I made my first MMS, but when I went to insert a sound clip, I can not select any midi file... Can I insert midis as sound clips? Or can I send only .arm files?
About MMS
Unfortunately you can only send amr files.. neither midi nor wav will do. Although the T68i can send "songs" in the imy format which is not recognized by the 7650.
Thanks for your reply! I thought that it was possible to send polyphonic ringtones via MMS...
i don't know if we change the midi/wav to amr ext using efile/seleq and placed them in the correct direct will trick the phone in believing that the file is actually amr file and proceed to send. While receiving party have to convert back to midi/wav. Maybe someone with MMS service want to try this. My telco currently don't provide MMS services, so, i can't try.
It doesnt work... 😞 You can not select the "converted" file...
I suppose you will need a specific program to convert midi or wav to arm...
Sending MMS would be fun ... but I actually dont know anybody who has a MMS-handy too ... and it doesnt work to other countries, not even to other phone providers in my own country. Anybody here with an Austrian A1-handy?
hi, manowar. Quite odd that u say can't select 'converted' file. I tried and i was able to select the 'converted' file from midi/wav. For example, test.wav/test.mid to test.amr, I was able to select test.amr but I can't try with MMS until my telco provide this service. Any other member from here tried?
I renamed a midi file to .amr and tried to send a mms with it, didn't work. The phone checks the file, not only the extension. one of the points they should fix in the next software version since the phone recognizes so many formats, and even can receive em via email let's say. So why the damn HELL can't it send those files back but only amr.
it is able to received midi/wav files thru mail. I hav tried and works.
Could it be that the sw is trying to stop you sending 'ring tones' from one device to another. Given the Telcos derive so much money from them, my guess is that they insisted that the sw platform should disable this feature until more exotic Digital Rights Management soln is available.
Just a guess tho

This is the reason. Protecting the multi billion euro business. I am not guessing.
can i still use mms if i'm not using gprs
My understanding is that MMS is service that relates to sending multi-media messages ... as such I would have thought it is independent of the transfer protocol - GPRS is a packet switching mechanism, but the same net effect should be possible with circuit switch approaches.
What does all that mean - well probably you need to ask your Operator. When I was tlaking to T-Mobil in the UK they seemed to imply that their MMS service was the only thing they had implemented that used their GPRS capability (which they have yet to launch as a standalone service).
I am sure someone else more technically capable will give us a definitive answer.
