Which man with a double-barrelled surname is usually given credit for "Inventing" the Internet? (I am only saying given credit not that I think he did invent!)

Ooooh, JV. How rude? A coilover is a vitally important part of a formula one stock car (John Lund and, once upon a time, me) suspension. You can call me all sorts of things, but boy racer? Pleeeeeeeze. I had some of the greatest times of my life building and racing these cars and it is a really good, fun, working-class sport. This coming Sunday, the "boy racers" will be making a rare visit to Wimbledon. Although it is unlikely to be a great meeting, perhaps I should meet you there and show you what it's all about? No. You will think it's like watching paint dry!

I like motor racing (mainly Grand Prix though) but I have very little interest in the building of the cars. 😛

Gadget, I have no idea who you mean, but I bet Ewan does!

1944 (Helen Duncan)

Notre Dame cathedral first started being built in 1015. When did they add the spire to complete the building?

The restoration work that included designing a spire was begun in 1844 and lasted 23 years.

On the same theme, who invented Quasimodo?

According to the source I found on Google, there wasn't a spire until the resoration. Several other sources I found listed completely different start-dates for the original construction. Looks like there's no one definitive information source on this.

OK, I agree that there maybe more than one answer on this!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame was written by Victor Hugo!

Alfred Noble of the "Noble Peace Prize" fame was also responsible for inventing something else can you name the invention?

that would be dynamite. the link to peace is that dynamite was considered such a powerful thing that no man would use it against his fellow man, thus causing peace to break out. sadly idealistic...

how do pencil manufacturers get the graphite into the middle of the wood?

User posted image
1. Incense-cedar logs are cut into "Pencil Blocks."

2. Pencil Blocks are cut into "Pencil Slats."

3. Pencil Slats are treated with wax and stain.

4. A machine cuts grooves into the slats to accept the writing core (or "lead"😉.

5. Writing cores -- made from a mixture of graphite and clay -- are placed into the grooves.

6. A second grooved slat is glued onto the first -- making a "sandwich."

7. The sandwich is machined into pencil shapes.

8. Individual pencils are cut from the sandwich, and are sanded smooth.

9. Each pencil is painted. A recess is cut to accept the ferrule (the metal ring that holds the eraser to the pencil).

10. A ferrule and eraser are crimped into place on each pencil.

Hope this is Right! 😃

Who was Originally cast as Indiana Jones for Raiders of the Lost Ark (but had to pull out due to commitments)?

Wing Co Guy Gibson of 617 Squadron... now known as the Dambusters 😊 On May 16th 1943 he led 19 modified Lancaster bombers on "Operation Chastise" and successfully destroyed the Mohne Dam with the bouncing bomb.

How did the bouncing bomb work?

The cylindrical bombs, that spun at 500 rpm, were dropped by Guy Gibson and the 617 Squadron at a height of 60 feet and at a speed of 240 miles an hour. The rotating bomb skipped over the water and exploded while sinking to the base of the retaining wall of the dam. The bombing produced heavy floods and badly damaged German production in the Ruhr.

3 Question to answer about Nokia (all related)

The world's first portable NMT car telephone, the Nokia Talkman. (1984)

The world's first NMT handportable, the Nokia Cityman. (1987)

I can't find any prices for them though... and in which country do you mean?

The Talkman weighed 4.8kg. (about 10 1/2lb) and cost 3,000. Battery life was less than a day between charges. It gave one hour of call time.

The Cityman cost 2750

hhhmmm wat to ask - just an easy one tell me how a plasma tv works

Plasma technology is different from that used in other display systems in that red, green and blue lights are created in every pixel, reducing the need for space. Charged electrodes between glass panels cause tiny pockets of inert gas to change a state of plasma. This process causes UV light to be produced, which in turn reacts with the red, green, and blue phosphors in each pixel to produce visible light.

Unlike traditional displays, where the image is scanned across the screen, in plasma displays all pixels are "lit" at once. Having no electron beam, back lighting or light polarization, the image is inherently sharper and brighter. Perfect from edge to edge

What is Plasma?

Plasma is an electrically neutral, highly ionized substance composed of ions, electrons, and neutral particles. Plasma contains almost equal numbers of free electrons and positive ions. In a plasma the electrons have been stripped away from the central nucleus. Therefore, a plasma consists of a sea of ions and electrons and is a very good conductor of electricity and is affected by magnetic fields. Electrons are separated from their respective nucleus when enough heat is applied
