Hey Hey!

No need to appologies. Glad you managed to get it working.
A word of warning though. On Orange, you can subscribe to a GPRS *wap* access pack. Once you've got that setup, you can also access the Internet APN. But!! this is at extra cost. BIG EXTRA COST. Now, I don't know about vodafone - GPRS access may cost the same no matter what tarrif you subscribe to, but, it might be worth checking out before you send too much traffic through it.

Cheers

Andy

thanks again dude....will check out the tariff....

those pesky telephone companies are makin a bomb( not a real bomb) heheh 😃

thanks again dude

Andy...
You seem to be getting too many apologies 😉 😉 😉 😃 😃 😃 Remember the otherone..which was all to similar to this 😃 😃

Hi Sanjay.
I have no idea what you're talking about 😮ops:

Do you reckon that I come across too stern, and so people feel as though they need to appologise once a conversation starts up?

I dunno. 😉 It's all good fun.

Andy

Just to clear up the situation with usability in the UK. Check below to see if you are able to access IM+, Webviewer & Email via GPRS.
___________________________________________________________

O2:
You will need to subscribe to MobileWEB, the price of which is dependant on your tariff. Prices start at 2.35 per mb and rise to 5. This is not the same as the standard GPRS service O2 offer.

T-Mobile:
You can use the software with the defult GPRS settings but you will be charged at the *very* high rate of 2p per KB, this equates to 20 per megabyte. By way of comparisson, Vodafone charge 0.2p per kb. Pricing changes will (should?) come into place before Feb-March.

Orange:
Any Orange GPRS bundle will do the job, although you will need to change your WAP GPRS settings to the published Internet ones. See the Orange site for details. The exception to this is the "Access pack" (4 for unlimited GPRS) is limited to WAP only and won't work. Do not be confused by the 6 a month unlimited GPRS deal which is for new customers, buying an SPV only.

Vodafone:
All Vodafone users, with the exception of those with Singlepoint can use standard GPRS settings. Vodafone Live! users get all GPRS data for free until early next year. There is an Instant Messeging sevice on the Vodafone live! portal though, whihc is free.

O2 are also about to launch their own IM pages on the O2 WAP site.
________________

Hope that helps a few of you. Vodafone Live/Orange Bundles/O2 MobilWeb should be similar regardless of country. T-Mobile on the other hand, uses very different pricing structures/marketing techniques in each teritory.

Can anyone confirm or deny whether IM+ 2.0 successfully works over GPRS on Orange

Cheers

MrGimper,

I'm using Orange in the UK, with the basic GPRS 1 bundle, and it works fine. I needed to configure an Internet AP, since it won't work using the default WAP gateway.

Regards,
Cheers for the prompt reply!
What settings did you use, and with what provider ?

Mr G

I've got contracts with Orange, T-Mobile and O2.

On Orange i used to use the 0.5mb bundle which worked fine.

T-Mobile I used the 2p per KB 'pay as you download' route but only to test it, the pricing is stupidly high.

I currently use O2's mobil web, where I pay 2.35/5 per MB, the UK's 2nd cheapest GPRS TCP/IP tariff.

To be honest, I only use my 7650 as a PDA now. I use my T68i as my regular phone.

This is what worked for me:

Tools...settings...Connection...Access points.

Connection name: (whatever, I used 'Internet GPRS'😉
Data bearer: GPRS
Access point name: orangeinternet
User name: orange
Prompt password: no
Password: (blank, shows up as four asterisks)
Authentification: normal
Gateway IP address: 0.0.0.0

Options...Advanced settings

Phone IP address: Dynamic
Primary Name server: 158.43.128.1
Secondary Name server: (I left as 0.0.0.0, but I think Oranges other name server is 158.43.128.2)

The key differences between this and the default WAP GPRS AP ('Orange GPRS' on my phone) here are the gateway and the DNS server.

Also works with Webviewer, but I really don't reccommend it unless you're on one of the HIGH megabyte deals - I viewed three web sites with images off and instantly hit about 250K :-?

Cheers,

Thanks very much, will give it a go!

I went for the 5mb deal, on the basis that if you go 1mb over on the .5mb deal, that takes you to the basic price of the 5mb package anyways 😊

Rather be safe LOL

Sounds dangerously sensible to me 😊 Although I've just been looking at the 02 web site, and it LOOKS like you can get their mobile web service without having to use them for calls, so 'on top of' the regular Orange account.

Orange GPRS 5: 15.00 basic, ppMB over: 3.50
O2 Data5: also 15.00 basic, ppMb over: 1.50

Personally I'm going to try the 0.5 for a month, see what I get to - I v rarely use WAP, and IMs seem pretty bandwidth efficient so far (although I'm likely to use them a fair bit for work). If I do go over guess I'll have to shop around - they don't make this stuff simple :-?

Will have to keep my eye out for that one 😊

Cheers for your help m8

I've signed up for the 0.5mb Orange GPRS bundle.
Its great for IM and TipicME, really cost effective....until....

You get absolutely hammered on a saturday night out with your mates and decide to show off just how snazzy your new 7650 is, and connect to the web using webviewer and GPRS.

o How to run over your 0.5mb in about 30 seconds! cry

Thats the last time get drunk out with my 7650. I'll be using my 8210 instead (

😃

I did exactly the same thing! It tought me a lesson!

My bill was so high that I still can't afford to go out, so no risk of it happening again. For now.

I did exactly the same. After showing my friends some porn sites through Webviewer I was at 3 mb within 5 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I was still on a EURO 20/mb GPRS deal.
