How long you willing to wait?

Right, I just phoned Sendo's UK office (+44(0)1212515000) and asked when the Sendo X will be in the shops. The lady at the other end said that they have not set a firm date yet, but said it will probably be end of April.... End Of April!!!!

I think those that are talking about 2 weeks or so, and not giving any source for this date, appear to be very wrong.

Did you specify the UK?

It could be out in other countries before that. Earlier in this thread Spain was quoted as being the first place to get them. Look at how long its taken the SX1 to officially come to the UK.

If Sendo ship in the next couple of weeks to the distributors and to the network operators, actually having them in the shops at the end of April (in sufficient numbers) is probably about right, although I would have expected shops to have them in the shops within a couple of weeks (but not in sufficient numbers - and they will probably be filling backorders for the first week or two).

In which case, both statements are compatible, and the woman from Sendo is probably just setting the expectation at the right level.

Either that, or they're delayed again 😞

i think it is a bit poor of Sendo not to put a release statement on their web site. that way everyone will know the truth. they said they were going to do this weeks ago 😞

Today Motorola has annouced 3 new GSM music phones. It is sad that Sendo X has not been out in the market yet as many newcomers start to promote their new products.

One of the music phones which I think it is comparable with X

E680: New Linux OS, QVGA touchscreen, Bluetooth, MP3 playback, SD card slot, VGA camera, MPEG4 video, RealPlayer, Java, 3D graphics, "3D" stereo speakers.

What do you think about this phone? Only drawback is the Linux OS.

I can confirm as stated earlier that full-scale production is starting and the X will be in Spain through Telefonica before the end of the month

So, jarold, 'fess up. Do you work for Sendo? And if not, how do you end up with the inside knowledge and first-hand experience?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Well, some of the comments in this thread must have made uncomfortable reading. Best of luck with a swift and painless rollout.
Which office, just out of interest? I'm a Brit, based in Cambridge.

What about the UK? When can we buy one here, on a network or contract free?

Sendo only have one office, our HQ is in Birmingham, near the airport.

As for the UK, I'm afraid I have no news on that; Spain with Telefonica is first out of the gate and then depending on how that goes (from the customer/distributor/network) other countries will follow.

We are gearing up the support infrastructure now.

I've seen a lot of comments re delays on the Sendo X. There has never been a 'firm' release date, when people have posted that the phone has slipped again they are basing this on dates quoted by resalers who are basing their dates on best guesses. The phone was announced on October 21st and in most cases products announced tend to come to market around 3 months after announcement, in this case it has been a little longer but the product is a lot more complicated than most.

Please bear with us

As someone who works in the IT industry I can sympathise. It is very hard to put accurate estimates on how long integration/bug fixing is going to take, even for very simple products. The only safe thing to do is to wait until the product is ready for sale (or at least volume manufacturing) before announcing it. This is what some companies do (Apple springs to mind), but they sell to end users.

Dealing with networks who like plenty of time to gear up to a launch, it is probably in a manufacturers interests to get a certain amount of buzz going before the product hits the shelves. So they're then faced with two options: pick what seems like a sensible data, publish it, and hope you don't slip, or adopt the id Games approach - we'll release it when it's ready.

When it comes to release dates, you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

(Just my opinion).

I hate to be picky (Oh not I dont 😉) but the original press release published last year it said "Sendo expects to ship the phone in some territories before the end of the year". Although I accept that that is not a firm commitment, I think its where people perception of its lateness comes from.

Anyway its good news that its coming out soon and I'm sure Expansys will get some (probably expensive) units for sale in the UK before the official release. Lets just hope its as good as its hyped up to be 😊

personally i dont mind if it is delayed a bit, especially if it means there will be a lot less bugs (unlike the 6600 maybe!?)
BUT, i think they should have kept potential buyers informed of the delays and revised dates etc.
I know a number of people have got hacked off with not knowing what is going on

does anyone know if only the carbon-fibre effect version will be available or the aluminum edged one as well? and why on earth did they change it!?

Anyone know the latest on FCC authorization in U.S. for the Sendo X? Can you give me a estimate on when it will be released in U.S.?

Sendo's site says
"In the USA, the Sendo X phone has not yet been authorised as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This product is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, unless and until authorisation is obtained. "

i have just come back fron spain today... and while i was there i popped into the mobile shop telefonica and asked about the sendo x suprise suprise they dont know anything about it coming out i even had to tell them what it looked like, and they spoke english and my other half speaks spanish so we could not go wrong

I'm not working at telefonica.
They don't have in their lists this model, but I received an e-mail from Sendo last week telling me that Telefonica-Movistar is going to release the Sendo X because they are already making some tests in order to launch the movile.

I checked fcc page and it seens sendo x hasnt got that authorization yet.

I can see authorization for sendo 100, 331, 251 and 551.

Maybe its the real delay reason

from another forum.....

This has been passed on from our good friend at Sendo...

Thanks for your email. First of all, you will be able to download software updates or fixes. Secondly, to quote your own statement, you do not want to buy a phone that crashes and we do not want to sell one.

Allow me to explain why it is difficult to give a precise introduction date. Smartphones are very complicated products, which comprise many different software modules (the basic phone stack, the operating system, the user interface, various third party applications etc.). All this software has to work seamlessly and without glitches. On top of this, the phone needs to work on network infrastructures of more than 600 operators. All these operators have different base stations, different switches etc. and they do not all interpret the GSM/GPRS standard in the same way. This means that testing and solving software issues can take a long time. We are making very good progress and we are confident that we will ship the Sendo X in the near future.

With regard to the article on the 'engadget' website. First of all, I do not know this journalist or analyst. I am therefore surprised to read that he has had bad experiences with Sendo. We are in contact with more than 3,500 journalists and analysts and I can assure you that I cannot find this gentleman in my database. With respect to the crashing of the phones, I cannot comment on this since I do not know what happened and how he and his friend were using the phone. I do know that most of our internal users do not have this experience. Also, I checked with some journalists that got early versions and they did not experience this.

Again, we will ship the phone when it is ready. We feel that that is more important than shipping it early.

Hope this answers your questions.

Best regards,

Marijke

Anyone seen the May issue of Stuff magazine? The model on the front is clearly holding the Sendo X yet there's no mention of it inside!! strange dont u think?? this phone isnt gonna b out for a while by the looks of things.

Ive waited since December for the Sendo X to turn up in the UK and finally gave up and got a 6600. Hardly much improvement over my old 7650 but that was falling apart. Maybe Ill catch the Sendo X II, if they ever get a phone to market 🙄

Isn't that just the way with rumours 🙄 But then rumours is the way with new phone releases these days 😉

I'd like to once more add my opinion that this phone is worth waiting for. I've had quite a long play with (and this was some time ago) and I found it quite stable. I have to say I somewhat suprised about how long things are taking, but I haven't got a 6600 because I want an X.
