Not impressed

My first impressions of the 6600...

1) No FM radio/stereo - my gf's 7210 has this, it's a very neat feature which would have cost bugger all to implement. Very dissapointed it wasn't included.

2) Camera resolution stays the same - hanging out to see a pic taken with the camera, although I can't see it being much better than the 3650 is at the moment :x I thought a flash would have been a great inclusion (even if it had limited range)...

3) Design - not impressed, it looks boring to me. It's another example of building a middle of the road design to try and cater for everybody. Doesn't work on me. Nokia went out on a limb with the 3650 and maybe it didn't work so well for them so they've fallen back on 'bland'. No xpress on covers again mean that if it gets scratched it's $$$ at the nsc to get the cover replaced. The phone still looks like a toy. I would have liked to see it looking more 'corporate' which the 7650 does very well.

This phone has very little at all over the 7650 (apart from mmc), and I would venture to say nothing (hard to guage the os7 advantage) over the SX1.

Siemens still look to be the ones getting the money when I replace my 7650. Let's just hope this isn't the only symbian phone from nokia this year! Although I fear that this one being pushed at the corporate end of the user scale, the n-gage might be their 'youth' phone for this year :x

Finally a question - has anybody seen what spec the processor in the 6600 is? Faster than the 3650? As I understand this to be the limiting factor in the quality of video recording?

1- That may be a "wanted" feature for many people, but not for all, certainly. I prefer spending my batteries life playing games, using apps, taking pics, etc, rather than using radio, but hey.. I give you that point. Still.. no 6xxx has radio, right?

2-Yeah. What can I say?

3-I think the design of this nokia is superb! It's more oval shape and it's getting each time closer to the 3g nokia prototypes (nothing to do with 6650). I know that you're right saying that without x press on covers ,we can't change it when scratched. I support you 100%, but as Nokia said, this is a business phone, so x press on covers wouldn't give money to nokia, since most of the business man wouldn't buy iy excdept to change a scratched case.

I do believe that this phone is not little, but very, superior to 7650. There are lots of new features, some of them we don't even realise, at least i hope, like the themes, smil, etc.

And by the way.. I s SX1 x press covered? I don't know, I'm just asking.. and what about the camera? better resolution?? and the design? Isn't it a bit akward too??

Cheers

Nokia 6510 has a mono radio and Nokia 6610 has a stereo radio. They aren't, of course, Series 60 / Symbian devices, and are thus meant for totally different kind of use.

You're correct that it's not a feature everybody would want, but for those who do it would be good to have it available, considering it would not have cost much at all to include it.

I really don't care what the 3g phones look like or how this one is shaped like them. I don't like the oval, I think it almost looks like a frisbee/toy. As you say it is aimed at the business man - who would want to be seen with a toy phone?
I also beg to differ on the business man buying express on covers. I am one myself, and would definitely buy the covers for a more personal/professional look depending on my situation. I used to always change the cover of my 3210 come the weekend - from black/silver (professional) to something brighter/flashy for partying etc 😊
Of course, 3650 owners should love the shape as it's smaller and a lot less 'out there' 😉

You're correct the SX1 is not press covered either, but in it's standard guise presents a more professional looking phone (in my opinion).

Camera resolution had not been announced last I heard... someone else may know more about it...

As for awkward, definitely no more so than the 3650, and the buttons beside the screen actually give a lot more options to the ui.

The 6600 has it over the 7650 naturally (memory being the number one feature I would say), but it only comes close and does not quite match the SX1 in terms of features. So the SX1 is still my best bet as a replacement for 7650.

u mean the features from out of the box or feature that we can get from 3rd parties

cos these two is 2 different category

with symbian 7.0 and series 50 V 2.0 there r a lot that V 1.x cannot do

if out of the box then yes SX-1 rules

Yeah, thats pity but who would buy those addon radio's/MP3 players from Nokia, if they would've add the MP3 player/radio to every phone?

Of course it's same, because it has same VGA-camera. Hopefully it has a better lens than N3650.

I'm gonna wait for those megapixel camera's to come on phones. I know Asia already has such phones.

I'm not 100% sure, but i think it's either 152MHz or 204MHz AMR.

If anyone ever wants to send a text (and we all do) they cannot buy an SX1, the keypad is just plain stupid!
I shall be upgrading my 7650 to 6600, not an sx1.

I gotta say I'm not impressed but I think it's because I'm still waiting for the SUPER MEGA STILISH PORTABLE USER-FRIENDLY COMPACT LIGHT S60 PHONE from Nokia. I think I should not have such high standards....

Its just a matter of time, you will get used to it, in any way it looks nicer and seems easier to use the N3650
Nokia 6510 has a mono radio and Nokia 6610 has a stereo radio.
Also stereo FM Radion in the 6800.

From a news story on InfoSync World about the 6600:

Including the Nokia 6600, Nokia will be offering four devices based on its Series 60 by the end of 2003

Now I don't know if that means four new devices, or whether that includes the 7650 and 3650, but either way it means at least one more before the end of the year, which I guess is going to be the non-business version of the 6600.

And the smart guys that they are they will probably announce that device after the 6600 will have sold pretty well already. Of cource that leaves them very little time to do marketing and get the hype up... then again who knows what they will do.
The fourth is the N-Gage!
Doh! Forgot that one.

Oh well. Not sure the 6600 is for me anyway, looks nice but I don't need half the features! Will have to see what is around when my current 12 month contract runs out in November.
