I hope this is not old news. Yet another nice piece of software!!!!!!!!!! 😃
Has anyone tested the beta version of this new chat and Instant Messaging client yet? It looks promising on their website 😊 . Go to http://www.westhouse.biz/westone/beta.htm for the beta.
I can't access TCP/IP over GPRS so I can't actualy evaluate how good it is but i installed it and the log in screen looked very slick! But that's as far as i've seen. 😞
I just installed it and it looks great. Wow, what a design! 😮
looks decent, though it can only connect trough their site...???? no direct connection to icq,...? 😞 😞 😞
Cant seem to download this, but when i can and if it works it just may be worthwhile signing up to a gprs tariff!
Any one know whether is supports MSN messenger?
I just cant get it to download cry
Site seems to be down.
Anyone have a copy they can post on the forum or another link where it is retrievable?
It works via the internet standard, Jabba. It is not compatible with AOL, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo etc.
For support of these see Shape Services' IM+ which is $19.90 from www.handango.com
Here's the WestOne Messenger:
Before I attach it, I think it has been removedfrom their site, in which case is it still ok to post it here admin?
Thanks Omar, but it seems to have been put back. The site is up and running again. Looks like it will have Jabber support in the future (MSN, ICQ etc, but that is still in development)
Cant wait until it is available! bday
it says that you need a GPRS connection but i've been using this through WAP, it's cheaper aswell as it's included in my free minutes bundle
NK8, can you chat with people using AOL/MSN messenger at all?
NK, Which network are you on? I've tried all the available internet options (I was hoping I could use my existing dial up 9.6k/s ( gsm setting, but it just gives me an error.) I've tried using the WAP settings and I get the same thing (on Orange).
When you use your WAP does it use GPRS? Does a G come up on the phone display (indicating GPRS) or a D (for data call)?
Many thanks
Looks like it will have Jabber support in the future (MSN, ICQ etc, but that is still in development)
It already has Jabber support, thats the chat protocol is uses.
MSN, ICQ etc. are already supported in IM+ (a different application) You cannot connect to them at all using the West One software as it does not have the facility to connect to the MSN/ICQ/etc servers. This has all been discussed this week in the thread called "Instant Messenger", and the one called "IM+" and the one called.... you know what I mean! 😃
Unfortunately IM+ doesnt support MSN messenger, although it does do ICQ and AOL. (This I learned off the aforementioned thread ) ) I'm just after anything that runs MSN.
Ah, sorry. I can put a stop to all my silliness.
From the IM+ website faq...
When IM+ for Nokia 7650/3650 with MSN support will be available? When IM+ forNokia 7650/3650 with multimedia messages support will be available?
MSN support and multimedia messaging will be available in version 2.0. The release of version 2.0 is planned for November 2002.
Yep, to be released this week according to ShapeServices when I emailed them last week, so hopfully we'll be MSN'ing in a few days!
Some people have said that the westOne solution doesn't support MSN, but does support Jabber. I thought Jabber provided a gateway through to MSN.
At least, it did. Has this changed?
No. It does not connect thru jabber gateways to anything, but it uses
jabber service. Been testing it today. Works really great for me.
A bit large size. 😞 But really great frontend, but takes a bit getting used to.
Really great program.
Don't pay money for nothing! Look at www.tipic.com, click on TipicME link... lt will be available FREE soon, very soon! ??support: lcq, msn, yahoo, aim and, naturally, Jabber. ??ginomi
Thank gin0mi. Has anyone tried TipicME on a 7650 and MSN messenger? Does it work and if so, how well?
I called up Orange to enable my GPRS last night and it still isnt enabled evil When it is I cant wait to get msn'ing
Bertie, have you seen the 4 per month access deal?
Unlimited data for 4, it's sold as the Access Pack.
They haven't been charging any extra for data sent or recieved, regardless if it's WAP or WEB since the offer started. I'd sign up, sent a few kb's over the TCP/IP connection and then check your bill online just to be sure but it's a great deal.
Omar_g, are you signed up to it? I thought it was WAP only? Can you use things like webviewer and the IM programs over the WAP connection?
Actually when I spoke to them yesterday they said that there was the WAP access pack. I asked it it was unlimited and they said there was a 10mb limit. (they did stress it was WAP only though)
Still, its a lot cheaper than the GPRS costs if it is possible.

I'm in the developing team, so, be sure, it work... in the next days we will release a beta version. 😉
Stay tuned!

10mb is the fair use policy the have on it. Go over 10mb and they caution you to curb useage, go over 15mb (in a single month) and they retain the right to remove the access pack from your billing.
With regards to WAP only use, yes this is what they offer but billing is a different matter (or so i've been reading on various newsgroups) thus far nobody has been charged for it, beyond the 4
I don't use my Orange contract at all other than for the 30 mins every month. If O2 refuse to sign me up to their MobileWeb tariff (5 access plus 1 per MB) then i'll disconnect and switch to my Orange sim.
about MSN, ICQ, AOL and Yahoo! via Jabber(and clients, what "support" MSN, ICQ and etc via Jabber-servers):
The truth in that Microsoft and AOL are blocking Jabber servers, so ICQ-, AOL, AIM - gates blocked too.
So.... don't be surprised, when MSN, AOL and AIM don't working in this client.. 😊
I hear all you guys talking about these fine programs.... buts where's the links???

about TipicME:
"Based on Java(TM) 2 Micro Edition (J2ME)"
Sorry, but MIDP in 7650 don't support sockets. So, if your messenger working, it working via http and it generate very big traffic 😊(Especially for Jabber, bacause it's XML-based protocol. ) so, i'll pay
a lot for using your messenger in my Nokia... 😊
