Okay, so I've had my P800 for three months now, it works quite well, I got a 128MB duo stick (which works a treat), still using firmware R1D and can't be bothered to get it upgraded - and now I'm wondering what else to wait for, or to do with it.
I guess the only thing that I will appreciate, is an updated music player with forward/back controls and shuffle. After that arrives, I'll be happy and not bother to get more firmware upgrades or other stuff for it.
Not sure what the quality of the built-in camera is, but maybe SE can squeeze better looking photos out of it?
That's my thoughts on the matter, what do you think?
I'll just answer the topic subject: Yes I am!! I still don't have one 😊
-EDIT-
I'd like drivers for the PocketTop keyboard and an Two button and Joystick addon 😊
Have you tried the latest version of OggPlay? It's quite nice, with FC mode and shuffle and everything.. There's no FF in FC mode though, but there is a simple one in FO.
I'm still excited about it, even after more than 5 months of usage. 😃 I believe that it's true potential has yet to be revealed though, this is only the beginning, I believe there's still lots and lots of great software in the pipeline for this beast! :bday:
Im very excited about it eventhough I have had it for 3 months now 😊 All the new aps just seem to surprise me!!! 😊
Me kinda bored with it.
It'll get all good when:
1. I get a 128mb duo
2. I get my hands on a HBM 30 (free 64mb duo) \o/
3. They improve the camera quality
4. They integrate video recording
5. The alarm goes off in silent mode
6. Able to use the calculator in flip close mode
Yes, I am. It's the best gadget I've ever bought.
I love being able to play Doom on the move and I use it as a phone for less than 5% of the time I am using it.
I am just trying to get a Java IDE installed so I can start developing for it (I'm just an amateur so don't look to me to write Office for SymbianOS 😉 ) so the scope is virtually unlimited.
My P800 doesn't do everything I'd like (it can't make me a cup of tea or hoover for me) but it's well over half way to being my perfect fantasy gadget, and compared to anything else out there it's a clear winner (for now).
Still very happy with it! This is the first phone I'm really satisfied with.
Would like an improved MP3 player as well, and anxuously awaiting a GPS solution for the P800 (I know TomTom is coming)
Ideas for a successor of the P800:
- Improved screen (more colors)
- Improved camera
- WiFi built-in
- Radio built in
T9 and a video recording app would be nice as well :P
i think 737 touched all the missing goodies for the p800, but quiet frankly i'm getting bored w/ mine.
I'm still very excited about it, so many things to get and softwares to try and wait for. Sure, of course its the best, it is such a convinience for me that no other phone could bring except the bulk. I won't be bored until there is a better pda phone, even so, I might not switch over. 😉
Giving up on mine. Since I've had it I've never used it as my main phone, it has been unable to replace the 7650 as my main handset. Despite the advantages the p800 has, quicker camera, full Bluetooth, more memory, etc, the Nokia has usability. It has features like a working alarm with phone off, full calling profiles enhanced by programs like eprofiles pro, a better screen for viewing images (clearer) better email implementation, etc. I still have the P800 but its up for sale and I doubt it will be mine much longer. The worst thing of all is how it operates as a phone. It is very poor. Usability. No matter how many features a product of this type has, it needs to be usable.

Do you turn your phone off all the time? I never turn my phone off. I dont understand why so many are bothered by the alram not going on with the phone off. For me, its even practical, it means that I dont want to be bothered when my phone is off. There is always vibrate/silent mode, I never turn my phone off.

Exactly, goes for me as well. As long as there is nothing better on the market how can you get bored with the best!?!? 😊

I probably would 😃
Okay, I took some advice and started copying music on my 128MB mem stick duo, just to DO something with my P800 again.... AND....
The mp3 quality of the P800 is insane! Coupled with the supplied earphones, it rivals my Sony CD/MP3 walkman for top honours!!
The earphones doesn't sound much different from the Fontopias I got for my Walkman - and I paid 30 for those bad boys...
Exited?! Me Me, exited since the first glance of it...
OK - maybe not copying data across the duo everyday as I did in the early stages, but its always by my side (as most mobiles are) and a useful toy overall for almost everything needed on a daily basis... 😃
Hey, and its great to take snapshots wherever I am, maybe not in best quality, but having a cam ready in your hand is always a great deal 😉
😃
I didn't really expect to be this exited after 5 months of using the same handset(I usually change handsets way too often), but here I am, and I just started to take a closer look at the Sega Master System(SMSPlus) emulator.
The first time I tried it I kinda dismissed it right away because I though the controls would be too difficult, and it still could use great improvement, but DAMN am I having fun playing Sonic. I used to own a Sega Megadrive a long time ago(which I loved!), and playing Sonic and Streefighter 2 on the P800 really brings back memories... 😃
I'd say most of the things I wanted out of my p800 can be done now... still some minor stuf I'm waiting for.Ogg vorbis, sid and mod took care of all the music I'll ever want thanks to Nplay and oggplay
Whats missing (stuff left to be excited about)
*EscummVM with sound.
*Exult, ultima 7 part1,2 enterpeter bit like scummVM will be ported even if I'll have to do it myslef.
*Optimized emulation cpu cores. The problem is that most crossplatform/portable emu stuff is written in C.. The really fast ones like zsnes, sys16 and so on are asm that are native to the x86.
*A real media player that can take som open formats (vorbis+xvid) and is at least somewhat better optimized.
*A C/++ IDE from SE... I'm not asking for a 7cd .net edition.. but a decent frontend for say GCC with a p800 emu integrated for $30.. or free for none commercial use. That would benefit everyone as more software would be ported. the $395 instead of $1395 tag on codewarrior is a joke...
*Lemmings
*Firmwares, self flash/upgrade... comon.. this MUST be possible somehow.
*Badass batteries that last a bit longer
*Joystick/pad like all the other PDAs.. that blue plastic thing is just waitng for a replacement.
*Usefull pdf.. images render like a f*ckn' slide show.
*And the big one : Some basic LINUX support.. at least relase the specs so that someone else can do it if SE dont want to spend the time/money.
*And the dream one... bigger duo stics... I'm thinking 512Mb..
i still love my p800............. only a batt which lasted a bit longer would be nice.
I'm happier and happier, specially after R2F. I haven't even explored games yet, I've been pretty much only playing Bubblets and chess and a little tetris, but the previous post regarding Sonic and all that got my mouth watering.
I have a friend that bought a 30 Gig Ipod, I envy her but you know what? 3 times already I was in the park with her listening to music and she hadn't thought about carrying her ipod with her. Same for the camera. Sure it's not proffesional quality but it's always there and I make my wife and friends laugh a lot when I'm on tour and I keep sending them silly pictures. I LOVE it, because I don't need to carry a camera, or an Mp3 player. If i know I'm going to be on a bus for 6 hours sure I'll bring a cd player. Or I'll bring a camera if I know I'll need it, but for those moments when you're suddenly having lunch in the park...priceless.
i would love Video Recording, an Office documents editor and it would be great to have an integrated radio. I really don't know why on earth they would have an MP3 Stereo phone and not add a Radio...
I only got mine for little more than 1 month (as the Chinese version of P800 only available at early April in Hong Kong). I'm still very excited about it and I think I would be evenly excited in the coming ONE year. 😃
How do I know? Because P800 has combined all the computing features in true mobility form. I used to have a T68 and Palm m505. However, in less than 1 month, I found that the combination is too heavy for me. Eventhough I would like to have both devices on hand, I abandoned Palm because I usually don't carry any bags on the road.
Now, P800's weight is just right (even lighter than my Motorola MicroTac some 5 years ago :P ). In one device, I can all business info I need on the road plus camera, and MP3. What's more should I look for?
I loved my T68 for some 15 months eventhough I already know and see the P800 prototype at the very beginning from Ericsson. Now, I don't even see any compatiable device that looks better than P800.
I'm pretty sure that I'll have the same excitement for my P800 in a year's time.
