9210 sw upgrade problem...

8 replies · 2,842 views · Started 03 June 2002

So, the problem is - i bought 9210 6 months ago with v3.54(I) sw installed. I started to encounter problems like - blocked phone when someone tries to call me, self-restarting (also when someone tries to call me) etc. On this forum i read that this particular sw revision is poor and that that could be the problem. Now the tricky part - i DON'T know how the guy that sold me the phone got it - it won't be very nice if i come to Nokia service center, they read my IMEI and tell me that that phone is stolen. So, if there is anyway that i can find out if my IMEI is on some blacklist (haha, maybe someone has DB on the net), or - is it possible, and with what equipment, to upgrade sw by myself? On the other hand, maybe those phone problems are not due to sw version, but to something else....?!

Thanks in forward...

If you bought this phone around 6 months ago meaning u still have warranty to it... so i highly suggest you get your software version upgraded at the NOKIA CENTRE...

the latest software version is less buggy than yours definitely...

p/s Theres no way you can upgrade it yourself... not that i know of...

I think the reason the original poster is avoiding a service center is because he/she is unware of the phone's origin, as mentioned in their post.

If you are in the UK, there is an IMEI blacklist on the T-mobile website. It should(?) also have records of any stolen phones from other coutnires where T-mobile have networks.

Try asking in the uk.telecom.mobile group on google.com ;They know the answers to these sorts of questions.

I've bought mine from a police officer, He got it from some criminal after checking the imei he sold the phone (what's the use of leaving something cool like that in evidence User posted image ). So what I mean to say ... if you know someone who's in the police you can ask him/her to check the code.

Mobile network operators keep infomation on what handsets THEY have blacklisted. They MAY have updated Nokia with this infomation, they may not.

Firmware updating yourself is quite possible, it just takes access to the hardware and software involved. I have seen the kit for 6210 for close to 1000 UK, it would take a modification of a kit like this to do a 9210. It effectively is just an EEPROM rewriter. It needs the appropriate connection to the phone, and the new firmware that is to be 'flashed' over.

A wasted mind.

Hi not been on here for a bit but I can get the phone upgrade for you if you like mail me [email protected][email protected]</a> it may take a week form when you send it to when you get it back, unlike the 6210 and other DCT-3 phone's the cost of the gear to do upgardes is high (the lowest price is 850 for a box with cables, unlike the DCT-3 box which is about 100) if you want to check if the phone is stolen phone all the network's and ask them for more info mail me and I can see what I can do for you.

I got my 9210 updated to sw revision 4.13 and after that it has been working well. No hangups, no self restarting and actually I haven't even reboot the machine after update. I think there is a list about stable sw revisions on Nokia pages. (3.56 and 4.13 or something..)

Hi people...
