Grrrrr...Uninstalling bluetooth software help please :(

HELP!!!! I've got a Gigabyte USB bluetooth, with Widcomm 1.2.2.9 drivers that allowed me to send files to my phone, but not from phone to PC, so I then installed Nokia PC Suite, which after ages of browsing this and the 7650 forum still didn't work (my phone was unsupported according to PC Suite.....) so I looked at the Gigabyte website and they had Widcomm 1.3.2.7 drivers (after unzipping the files all say 1.2.2.9).

I then tried to uninstall 1.2.2.9, only to get about halfway through the process to get an error message on a registry key saying i didn't have permission to delete it. This left me with half of my bluetooth drivers uninstalled, and when i try to re-install it takes me straight to the uninstall process 😞

To top it all i tried to uninstall PC Suite and that just gets stuck in a loop saying that I need to restart my PC, then when I do restart it tells me that it needs to restart my pc etc etc etc. Any idea wtf I've done???

Good idea........sometime i need to reinstall the OS 2 times a month......thats the best way to fix the problem.......seriously! 😃

Unfortunately not really an option....I erm kinda did it on my PC at work... 😮ops:

The problem I'm getting is:

Error 1402.Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Widcomm\Install\SecurityObjects\opp. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

I've set all the permissions in that key so that anyone should eb able to access it but am still getting that message. What about if I go through the registry and delete all the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Widcomm\ entries (are there any more?)? Would that get rid of enough so that installer will start up rather than the uninstaller?

Before you do anything else, backup your registry (export it in regedit).

What version of Windows are you using?

Am running XP...bit too late for the backing up of registry, just renamed the widcomm folder in the string i posted above and the uninstall process ran fine...have installed 1.3.2.7 and seems to be working - just waiting for my girlfriend as she's run off with my dongle.

Well done. Glad you didn't reinstall your OS - i always see that as something beyond the last resort. And just a note, if you end up marrying your girlfriend, she'll ignore your dongle forever and just run off with your wallet 😉

Dongle (and girlfriend 😉 ) are back, for the first time i've been able to create a serial connection to phone, but then when i start pc suite it says that my phone is incompatible with the software and shuts down

Well I'm an 7650 owner also going through bt installation pains, so I can't be of huge therefore, but ... you haven't mentioned the mrouter yet. It's on the task bar, if you check enough of the com ports given, it should allow a serial connection. the taskbar icon should be green-yellow if you succeed. Only then might you be able to use PCSUITE properly (I think). Nevertheless, despite working, my bluetooth manager doesn't recognise it .. just great.

What I didn't follow is how you managed to install 1.3.2 when you also said that it was really comprised of 1.2.9 drivers ?

I installed the Billington drivers from http://www.billionton.com.tw/extra/USBBTUSB-N.zip

Now I can send files back and forth without opening PC Suite (still no joy...)
