But I think it is
more a software problem. In my mind, the jpeg compression algorithm,
in the P800, is a somehow a loosely implementation. Secondly, we could
have better images quality if we could adjust the compression ratio.
However, the best software solution would be to take a picture in full
size/depth and then compressing it via a wavelet compression algorithm
(jpeg2000).

I strongly believe that a future firmware will solve most of the problems, but not all. Even on the 7650 the image quality is so good but some third parties program really solve many problems. The camera api for p800 has been released. So we may see some programs using it and creating better quality photos, but of course a newer firmware will be a better solution because the os has direct access to the hardware.
Photographer is one example, lets hope it will be ported to UIQ real soon.
:P yeah i really want photographer too... miss those crazy zooming in nightmode... hehhehe...

Sry should have clarified: OFF !!!
So just set the flicker option to OFF and your pics will be great in bright sunlight 😮 (now we could argue what great means, but for a phone it's great) 😃
I still feel that the camera of the P800 is crap compared to that of the Nokia. Sad to say but true. Until they came out with a software or an upgrade to fix that, i dont see me using it for awhile 😞
But its good enough for MMS messages 😃
Well maybe yes. But i dont really use MMS. Its kinda expensive hehehe
what the heck is the rubberband doing on your headset??? 😮
P800 PIX QUALITY SUCKS!!!!
I HAD A KODAK PALMPIX (640X480) FOR MY PALMIIIxe AND QUALITY WAS VERY GOOD, AND NOKIA HAS GOOD Q ON 3650.
THE PROBLEM IS PURELY SOFTWARE AND SILLY COMPRESION, SINCE ALL
THE CMOS CHIPS ARE IDENTICAL,
I'LL EXPECT TO SEE A LOT OF IMPROVMENT FROM SE IN THIS FIELD
I WOUDNT EXPECT A NIGHTCAM THOUGH CAUSE I THINK THE 3650
HAS A LIGHT SENSOR ON ITS BACK
INSTAL 'FULL SCREEN PICTURE' SOFTWARE, IT IMPROVES THE RESOLUTION OF THE PICTURES 😮 😮 😮
Please people no SHOUTING! 😉
Ouch! My eardrums. We can read you loud and clear but no shouting please. :usa
