IM+ 2.0 is out!
$27.50?! You've got to be joking, V1.2 was $19.
Free MSN/ICQ/AOL via Tipic, all the way. 😃
They really freaked out taking 30$.
I really want it, (Q for the testers) is it worth it?
IM+ v. 2.0 for Nokia 7650/3650
(1.x users need an update licence for this version)
:roll:
thats too much for a IM app. :-? what are they thinking.
I really want it, (Q for the testers) is it worth it?
Well, IMHO 30$ are a bit too much for a symbian application. But anyway it's quite good. 😊
It's really a cool application, and you don't have to use Jabber or whatever to connect, just your plain ICQ, AIM and MSN accounts. It's very simple to use (like v1.x, you maybe need to 'get started' with some things, but it's good)
MSN support is really what I was missing in previous release. I am a heavy user of that IM, so I will be a heavy user of this program too (at least, till I can continue paying 10 monthly for an unmetered GPRS connection)
What else? Yes, file transfers !!! This is another very cool addiction :angel: This feature uses a proxy server from Shapeservices to help speed-up file transfers and is pretty nice for sending every kind of file.
So, if you ask me, this is a valid program, maybe just a little overpriced (hope Shapeservices will reduce that) but if you count all the improvements since previous release it's not that much 😊 ... and you have the quality assurance that the program will be 99% bug-free, thanks to the great testers they have 😃 😃 😃 (ok... just joking in this last part 😃)
do these IM applications require you to have a GPRS data connection or can u connect via wap and run the application?
gprs connection doesnt work with im+ well on vodafone uk anyway. i can connect using my adsl bluetooth connectoin but when i try and use gprs it stays a while then says connection error????? 😮
There does not seem to be a trial version - is this correct? I need a trial version because I have problems with this sort of app normally with my access provider - Orange France, who seem to have close many ports 😞
does anyone know if it works well on the o2 uk network?
dont want to spend all that money and it doesnt wok.
thanks
chenman
same here m8 but im on pay as u go free tx.
doesnt seem to connect other than through a bluetooth connection to a pc/laptop. this aint good considering i paid 17 for it although its kinda cool lying in bed and chatting on msn and icq.
but the whole poit was that it can be used out and about. Which it seems vodafone doesnt let you do.
any help on this one people?
oh my..im on vodafone too (holland) and i just bought that app. Still waiting for the register key....
i really hope it's working... jabber is nice too, but i need sounds and stuff, i can't be bothered to look every minute to see if there is a message...

So you're saying I can use IM+ ver 2 to use MSN or whatever through bluetooth on the PC ? without connecting the phone through WAP or GPRS ? please explain .. thanks
maybe this has something to do with the gprs settings that the phone operators use. maybe they dont support the software interms of accessing messaging ports?
any clues people? 😮

Yes. You can connect to ur pc, and log in on IM+ thru ur PC's Internet connection.
There's another topic dealing with the settings, but here they are..
Settings > Connections > Access Points > Options > Create a new access point > Use dedault Settigns
Connection Name = Any*
Data Bearer = GPRS
Access Point Name = None
User Name = None
Password Prompt = No
Password = Does'nt matter*
Authentication = Secure
Gateway Ip Address = 0.0.0.0
When the application ( Webviewer, IM+ , TipicME or whatever) asks for the access point, select the one just created.
YOU SHOULD BE CONNECTED TO PC SUIT To be able to connect
Goodluck
😃 😃 😃
so does that mean that i cant use it on the move, only at home with a bluetooth adapter? but what is the point when you can have msn messenger on the computer.

Almost right Sanjay!
For IM+ and WirelessIRC you *dont* need a dummy GPRS AP, just connect mRouter to the phone, as you would if you were going to use PC suite. When you've got the (o) symbol on your phone startup IM+ hit connect and it will use your bluetooth (or IrDa) connection. Same for WirelessIRC, just set the default accesspoint to "none".
😊

No, you *can* use it on the move as long as your network provides an Internet (not WAP) access point, and they dont block the ports that the messenger needs.
The point of using it at home, is that messenger can be in your pocket. You can icq people while:
* watching the telly
* having a bath
* putting your kids to bed
* having a dump
* cooking your tea
* eating your tea
* in bed
* etc.
and, its free to use while you're in bluetooth range.
Andy
I just recieved my registration code.. its working perfect 😊 Complete with sounds and everything.
The interface is also much cleaner then tipicme. This is a keeper for me.

4.it just tells me msn connection failed check connection
5.same thing with ICQ
6.i post on forum problems encountered

Cheers

Hello Nighty
I did a quick search on the boards for you, and found these two interesting threads:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4045&highlight=vodafone+gprs+settings
and
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3074&highlight=vodafone+gprs+settings
Hopefully they will help you get the problem sorted out.
Andy
(search is a wonderful tool)
i'Ve contacted shapeservices as they've promised a trial version once the 2.0 version is out and i also used this chance to express my dislike of the price - together with the question if there will be more versions of 2.0 like one ICQ only, one AIM only,... as i e.g. would only need icq functions...
the - really quick - response was that there will come a trial in the next days of 2.0,
and about the price the answer was: it supports icq & aol file transfer so you can safe money compared to mms.... wondering if this guy is coming from politics.... 😃
ok dude i know that there is a search button.
But i didnt need to know the settings coz my GPRS works i can surf i can MMS etc....so my gprs settings are correct but... IM+ doesnt work
by any chance have u got it to work?
thanks andy...😊

Sorry matey, I'm on Orange, and the cost of internet over GPRS is too high, so i've never tried it out.
Can you surf only wap sites, or can you also get Webviewer to work over GPRS?
Have you given TIPICme a go, since that connects to a jabber server, it probably uses a different port, that may not be blocked.
Sorry I'm not more help.
A.

MrGimper,
I'm using Orange in the UK, with the basic GPRS 1 bundle, and it works fine. I needed to configure an Internet AP, since it won't work using the default WAP gateway.
