Nokia 6630 on Orange Rebooting

Hi, I purchased the 6630 on Orange on 27th December. After a couple of hours I got the fault where I couldnt open contacts, messages and if I pushed a number key it reset. I got it replaced and the next handset was fine until today where it started doing the same. Now when I turn it on it doesnt even start up, just seems caught in a continual loop. I see that there is messages on here regarding software problems, I cant check the software version because i cant get into the phone but I called nokia and Orange and they claim there isnt a new software version. How do get around this???

i would take it back to the orange shop & tell them about the problem, they should give u a replacement & hopefully it will be 3rd time lucky. good luck

Replacement due tomorrow, hope i am luckier. I love the phone when its working so I hope this doesnt happen again.
I wouldnt mind if it did it from time to time but once it started the phone became unusable. If it happens again I may have to consider another phone. Any thoughts on the microsoft powered phones. Knowing microsoft as they are they will eventually dominate the mobile phone software scene. The company i work for is developing windows media 9 encoding for mobiles specifically but MP4 is going to be just as bigger rival.

I just received my new 6630 from orange, i downloaded my previous backed up data from PC to phone using the Nokia data cable and PC suite and then within about 10 minutes exactly the same problem, the phone reboots itself whenever i press a number key, also cant get into write message screen or contacts. I cant call orange from the handset because if i press for any of the options it resets. Im getting a bit annoyed with this. Am i the only person with this problem as orange and nokia claim there isnt any issue like this with the handset

Does this only happen after restoring your previous backed up data? Maybe you have some corrupt/invalid data backed up? (e.g. invalid contact/message etc.)

What happens if you do a reset to factory settings?

Don't know what's causing this problem, just a few suggestions...

Good luck!

Clearly, its a software issue with the phone and you have unknowingly found a particular combination of events/data that causes this to happen. For the benefit of other 6630 owners I wish we could know what those magic steps are.

In any case, if you try a 4th, you should not restore from a backup, and go step by step. Either the problem will not re-occur or you will find out which thing makes it happen.

You cannot reset this phone, because you won't be able to press the numeric keys without it crashing.

The process:

1st phone,

Turned it on, tried out a few bits, camera WAP etc
Transferred numbers from my 6230 via bluetooth. Phone still working fine. Messed about a bit more, went to write a message and it wouldnt stay in the write message screen, went to contacts and it wouldnt run that, pressed some buttons and it reset itself.

2nd phone,

Got it, transferred numbers from 6230 again, installed nokia software from nokia website, installed opera browser and a game from the orange wap site. Fine, completely fine, lasted 8 days then I backed it up to PC and it was still fine, went to check email and it was fine then it just reset and went into the constant reset when i pressed buttons.
It then got worse when i took the battery out, put it back in and it wouldnt get past the nokia screen as it boots up, constantly resetting.

3rd phone, recieved at half 9 this morning, restored old phone data and settings to it and then pressed a button and boom gone

Next 1 is due tomorrow morning, I am not going to put any of the previous stuff on there at all, im going to reformat the MMC and put the numbers on from fresh.

Is there any symbian software that kill the phone??

Hmm..not much of a pattern there other than whatever upset the second one, upset the third.

At the moment we are only aware of one firmware in circulation, 2nd December (type *#0000#). It would be good if you confirm the firmware on your phone you receive tomorrow.

I did check the software version before it went wrong, cant remember what it was but was dated 02-12-04 so i thought it would be OK, i was so wrong.

I will tomorrow not do anything the same as with the other 2 apart from install the Nokia Apps and opera browser, i will not drag the settings over, i will set it up from scratch, reformat the MMC and load the numbers in from scratch and see if this 1 lasts more than the record i hold of 8 days

Exactly the same problems as me on T-mmobile - ver very weird. I'll be on my 3rd handset within a week tomorrow, but given your experience, i don't hold out much hope of it being any better.

It has got worse
4th handset didnt turn up. They have run out of these handsets now so they basically said they didnt know when they could get me a new one which is complete crap so im cancelling my contract, getting a refund and going with vodafone!!

Are you saying they made you wait in for the replacement and then only when you called them, they told you they were out of stock? That seems crazy if thats true. They should know stock when they request the replacement.

Tell me about it, Orange claims to be totally focused on customer service but they ahve messed me about so much, I am within my rights to have a full refund under the 14day money back guarantee but I cant even do that as the Orange outlet i got it from wont accept the handset because Orange customer services replaced it when they shouldnt have done. I now have a 6630 on Vodafone and its been fine for 12 hours and their WAP services are much better. Orange have no said they will definately give me a full refund so im going to the shop at lunch time and wont leave until i get it!!

Too right!

btw, did you get the video stand with your Vodafone 6630? And the 32Mb MMC card?

Did Orange include the video stand? Or did they supply the 64Mb MMC card?

Bugger. My Oange 6630 rebooted on me a couple of times, but nothing major. This morning my message server refused to let me send texts, repeatedly closing the inbox/message windows. Thought I'd backup and format, but each time I try to backup contacts the phone reboots.

Last night I received an O2 XDA2 business card. I don't believe that's what screwed it, but I'm gonna have to lose all my contacts now just to format the damn phone 😞

The orange one came with a 64Mb memory card yes
The vodafone one came with 32Mb MMC and camera stand
I already brought the camera stand so i have one spare if anyone wants to buy it.

There is a link then, I sent business cards from my 6230 over bluetooth, some data must have become corrupt and messed the phone up completely.
The only link between my 3 faulty phones is the source of the phone book originally!!!

Has anyone noticed this problem on the Vodafone 6630? Not that i'm asking anyone to try it lol Just wondering if anyone has already done so and got the same problem...

Hi i am interested in buying the nokia 6630. Would you recommend it? Also un registered would you advise a particular network? I was originally going to go for orange. Also how much would you sell your video stand for?

i dunno why the phone restarts but to fix it u have to perform a hard restart, it happened to me and i havent even got a sim card in it yet, quite odd really...

so wen it kept on restarting every time i pressed a button i got worried, especially since i couldnt type the code to restart it. so to perform a hard restart, when the phone is loadin and has nokia on the screen, hold down:

[green call button] + [3] + [*]

wait for the nokia sign to blink once, then let go... everything should work, but uve lost all ur things on the fone 😡

if that dont work it mite be [2] instead of [3]

hope this helps, since it happened to me it hasnt happened again 😊

I had the same problem with my 6630. After I transfered my contact from outlook to the phone it would reset everytime I press any key. I was able to reset using the tip of minenchi (thanks so much!). Everything was fine till someone sent me a business card from a 3650 then same problem again. I retured the phone and got another one with an older firmware. So far so good, but I don't plan to sync my old contacts anymore.

Does anyone know the cause of this probelem?

Thanks!

My Phone Won't Let Me Create A New Msg(sms, Mms Or Email) And I Can't Enter My Contacts. Also In The Standby Mode Whenever I Press A Key It Restarts And When I Change Any Settings It Also Restarts. Can Someone Help Me? ( I Mean I Got The Same Problem As Mentioned On This Thread). Also My Phone Is An Unbranded One

P.s: I Don't Have Warranty On Mine So I Can't Return Mine So Plz Help Me

Don't Worry Man, I Just Solved My Prob. The "call Key" + "3" + "*" Works And Everything Is Fine Except That I Lost All My Contacts But Thats Not A Big Deal
Anyway Thx Again

[QUOTE=Unregistered83]

I had exactly the same prob as yours! contact list, msg and number pad, they either reboot or crashed. this is the first handset.. i just sent it for service and diagnostic. they said that it will take about 7 days for them to get back to me. so what's the latest on this prob? any solutions yet? the nokia shop here doesn't have replacement set policy. crap.

I realised it occured after i deleted a midi file from the phone via the pc suite.
