ANYONE HAVE A MSI BLUETOOTH DONGLE?

40 replies · 5,690 views · Started 23 September 2002

If you do - have you managed to transfer files from your 7650 to computer via it?

I can transfer files from my comp to the phone, but not the other way round 😞 😞 😞

Thanks

I have an MSI bluetooth dongle!

Sending from the phone to the PC does not work for me!

Everything else works fine!

What are the chances of us putting our minds together and sorting this out! :P

Because the item is listed as a "Bluetooth tranciever" does that mean it can only send data?

I dug around on the 'net and found some info on your problem.

Go to the bluetooth menu and pair the two devices (PC & 7650) now try and transfer. It should work.

If you still have problems, select the PC from the list of paired devices on the 7650 and select 'set as authorised.'

This is a complete shot in the dark but...

Are there any security settings in the MSi software? If so you may want to lower the level of security. This fixed a problem I had with a 3com BT card.

Hope it helps

THat was my other guess, but the prob is, MSI only has MEDIUM and HIG security levels, no LOW one 😞

Yes! I am downloading them! I tell you if it works even thoug they say that they fixed a bug in win98 setup! We will se in a mo!

Lookin into that now 😉

just found this on a T68 (boo 😊 ) forum - I think it's stuff you know but i'll post it just in case:

After installing the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website, it's time to pair your phone and your PC.

Pairing is important since the default security level is set to medium. At this level, passwords for services can be configured before they are allowed to proceed. (By pairing devices, you dont have to enter the access information everytime you have to connect your devices.)

How to Pair Devices
Right-click on the the bluetooth icon on your system tray, select Setup>Security.

Your device will now search for devices within range which has been set to discoverable.

Enter the passkey when asked for in your PC and in your phone.

After the software installation, you will have 11 Bluetooth Com Ports (Virtual Com Ports (VCP)). You can find this info in your Device Manager.

Having those 11 Com ports doesnt mean that you can already use them. A few extra steps will have to be done.

On your desktop (or by opening your Windows Explorer) you will find
My Bluetooth Places. From My Bluetooth places, double-click on the Add Bluetooth Connection Wizard which will help you set-up the services that you want to use.

As an example, we will create a dedicated VCP for use of FMA (Float's Mobile Agent).

From the service drop down box, select Bluetooth Serial Port. From the device list, select your phone (which is probably the only device there for now).

You can choose to encrypt the communication between devices by checking the "Require secure encrypted communication". This is checked by default. Click on next.

This time, you will be required to select from a list of the particular service that you want to use with your phone. There would be two in this case: Serial Port 1 and Serial Port 2.

Let us select Serial Port 2. Click on OK.

Now you can name the Connection. You can make it as descriptive as you like so that there would be minimal confusion (ie. Kulas' T39 VCP for FMA).

You also have an option of selecting a particular device as the default device for the connection. Click on Finish.

From your My Bluetooth Places you will now see a new shortcut for the connection (VCP) you just made. You may click on its properties to change it's name and the port number that it uses.

Now to finish our example, I have modified the property of my new connection to use Com Port 4. I then modified my FMA setup to use the Serial Port number 4, with the highest possible speed. FTS and DTR is disabled.

Making other connections follows, more or less, the same procedure.

I hope this helps.

Male Buffy -

Try this software, then get back to me: http://download.msi.com.tw/support/swr_exe/Bluetooth_mo.exe

(made my MSI for mobiles/bluetooth connectivity)

I've been looking for a solution to this for a while, version 1.2.2.15 (latest) of the MSI software still doesn't resolve the issue. Apparently the problem is that the 7650 uses "OBEX push" to send files and the current bluetooth stack from Widcomm doesn't allow for this. Someone on another board said that MSI are resolving this in V1.3

So for now it looks like it's not possible

If anyone knows different then please post the config that you use instead of just posting "It works for me" (This caused a bit of an argument on another thread but the bloke was "unable" to post his config so I guess he was just being a muppet)

I tried the bluetooth_mo software but still nothing! it is program like Nokia PC Suite that supports the 7650 and the T68i! Does not work for me!

I have a similar problem but mine is an Epox bluetooth. I believe they are the same cos it is also an Widcomm programme... also verison 1.2.x However I managed to get it to work, but only for a couple of minute, then the connection get lost again. What I did was connecting the phone via different methods eg Fax, dialup etc and it will say connected... for a few minute, then the mrouter will also recognise the phone and that's when you can use Nokia suite. Howver it doesn't work all the time.

When I try to connect as bluetooth serial port, it will give some error and say remoter server disconnect... ie Nokia doesn't like my bluetooth dongle. I hope you are right about that push thing... let's hope v1.3 is coming out soon.

Another problem I have, which you guys/gals may be able to solve, is that the bluetooth install uses up all the com ports. From 5-14. And my internal modem which I think uses comm3, doesn't work when the bluetooth is installed. It is a Creative 56k int modem. Any idea?

Adrian

is there ANYONE who ever sucessfully transferred a file from the PHONE TO PC using bluetooth ? i never read it here. I guess all people have the same problems BUT using the PC Suite it works in both ways since you can up/download pictures from/to the phone. So what is the conclusion ? Either the software of the 7650 is buggy or nokia doesn't tell us everything i guess. Same here, i can do just about everything but i CAN'T just send any files from the phone to pc using the "Send via" feature...

The 3CREB96

got it from www.inmac.co.uk - cheapest palce but still not cheap

The only problems I had were with PC Suite

- the send from PC-Phone or Phone-PC worked as soon as I plugged it in.

If anyone knows different then please post the config that you use instead of just posting "It works for me" (This caused a bit of an argument on another thread but the bloke was "unable" to post his config so I guess he was just being a muppet)

Wahchild: Dude, which part of this did you not understand? Care to shed any light on what your config is? As far as I know (and this topic was discussed at length recently on alt.cellular.nokia or maybe my-7650.talk.english on news.my-communicator.com can't remember which) the 3com uses the Widcomm stack at version 1.2.x.x and Widcomm's official line is that it won't be possible until version 1.3.x.x!

Hey, all I know is that it worked straight away - I'll see what I can dig out.

I've only had it a week or two, but the drivers date back to july this year, so it ain't a new version.

This is from the About menu from the software - only 3com's version numbers only

Bluetooth Connection Manager Version 1.1.28.4

Bluetooth Stack Version 1.0.30.6

Bluetooth API Version 1.0.30.1

Bluetooth OBEX1 Version 1.0.30.0

Bluetooth OBEX2 Version 1.0.30.0

Bluetooth Object Push Version 1.0.30.0

I've got it paired.

running on Windows XP HE

That's all I can say really...

Nice one Wahchild; I reckon it must have something to do with the OBEX.

Your 3com has OBEX1 and OBEX2, the MSI only allows you to add one type of OBEX port.

Hmmmm, the plot thickens, I guess 3com doesn't use Widcomm software, you have my apologies.

I reckon you're right:

http://www.widcomm.com/Partners/currentPartners.asp

This has TDK, MSI and Tecom in widcomm's list of partners - but not 3com

I would guess the new Tecom Bluetooth USB won't work with the 7650 as well

I have the MSI Bluetooth tranciever. Can it do a fax machine on phone to PC just like a fax modem?

I have been playing it around for the past 1 month since I bought it.

I don't get it...

OBex push and all that... I managed to send file from PC to phone but not vice versa. It has Obex push... but it can't pull? I does connect as fax, but can't connect as serial port?

Also Widcomm.com site must be outdated cos my Epox uses the same software...

WTF!
