Worth it to Upgrade to firmware v5?

Its been two weeks since I have upgraded to v5. The fixes made in v5 are already mentioned somewhere in this forum. I will share my experiences with notable changes made after the version upgrade.

Upgrade takes 30 mins or less than that. But you may have to keep your phone over a day depending upon the business of the NCC you go to. I got mine back within 90 mins.

You will have to backup your phone before this. Use Nokia PC Suite for this. It will backup each and every setting of the phone as well as all the data. Restoring after the upgrade is only a double click away. So don worry about this process.

The Music Menu has been changed and its easier to search and sort tracks.

The sound does show an improvement after the upgrade as already mentioned by someone in the post.

I had the default ringtone ringing problem but applying the patch after the upgrade has solved the issue. Aplying the patch before the upgrade may not help you as it didnt help me.

I dont know about this but after the upgrade i actually get to see the call duration while the call is On. Im not sure whether it was available earlier or the service provider has disabled it.

Bonus Nokia N70 Screensaver has been included in the upgrade. It basically is a 4-5 slide show showing features of N70.

2 more themes are included. They are not good at all and can be downloaded from the nokia web site.

I am really annoyed with this one but they removed the white theme (not the default one, its name is displayed as Theme1 in the theme menu). It was my favorite. Im searching for it now. Can anyone plz send it to me ?

No improvement in galley performence. takes hell of a time to open with lot of data on MMC. No improvemnt here or in the settings either.

Phone automatically getting switched off issue has disappeared after the upgrade.

Conclusion : Well the upgrade was good and solved a lot of issues with my phone. So its worth it. Get it done from a NCC ONLY. You can ge it done for free if its under warranty or may depend upon your location.

Plz ask me if you want to know anything in specific about the upgrade.

Hello,

I bought a N70 with a T-Mobile branding and firmware V.2
I found a Nokia - Service Point which upgraded my phone
to the firmware V.5.x.x.x
I thought that now I could use sim-cards from other provider
and the netlock was taken off by removing the branding.
But it isnt the case. I had no branding but the phone still
does not accept sim-cards from other providers.

Does anyone know if this is normal?

My N70 is made in China. I don't have the option to go settings and change the last name.

Any idea why?

First name first.

You dont need to upgrade for this.

The firmware upgrades the firmware - nothing else. You need to go through your network to get the network lock removed

Regarding the gallery problem, I think it is in the MMC card. I had that problem too with v5 and after changing the card it works. try to put the MMC in other N70 and if the problem changes to that handset you'll clarify where the problem is.

In relation to the theme you have a private post.

My phone is made in China too. Its strange that you dont have this option. Usually service providers block some settings in the phone but why will anyone block this one. You can show it to a Nokia Care Centre or may even get a firmware upgrade.

Wow, this is pretty weird because I bought my phone unbranded and unlocked. The current firmware version of my phone is V 2.0539.1.2 (19-10-05). Maybe I should upgrade my phone once version 5 has come out. Please advice

By the way, does anyone here from Toronto who does firmware upgrade on N70? Please let me know and how much too.

Thanks

Hello, iv got a tomtom 5.2 and BT77 bluetooth GPS receiver and was wondering if it would work propery on the nokia n70 with the new version 5 on it🙄

Hi I have an upgraded N70 that runs fine with tomtom 5.2. The only problem I have with the phone is if Im using my Bluetooth headset it will disconnect from the phone which is rather annoying :banghead:.

Tom Tom has been stable on the N70 since FW 3.xxxx so should be fine with FW 5.xxxx

HOWEVER, go to TomTom settings and HIDE all POI's or Tom Tom is unstable.
You can still NAGIVATE TO a POI or WARN ONLY WHEN POI ON ROUTE (e.g. Speedcams).

Much More info available on other threads so will say no more.
