This thread included a poll: Will you get a SX1?

Couple of things about the samsung, its a Symbian Series 60 phone, which means that you will definitely not have memory problems. Its has a MMC expansion and at least 4 MB od dynamic memoery.

Personally,i don't care about the vendor.Features,Horse Power and maybe looks will be deciding factors.

if i could choose between the sx1 and the 6600, I just would choose the Nokia, only because there is the NOKIA sign on it...

Nothing else than Nokia 😃

Joe "I want the new nokia" Shmoe, the best selling 6600 factor 😃

Can i quote you on this when people are saying that they will buy the 6600 beause of features? 😃

those samsung phones all look the same. At least nokia (and the sx1) dare to think of orignal ideas. I mean look at them, they all lokk like tiny variations of the t100 except for the watch which looks cool

Oh yeah and the reason i traitionally go for nokias is because they're normally the first out on the market. 5100 was the first to allow changable fascias, 3310 was the first for ringtones (to change them), the 5110 was the first phone with a qwerty keypad (phone, not treo or palm hybrids), the was the first to have decent games and the 7650 was the first to have a camera. And the 3650 was the first to have a videorecorder (the 7650 came out a day after the 3650 one) Nokia know that above all people want 1 killer feature, not a load of diffeent things. The people who decide these things is the average consumer, not people like us who actually realise that you can do other things with it that aren't there to start with.

5100 the first to have changable fascia?I don't think so.
5110 and a QWERTY keyboard, what are you talking about?Do you mean 5510?BTW:the communicator series were released way before the 5510.
There were camera phones long before the 7650(Although not in europe).A video recorder for the 7650 was released long time ago,a lot before the 3650(the phone) was even released.

How am i supposed to enjoy a fag and write a text on this phone without dropping it? Savage phone and def want to get one but if its not out by the end of the summer will prob get a p800.

sco2001: don't forget:

Siemens was first with:
Colour display (s10, s11, sl10 and s25 in 1998 and 1999)
WAP (s25)
Java (SL45i)
MP3/MMC (SL45)
Real PC-memory (s45, me45, m55 etc... still no other phone manufacturer than Siemens use such memory)

and Siemens have always been leading when it comes to adding own logos, ringtones etc. (since s25 in 1999)

This looks more like 'killer features' than changable facias 😉

You know all this we cry about who had first and all, Japan had long before these where in nappies. :P and still Siemens, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorolla...etc are still moving snails pace in europe.

hi molna from club-siemens, nice to see ya here. i joined your forum when i was craving the java delights of the M50/MT50 back when it was born. nice to see you in the new world of symbian smartphones.....the future is now!!!! 😃 😃

i guess it all comes down to what you want from a phone but for me there is no point in getting a phone for a few new features, when by this time next year, there is going to be a phone that is going to completly wipe away the others, maybe the neonode (although i don't know much about it) or a palm powered phone, likw the one samsung are bringing out. I also read somewhere that samsung are doing a pocket pc powered phone, palm powered phone and symbian powered phone. Sounds like their onto a winner there

I actually meant the 5110 was the first to have clip on fascias (I'm pretty certain of that) and because i was quite young when the 9110 came out i always considered it different to a phone. The 5510 was the first 'proper' phone to have a qwerty keyboard.

Finally, are you sure the videorecorder came out for the 7650 before the 3650?I'm pretty certain it came out the day after the 3650. It doesn't sound like nokia to release an add on for a phone thats about to be sold based on the fact of the videorecorder. I mean, nokia have got to the leading manufacturer and they didn't get there by being stupid did they?

sco2001,i was using a video recorder on my 7650 long time before the 3650 was even announced, although it was not released by Nokia.

I'm not going to argue whether the 5510 or the 9110 are "proper phones" or not 😊

All of the devices you mentioned probably can be clasified as smartphones, except one, that vapourware keychain thing, the neonode 😃

you know what....first time i've actually experienced vapourware first hand......its exilerating, like seeing the Berlin Wall brought down or watching the demise of Bananarama. 😊

Yeah right... These "colour" screen phones you're talking about could only display something like 4-8 colours. No sensible person would call this a "colour" display. The first real colour display phone was the Ericsson T68 (256 colours). Siemens didn't manage to produse a 256 colour screen phone untill ONE WHOLE YEAR later (S55).

I believe the first phone with real working WAP was Nokia 7110.

I belive that title goes to some Motorola phone way back when (can't remember the name right now).

That's probably correct, I'll give you that one.

And just what exactly is "real PC-memory" supposed to mean?

🙄

I believe Nokia was first out when it comes to changing the operator logo (Nokia 5110), not sure about changing ringtones, but I would think that was Nokia as well. Nokia also invented picture messaging and was the first manufacturer to use T9-predictive text input (Nokia 3210). Sony Ericsson's T68i was the first to use MMS.

Ericsson was also the one who introduced Bluetooth as the new wireless form of data and voice communication.

I don't see Siemens being much of an innovator in this market. They always seem to be one step behind, or rather one year too late (S55 and SX1).

I agree to most of them that Siemens is not a real innovator but I'd also like to add that it is one of the few companies with exceptional customer support (I have too many complaints for Nokia), and also that they always have a top phone that has everything an advanced user wants and maybe even more(some years ago the Siemens SL45,soon the SX1) although they are too slow. That's were SE is also heading (first the t68(i), now the P800 (soon P900)). I have never seen a Nokia phone beeing the perfect and most complete phone and I don't think I'll ever see such phone from Nokia...

Unfortunately none of the above Companies create BUGless phones (My credit here to the very stable Panasonic phones, too bad we have no Smartphones from Panasonic...)

The Communicator sucessor maybe 😉

Is anyone still going to buy an SX1 now that the Sendo X is here?

I would be interested in knowing their reasons as the X seems much better, and will prob be cheaper too (as it is on TIM at the moment).

Actually I am still interested.

You see Sendo will not be worldwide available...
(Too bad though because it is a great phone and if it had some promotion from more operators, it would be an instant hit...)

And don't tell me I can buy it through internet because I'd still miss many Localised things (The most important would be Greek T9 Text input)

Sendo will be available in the following place/languages that I know of so far:

for Europe, Australia & USA: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and NL?

for Asia: Special Editions with the traditional languages

SX1 is still my favourite phone out there.

I still want one over the sendo. The sendo looks like a normal phone, the SX1 looks exceptional. But hey that's my opinion.

Still waiting for either of them to show up in my corner of the world. If something better is announced before they do I may just hold out till then but I reckon the communicator successor is close to a year away still and that'll be the only other phone to attract me.
