Giving Up With PC Suite

12 replies · 3,098 views · Started 19 May 2003

OK, I've tried everytihng on this board (and others) to get PC Suite to find my 3650.

The BT dongle works, I have a serial port configured correctly and I can send files (and .sis installs) back and forth using the BT software quite happily.

But, like many others, I can't even open PC Suitre as it won't make its "first time" connection.

I've got better things to do so I'm giving up for the moment.

MY QUESTION IS.

Does anyone know of an updated version of "Nokia Handset Manager" or "PhoneMan Pro" which will work on the 3650 and allow me to edit contacts on my PC. Altenatively, can I use one of the file managers to copy the contacts directory to the MMC then read it on my card reader and edit from there (even as a text file)

All I really want to do is add postal addresses from my Psion to my contacts on the phone but it will take to long using the phones keypad.

errr i had tht problem connected wiv PC suite at 1st i think u juv have to actauly connect ur phone to ur PC using the bluetooth adapter/dongle or wot ever software u got wiv it and then once tht is done u should see the mRouter sign which shoes when PC suite is conected....worked for me....

What is it with the youth of today? The ability send text messages has a lot to answer for in terms of it's effect on grammar and the written word (LOL 😃 ). - no offence !

I've tried that, the Bluetooth connection is fine, the serial port is fine. To my mind, the problem is in mRouter or PC Suite and I've now spent far too long messing around trying all the options and testing the order in which to do things in as well as the various sotware versions.

I have now discovered that Oxygen Phone Manager have released a Symbian Series 60 version so I'll try that next.

Glad to hear you're getting on with the dongle (ish!) Terry. I had those PC suite problems at first mate. You might want to go to www.bluetoothimports.com and download the latest drivers and see what happens. I took me ages to frig about with the settings mRouter's and all, but (as you know) i got it working eventually. Keep trying and let me know how you get on with Oxygen as well.

By the way you might need a pass/username to download the latest drivers from the above site. If you do email me as before and i'll reply with the required.

Cheers

Terry, try activating the Bluetooth serial port connection to your phone with the Bluetooth software.

I've found that PC Suite doesn't detect the phone through the regular BT channel, but it does when you connect with a virtual bluetooth serial port.

Worth a whirl 😊

oh yea also on mRouter u might only want to tick the COM port it uses i tihnk i found tht somewher while looking at my bluetooth settings mines COM 5 and it uses no other.... and it works

Yeah Terry... don't give up! You can do it! hehe

Mine also at first didn't recognize my cellphone and I wasn't able to use my Pc Suite... I just turned on the bluetooth Serial Port in My Bluetooth Places and it's okay now. I did a lot of restarting on my PC also just to get it right... good thing everything works fine now.

Ok, so I won't give up - I'm not going to be beaten by a machine.

The issue clearly is with the serial ports.

My Bluetooth Places seems to want the serial port to be on COM0 although I cannot manually add a COM0 in "Control Panel "Add New Hardware".

mRouter doesn't show it either (I thought I should have been on Com5 or Com6)

Thoughts/comments

BTW, Orange Phone manager for Series 60 is in ALpha at the moment and only supports IRDA -I am awaiting a reply from their Customer Services on the timescale for a full release (or even a Beta).

Terry

I am new to this thread. But if I am correct in my assumption that your aim is to use PC Suite and the 3650 but you do not have IRDA and are trying to use Bluetooth?....

My suggestion is to purchase an IRDA device from Belkin. I got one two weeks ago and it works perfectly. I use PC Suite to my desktop PC (Windows 2K) through the IRDA device plugged into my USB port.

You can get one online or from Dixons, etc. About 30.

The idea is not work around a problem by spending more money on a slower communication method but to solve the problem and have the device working the was it was intended to and advertized. The problem is that PCSuite is very picky in the communication method that it accepts.

On the other had for example I still can't get XTND connect to install a Bluetooth COM port on my WinXP machine. Once I will have that figured out PCSuite should work.

Mine also said the it's COM0 but the mRouter showed COM4... I can't remember what I did exactly to the bluetooth and PC Suite working... I just remember doing some restarting and activating the ports.

For me the "trick" was to first check all checkboxes for connection of type "Bluetooth", and uncheck "Cable" and "Infrared", in mRouter. After that I try to establish a "Bluetooth Serial Port" using the stuff that came with the dongle. That always gives me a message telling it will use COM0 followed by a message telling it failed to connect! But, after doing that mRouter "wakes up" and establish a connection with the phone. From there it works perfect, hehe. So attempting to connect a BT Serial port somehow "triggers" mRouter. Other people have told me that they have to do like that too.

Some success. Although the XTNDC software was preventing my machine at home from booting (Win98SE), I've installed the 2.1 on my laptop here at work (Win2K) and it does work (eventually) - I've finally got PC suite running and synchronised my work Outlook.

As appointments are mainly a work thing, I think I will simply enter the rest of my private contacts at work and get their addresses in that way.

I may just get round to the Win2K upgrade at home (I've been promising myself for ages).
