According to Mobil.se Sony Ericsson going to launch a new communicator after the summer, with better camera and screen.

Hey for those who cant read in swedish, i'll try to translate it.

The P 810 is going to get a better screen and camera.

The camera will have 1,3 million megapixel.

The resolution is going from 640 X 480 to 1280 X 1024

The date for this Phone/pda is set to be after summer (late summer)

SONYERICSSON belives that the T 610(great phone) and the P800/P810 is gonna be a turnpoint for the slow sale.

so you want them to out i a new camera and a better screen in your P800? I bet they going to use a 65.000 screen color.

If SE release a new phone that quickly, they'll stop releasing updates + patches for our beloved P800. I hope that doesn't happen!!!

They'll have to sort out the supply of high capacity MS Duo's before they upgrade the camera like that. You're not going to be able to fit many shots at that resolution in 28MB of memory space.

Maybe the facelift could have not been done through firmware upgrades. On the other hand any physical system board changes requires a model # change. With that said they will have to seize all production of the P800 and discontinue the model. So I gather they will look similar with minor tweaks on the shell casing such as the T68 to T68i migration.

These rumours are coming from a site that is well known for doing just that - spreading rumours. I wouldn't take these "news" seriously.

And if it would turn out to be true, a simple firmware upgrade to the P800 is out of the question, the changes lies in the hardware.

Mobil.se is the same site that told us the P800 would get an upgrade to UIQ 2.1. They are not to be trusted. They only seem to be concerned about being THE FIRST to publish something, neglecting to do any proper research/check the sources first.

Just found this pic which is supposed to be the new P810:

But I think it's a fake, and not really taken by ThreeGMobile.net either.

I think it looks quite good though.. 😊

It s logic that SE upgrade the P800 to P810, After Nokia unveils the 6600,
The improvement are good, however I kept my p800
and wont change it until major upgrade (Wifi, CPU, Memory, UMTS)

I think the Picture is fake as well. Especially the "Sony-key" in the middle! SE ditched that button a long time ago!

Sure it's logical that SE will release a successor to the P800 eventually, but hardly because of Nokia announcing the 6600 - they are not in the same league/aimed at the same market segment. And I won't believe any of this untill it's confirmed by SE themselves, or perhaps from a reliable site.

For me, the design looks like female model like Samsung T400 and T500. Just from P800/P802 to P810 also it sounds a lot of improvement if it is true. Hope SE will give us a chance to ex-change the built-in camera with reasonable cost.

Threegmobile already stated that that p810 pic is FAKE. Sleep well guys.

Still.. in mobil.se there's some news about a nokia device, but I don't speak sweddish (if so i would have better summers... 😉) so I can't know for sure what it is!

That damn P810 photo is undoubtedly fake and they even named the file as P200.

I brought the phone just less than 1 month ago....if SE launch that P810 this Autumn and forsake P800 .... I will send them to heXX

why? so someone brings out something new, doesn't mean you HAVE to have it.
I mean look at all the other equipment you might have. Do you change your stereo when Naim bring out a new one? Do we even own the best stereos, tv's, cameras, fridges, cookers etc? I think not. So why with phones MUST you have the latest and jazzyest. If it is a significant upgrade to your existing one, go ahead and buy it, if it is similar and you miss out on a few minor differences, so what?
This is what companies thrive on, the ability to change your mind!

Given SE's track record on the P800, I'd say any successor is 18 months away. I'll be ready to drop another $600 by then.

The news about the P 810 should be valid..

I found the story on a Swedish news papers homepage.

I can't imagine SE releasing a new mobile, if they haven't even fixed the faults and software of the P800!

For example - I think we're all still waiting for decent sync software, that doesn't take 50MB of your pc's memory when you sync your phone with your pc. It's appalling, to say the least.

Fazer,

First of all, that article is fairly old, almost 4 MONTHS.

Second, it doesn't mention any information AT ALL about the features of this alleged P810, which goes to show that since Mobil.se are basing their "news" on an article from Svd, they must be making everything else up. Mobil.se actually says that their article is based on an interview with Carl-Henrik Svanberg in Svd TODAY, but I searched Svd and the only article to mention a P810 is the one you posted here(dated the 3'rd of March), and the most recent article to even mention the P800 dates back to the 8'th of April...

It will happen one day...but not at the end of the summer. Why release at the end of the summer when it's off season and not wait for XMAS? Why do we even dream that the actually would release it so soon when it took them a year to release the P800?

Why do we believe that a new model will share P8** name?, I mean releasing a P810 is like admitting the P800 is obsolete, while releasing a P900 would just give the market a choice of more or less advanced gadget with a few hundred dollar difference between them. This way they can sell both rather than having to shelf every P800 in the world market. This is simple marketing.

But let's face it, sooner or later we will not have the latest and most advanced gadget in the market.

if that's the case i think it's time for us to sell or very young P800 phones and wait for the new one. i think SE will not release a new model right away. let's wait for next year.

Accela - the point of a "minor" difference is that it is "minor" and therefore makes very little difference to the phone. If the difference is "minor" why change? If it is "major", for sure go ahead and upgrade.

Point is, I could have changed my phone come last december, I was bored of my old one, thrashed all the features and couldn't take it any further. But all the phones on the market had minor differences (colour screen or polyphonics or mms etc). So I decided that to wait until something significantly different came out. Hence my acceptance of the delay on the P800.

Still, each to his own eh?

you can bluetooth files between the two - get a little phone network going - cool, think i'll get one now lol
