Bugs, bugs and more bugs?

After a LONG wait for a UK network to take on the Sendo X I decided to import one from France via Pixmania. To cut a long story short it arrived yesterday and I loved it, but after my first full day with it, I can see why British networks are seemingly reluctant to release the thing. Was it tested it all before release?!

-The alarm doesn't go off if the phone is on silent. Result; I was late for work this morning by an hour.

-The handset doesn't vibrate... at all!

-The phone freezes oh... every 10 minutes. Try sending an SMS, backing out to the Now! screen while the message is sent and watch the handset either crawl slower than a disabled sloth on sedatives or if you're lucky, it'll freeze up completely for a good minute or to. Fan-blummin'-tastic.

-Battery died on me at 2.21pm after 15 minutes of Java gaming, 20 minutes of calls and about 8 sms.

I want to like this phone, I really do. The things it does do, it does very well, but my god is it full of bugs. Its like i'm using a pre-production handset.

Firstly the reason why it isn't out in the UK networks is that it hasn't even been released in the UK yet. So even if the networks wanted it they could not have them yet. I think Sendo will release it in the UK after the next FW update.

The phone does vibrate if you select silent alert. Sadly it only vibrates on incoming calls at the moment. In next FW it will also vibrate for messages.

My messages send instantly so I wouldn't know about it going in the background. But in general the phone is stable and fast.

I don't know why people complain about its battery. Mine is so good. It completely outperforms my brothers SX1. Sounds like your battery is not calibrated. Somewhere on this forum it says how to do this.

I think that is a bit extreme saying its like a pre-production model. I thought it was very good, with room for improvement.

yes, please stop trippin' dude. NExt firmware release will resolve all the small bugs you talk about.

and sry, why put it on silent if you need an alarm ? lol

I leave it on silent at night so I can sleep, the alarm wakes me up in the morning. I don't turn it off at night because;

A) I use it as a clock if I wake up in the middle of the night.

B) I can read my SMS when I wake up rather than turn on the phone and sit waitaing for the flood of "beep-beep, beep-beep" tones!

Firstly the reason why it isn't out in the UK networks is that it hasn't even been released in the UK yet.

It hasn't been released here because unlike most other countries the UK networks put the handsets through a test first. They are not released sim free (with the exception of O2 & a couple of Vodafone handsets). As of yet, the network which has taken the Sendo X has decided not to release it. The final decision on retail release timing does not lie with Sendo, unless they were to withold stock. 😉

It's becoming like Esato in here; "Don't say ANYTING negative about Sendo."
The handset has bugs, full stop. Not vibrating, not alarming and freezes are not minnor bugs, they are inherent problems which limit the handset's functionality.
I was in the airport today, I missed an important voicemail because the phone didn't vibrate, I almost missed my flight because the alarm wasn't audiable, and I was unable to let the driver know I had landed because the battery was dead.
That's just the first day with the handset. Had I used my 6230, 7610, V600, T630 or P900 I wouldn't have had any of those problems. I stick with the Sendo because it's the only small series 60 handset on the market and I like it. I do however have some critisisms. Is that allowed?! 🙄 I look forward to the firmware update and hope it solves the problems I've been having. :icon14:

surely criticism is allowed.

but the battery being dead is -sry to say that- your own fault. If you would have loaded it like sendo tells you : fully load it without using it during 12 hours, drain it totally, fully load it again and again totally drain it.

your battery would be twice as strong.

the phone ringing but not vibrating => never had this problem, anyone else?
the phone freezing every minute => what the hell do you do with your phone then?
alarm not going off in silent mode => will test it on mine, if it's still not working, then i will send the bug to sendo.

I appriciate that. All lithium ion batteries need at least 3 charging cycles to reach their full potential. A new battery should last far longer than half a day regardless of the conditioning though. You will only see a maximum of a 30-40% increase after the charging cycles.

the phone ringing but not vibrating => never had this problem, anyone else?

To be fair, I managed to get the vibrate working late last night, so it does work sometimes. Just not very often.

the phone freezing every minute => what the hell do you do with your phone then?

Just exactly what I wrote in the first post. Play a java game and send yourself an SMS, stand back and watch how the phone freezes up for 30 seconds or so. Even worse, send yourself an sms and call yourself at the same time. The phone reboots.

alarm not going off in silent mode => will test it on mine, if it's still not working, then i will send the bug to sendo.

Thanks.

excuse me but,

why would you want to send yourself an SMS ?

evenmore : who sends himself an sms, and at the same time calls himself? :stupid:
that's really weard.

plus, i must add that not all java games are compatible with the sendo.

if your battery only lasts a half day after a full load, i suggest you return it to a sendo repair centre or send it back to the store it came from. A good battery should last at least almost a day on a sendo.

SPEEDMAN wrote:excuse me but,

Oh dear... You've missed the point completely. You are so eager to denounce ANY negative comments about the Sendo X that you end up making comments which offer little in the way of a solution, but rather illustrate your complete lack of understanding.
The problem arose when someone sent me a text message, at the same time a phone call came through (this DOES happen when you are a busy person, believe me). At this point the handset froze before rebooting itself. To this you replied;

what the hell do you do with your phone then?
hence I pointed out a method of recreating the problem. Is that really so difficult to comprehend?! 🙄

With regards to your other dig, I know the battery life is poor which is why I highlighted it in the first post, but if you prefer to state the obvious... 🙄

I should point out that you are dealing with some who works in the industry (for SonyEricsson) and thanks to substantial use of pre-production products, is quite capable of determining what constitutes a genuine fault as opposed to a person who cannot use the product, we are dealing with the former here.
Speedman please don't bother to reply on this thread unless you intend to further the discussion; your pointless comments really don't help anyone.

it just keeps getting wearder and wearder. If you work for 'the industry' and even more for 'sony ericsson' why work with a sendo phone ?
You didn't say the call and the message came from somebody else, you stated 'try sending a message to yourself and calling yourself at the same time'.
Even someone from the industry must understand that's pretty weard. 😉

Now for testing purposes, i tried sending a message from the internet to my phone while i was making a call and i received it, no problem at all. So i suggest you either get your hands on the BETA, or wait for the full firmware to come out.

I cn take a negative comment, but nothing is without a solution. Even after full firmware comes out, sendo is still able to resolve still existing bugs or bugs that appear after.

I didn't restart my phone for a week now and it's still very smooth. What i do, is i backup everything to my memory card, the format using the
*#7370# method. If they ask you a code after it's 12345.

then restore from mem card. Then i format again using the same method and restore again. (the backup stays on your mem card even after you restored from it) I repeated this cycle 3 times, and now my phone works smoothly ever after. I don't know if this will help all of you, but it did to me.
With this new firmware, i've come to enjoy my phone a lot more. 😊
and for mr omar : yes, the original version IS buggy 😊 .

We got there in the end Speedman! 😃 We'll put the missunderstanding down to language differences as we're still not on the same wavelength.

I work for Sony UK technical training & marketing part of that entails hands-on tests of the new products (http://www.whatmobile.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14373), , occasionaly Sony Ericsson stuff. It doesn't mean I can't use a Sendo, or Panasonic product though! 😃

My Sendo is going back to Pixmania, but i'll buy another one once the firmware update is released. When the phone worked, it worked very well. Problem with mine was that it didn't work often enough for it to be worth 300 :frown:

Does anyone know how to delete emails that have been picked up?

I have a POP account set up to access my Yahoo email. I started to collect email before realising that there are over 100 old messages in my Yahoo Inbox (and I didn't want to pay the GPRS charge for 7MB of download)

In the meantime some of the headers had downloaded to my X. I tried to delete them but they just stay there no matter how many times I mark them and press delete.

i'm not quite sure where to find it, but i've seen the option. can't you set that up in your email account on your phone?

if it is POP3, you should be able to delete it. 😉

oh and omar,

no hard feelings. It was all quite funny so to say. I added it to my signature. 😃

Omar, that is the funniest thread I have EVER read.

For someone who is allegedly in the industry I particularly like " My phone is on silent and It did not make a sound when the alarm went off " . Thats hysterical!

I mean, did i miss something? You did set the phone to " SILENT " right? A phone mode that has NO SOUND! And then complained cos its SILENT? LMAO!!!!!!

My super X vibrates, my super X has no problems with freezing, My super super X has a battery to die for, i listened to mp3 nearly all weekend, while playing cellmill and it still on 1 bar!

Thanks for lightening up my day. No..... Really, thanks!

Xerxes,
Mark all the emails you don't want. Click delete, then "Connect to mailbox".
The phone will connect without retrieving new emails. Click disconnect once the GPRS connection is active and viola! Email headers will be removed.

SPEEDMAN,
Ditto.

Techie Tony,
I'm sorry, I'm so stupid, my post should have had a message at the bottom asking, no BEGGING for people with little or no understanding to reply with wise cracking comments.
You are SO right, I am THE ONLY person who has ever needed to leave their mobile phone on at night, with vibration and but no audiable alerts for calls or sms. I mean, who'd want to be able to receive sms without waking up the other half, and then expect the alarm clock to work in the morning?! Oh... hang on, someone must want that feature seeing as Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola & HTC all implement it in their handsets. Infact... wait a minute, the Sendo X is the ONLY smartphone on the market which is incapable of it. Such was the demand for this feature that it was added the to original SPV smartphone in its first firmware update. Then again, I wouldn't know anything seeing as I only "allegedy" have anything to do with the electronic products you'll be buying next year. 🙄

Because something isn't required on your part (and not understood) doesn't mean NOBODY else appriciates something most mobile phones have done since 1996.

___
I'm glad to hear that your Sendo X's don't appear to have the same problems as mine. If they did, I don't think any of you would have kept them! Like I said, hopefully when the next firmware update is released, most of the problems will be solved, in which case i'll happily part with 300 for one. Until then, i'm sad to say i've returned my handset and even sadder to say that i'll be returning to the Nokia 7610 and its "fashionable" keypad. :frown:

Why is it that people on here feel the need to flame other users and post very stupid comments when someone reports some bugs which haven't actually been mentioned on here before?

Those of you doing this obviously don't know Omar at all well, and obviously don't post at the w@mob forums (thankfully). If you did, you'd know that Omar was basically persuaded to buy the Sendo X after I kept telling him how good I thought mine was. I think he was unlucky and got one which was genuinly faulty (lack of vibrate and battery power). However, the other bugs he mentioned are perfectly valid and should be addressed by Sendo. Hopefully they have been in the next firmware.

It is possible to critisise a phone yet still like it. I do that enough with my phones! I constantly say how much I *hate* my T610, but I don't get flamed by Omar for saying it. If you actually read his posts properly, you'll see he mentions at least twice that "when the phone works there's nothing else to touch it!" and "I will happily part with 300 [for the Sendo X] once the next firmware is released" - hello guys...he LIKES the phone, he just *happened* to mention some of the bugs it has!

His post did not deserve the STUPID replies he got!

Hi Stu,

I agree. If Omar (or anyone else come to that - even Nutzu 😊 have a problem with their handset, they should be able to document it here, and get some support and/or advice on the issue, if only to let them know they are not the only one with the problem. And if it's a new issue, let others know (hopefully in a nice way) to watch out for it.

As someone who works for Sendo, I was also happy to see that a S-E employee is buying one of our handsets - gives me a warm feeling inside 😊

The firmware update will be out soon, so I would encourage Omar to hang on to the handset, and see if this resolves the issues he has.

Regards to you all,

plinkyKev

Thanks Omar.

let's say the biggest bugs have allready been worked out, now the smaller ones are being fixed. I'd say it's very near to release.

when? can't say. You'll just have to wait a bit. Beats saying a date and then having to postpone the release. 😉

I agree with Plinkykev

No need for people to get blasted for talking about issues they are having. Its a friendly forum, lets keep it that way .

Hey Folks,

I have noticed the same behaviour as omar at least regarding incoming calls and sms. I was not at all able to answer the phone it froze had to restart it.

And my phone does as well not ring in silent mode despite to the manual which many of u have not read I assume.

Another bug is the deafening sound the phone does when u start a call and the battery is low. it hurts. Siemens stopped delivering the 65 series for this behavior.

the other thing is the f....ing annoying peeps I get when i turn on the phone or off or if I get a system error on low battery or when code is accepted or not. What for can the warning tones be turned off if the phone dont give a f...

Bluetooth implementation is lousy if remote sender (SE K700i ) interupts the sending for any reason the phone has to be rebootet to use bluetooth if not all connections result in an error on the senders side.

Can the Sendo connect to BT Printer ans print on it ??

It as well is very not slow but almost when u answer a call it still vibrates although the connections is already establ. and take ages to connect after button pressed.

I will try speedmans solution of backing up and restoring a view times.

My phone also turnes of for no reason or even worse it wont light the display at all leaving me looking stupid at the dark display and finally rebooting.

Still dont have a clue how to install java apps meaning where to copy them after downloading.

any apps that are confirmed to be working without causing freezes ??
I have Switcher, Fexplorer, Forward, AgileMessenger and Torch running so far.
these are nokia apps afaik.
Please mail me 4 yours [email protected]
thats it for the moment.

regards bruce

The bugs I have noticed - for what it's worth:

no calls after playing games

no ability to change selection colours on now screen - why burgundy?

sides look a bit cheap - the right hand side has a little placcy squeak above the button - curve it in like SE's

the shuffle always starts in the same place

my SMS doesn't send or receive - changed centre numbers and it worked briefly but no longer - what can I do?

I can't pick up email - though I can send it

I want access to a couple more audio and video formats please

Loading times when you've clicked on last caller are very poor

The USB connection is slower than my BBC Master used to be (is anyone else waiting for 'Elite' to port to mobiles?)

We should be able to assign other things to the buttons on the sides - they are great but wasted

Speaking of which my phone crashes when I try to pick up my voicemail and the speeddials do not work

Nevertheless - I still love it - they are great plucky little phones with above average cameras and specs... but - one request if there is time for inclusion in the update:

Could you please include a stereo bluetooth headset option as standard - you've done such a sterling job on the sound, it would be a shame if you could only listen to stuff in mono on bluetooth music headphone's like the bluetake ones.

plus

Will we be able to get rid of that top bar if we want to whilst we watch films using software like Makayama's?

about sending stuff to se k700i ,i notice the same thing when i try to send stuff or receive stuff from k700i, the phone crack (k700i ) or the SX1, i had the same problem even i am using sx1 (i dont have sendoX).
seem to be k700problem

urbanscrawl wrote:The bugs I have noticed - for what it's worth:

=> try the reset and restore from mem card i explained earlier in this topic. repeat this a few times. that worked for me. My problem was after playing mp3 i couldn't receive calls.

no ability to change selection colours on now screen - why burgundy?

=> in the beta and also in the future firmware you will be able to make your own themes and change the colours.

sides look a bit cheap - the right hand side has a little placcy squeak above the button - curve it in like SE's
=> i don't have this

the shuffle always starts in the same place
=> is being looked at in the firmware

my SMS doesn't send or receive - changed centre numbers and it worked briefly but no longer - what can I do?
=> check your network settings, preferably download em from your network provider or from the sendo network

I can't pick up email - though I can send it
=>i can pickup mail

I want access to a couple more audio and video formats please
=> install the right application like for example smartmovie, it will give you the xvid codec and also the possibility to see movies avi/mpeg in full screen.

Loading times when you've clicked on last caller are very poor
=> is allready improved in the beta. The full firmware it will be as well (obviously)

The USB connection is slower than my BBC Master used to be (is anyone else waiting for 'Elite' to port to mobiles?)
=> improved also in the beta, so the full firmware will have this as well. Although i advise to use a mem card reader and a good mem card.

We should be able to assign other things to the buttons on the sides - they are great but wasted
=> you can assign it to one button. If you say you are right handed, the right button will be used basically for voice activation. then you will waste the left button, that is correct. Left button will be available when you say you are left handed.

Speaking of which my phone crashes when I try to pick up my voicemail and the speeddials do not work
=> they work with me. I suggest you wait for full firmware.

Nevertheless - I still love it - they are great plucky little phones with above average cameras and specs...

=> bluetooth headsets are expensive, the headset that is provided in the standard box is quite good for making calls, answering them (pushing the grey line in the volume controll answers and closes down calls) and also it provides stereo enjoyment of the phone.

is it possible to watch mpeg-files in smartmovie? where can i get the codec?

So, what you are saying basically is - wait for the update. Fair enough.

Regarding the settings though - I have had them sent from both the phone maufacturer and Sendo. The problem is, once you cannot receive text messages - you cannot receive messages to update you, so what do you do?

Also, I have no doubt that receiving email works on yours, unfortunately that does not change the fact that they do not work on mine..!

Makayama is software that allows you to change DVDs that you own to perfect mobile size and quality.

I still think that it's a great phone, I'm not sure why I am so keen that it works out. Perhaps it is the simple black and silver styling, perhaps it is the size, perhaps it is the great music player? I'm not sure - but I'm definitely willing to forgive it much more than something from Nokia.
