In your local Nokia Service Centre.
Nokia 6600 NEW firmware v 5.27.0
I went into my local service centre today and they told me that they would have to have the phone for two days, I thought that was a long time until I read through the thread and saw Carphone Warehouse were saying upto 2 weeks.
I understand it shouldn't take even two days, I can upgrade the firmware on my mp3 player, dvd writer and cd writer, in less than 10 minutes. Although with the 6600 they have to disassemble it slightly first. They all put it down to fitting it in during their busy schedules. It is frustrating though.
Doing one phone doesn't take more than a few minutes, but they presumably have other jobs to do before that & don't want anybody that walks in get ahead (and thus delaying then other customers that brought/sent their devices before you).
If they took your phone, and immediately after that ten new customers walked in just after you, before they could start working on your phone, would you like them to service those ten customers before you, even if you were there first? 😉

I notice your location is listed as the UK. Are you sure you are getting 5.27 ? I didn't think it was released in the UK yet. If it is that's great news. :Fingers crossed smiley:

I haven't actually put the phone in yet, I need to take some details from the wallet, but when I went in and asked what version they told me 5.27, I said good as that fixes the BT ringing problems. They also told me not worth bothering with the update if I only had 4.09 as not that much had changed. As I have Orange 3.49 I will probably go through with it, though I will have to put up with a 3510 for two days. 😡
One thing I will miss if I upgrade is not having the simple ogg controller for my ring tones, but having to install the larger oggplay.
If you don't wan't oggplay application, you always can erase it afterward.
Removing the directory "system\apps\oggplay" will do the trick. The ogg decoder will stay installed to your phone. The ogg decoder should have same size as the light symbian ogg vorbis controller.
And with Oggplay 1.6.1, you get the vibration working fine together with ogg ringing tones on any 6600 firmware...
The 1.6.1 release can be downloaded from : http://sourceforge.net/projects/symbianoggplay
OggPlay homepage: http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/
Thanks Bertq60.
jazzy1,like i've said before, boosting your post count with useless posts such as this one won't get you anywhere.
If i see any more thanks post you will be banned.
I had the firmware for my 6600 upgraded in an authorised Nokia service point in Netherlands. If your phone is still under the warranty you do not have to pay anything, it is free of charge. I left my phone and picked it up after an hour. So i do not understand why the 2 weeks waiting for some people that wanted to upgrade their firmware :con?
Basically it is the company getting their branches to send the phones to a central point and doing the upgrades there, so the volume of phones going through the centre for upgrades, servicing etc plus the posting time just adds up. IThe one I inquired at was just a small company who had their own technician, still will take two days though, they are either busy or lazy 😃
Or it could be a case of them having to source the relevant equipment from the nearest nsc?
Maybe not all the NSC have the relevant equipment then cause in my case it only took an hour.
Exactly. 😊
well im glad i was in the "within an hour" category cause cant miss my phone for a day, its my job tool! nokia should equip all their service centres...they can not give such long upgrade lead times!

Is there any serious flaw on the most current firmware?
Yokster wrote:Is there any serious flaw on the most current firmware?
I just got my phone back after 4 weeks in store :con? No idea why it took so long. It was running firmware 3.something or the other and was kinda flakey. Since it was still under warantee, I sent it back to them *knowing* that they'll just upgrade the firmware and send it back to me. 4 weeks later!!!
Other than the bad customer service I got, 5.27.0 seems to be fine. Will let you guys know if i run into some serious trouble.
Cheers
T
For any Singaporeans here, just to let you know that 5.27 is out in Singapore Nokia Care Centres too! 😊
Seems most of the 6600 forums are out of the USA, so I grab what info I can here. I emailed Nokia USA regarding a firmware update & got this in response....
We appreciate your inquiry regarding where you may obtain a firmware upgrade for your Nokia 6600 phone. We are happy to assist you by providing the following information.
Software updates are only implemented when it is determined an existing issue on your Nokia 6600 phone can be corrected with a new version of software. Software versions are not updated to add a new feature to an existing Nokia phone.
If you feel there may be a concern with your Nokia 6600 phone, you may have the phone evaluated by a Nokia service technician.
Of course, this was from an "E-Mail Specialist". Should I try going through my service provider (T-Mobile)? I'm wondering why Nokia developed newer Firmware than the 4.09.1 I have if NOT due to existing issues. Isn't that the point of firmware updates?
My thread:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/29722/
The phone and headset do produce sound at the same time - but i have not figured out a way to turn this off!
The problem with this feature now is - if your phone profile is on silent - everything is silent; including your bluetooth headset - stupid update if you ask me.
I thought this was a problem at first, but maybe its meant to be functional - who knows.
But the update does make my headset beep far too much - before it used to beep when the headset would connect to the phone, and when it would disconnect - now it beeps around 6-7 times while just trying to voice-dial!
I have included the problem in my thread above.
Why can't the firmware be a DIY at home? i have just got the 6600, and have found it very very slow to boot up is this a common issue or is it just me?
kian wrote:Why can't the firmware be a DIY at home?It can. Some manufacturers already do so (e.g., Siemens SX1 or Sendo X are such phones). Nokia doesn't. At least not yet, but maybe in the future they will, too. Time will tell.
