I’d sent a reply to Mr Ron VEET explaining that I had to use the product key to check that the software worked on the phone. I also explained that the Route66 is absolutely hopeless as it cant even calculate my home address properly without crashing. I explained that they have withdrawn its compatibility on there website which proves that this doesn’t work on the N80. And guess what, they’ve not replied now! 😡

WooHoo!

My FULL REFUND has been processed and appears on my online Credit Card statement. I lost about £1.50 due to exchange rate differences between the purchase date and refund date, and also r66.com did NOT refund my return postage (£6). However, losing £7.50 is much better than losing £80.

I recomment all N80 owners to keep pestering their bank and Ron Veet for their refund.
If your route66 delivery note specifically mentions the N80 as the platform you chose chose when placing the order you have a clear case for obtaining a full refund!

Cheers,
Dez

got this email today from Mr Veet

Dear Customer,

We thank you for your feedback. We know that the map data of the recent britain maps have a fault. We work on a patch for this problem.

It looks like people are finding faults with the software themselves instead of Route66 notifying everyone that is affected.

ROUTE66 HAVE BAD COMMUNICATION!

And not to forget slow at taking responsibility.

Over 4 separate tests each of 30 minutes or more I've had no GPS dropouts running firmware v3.0614.03 11/04/2006 RM92.

TazUk : I have exactly the same firmware as yourself and I am interested in getting it up and running.
Where did you find nav4all as on their website it says the N80 is "coming soon"?
I think i am going to try a generic cheapo bluetooth reciever from ebay and see what its like

i just went to http:\\www.nav4all.com\install using the N80 browser and installed it from there. I'm a programmer so it's in my nature to completely ignore manufacturer compatibility statements 🙄

Overall Nav4All wasn't too bad (considering the fact it was free! but not a keeper for me - the voice prompts were sketchy at best. That said I may retry it as I was running Wayfinder at the same time so naturally veered towards the one with the better interface.

My trial of Wayfinder has run out so I'm waiting to see what my GPRS bill is like before making a decision on that one.

As for getting a GPS from eBay - you should be able to pick up a SirfIII receiver from about 30 - 40 UK if you time it right. I've been pretty impressed with the Holux.

I'm hoping to move to GPS on the phone at the end of the month, as my classic TomTom Go should fetch up to 130 on eBay judging from recent auctions 😊

i really dont fancy one that depends on gprs 😞 I really want tomtom but it doesn't work does it? 😞
I downloaded nav4all using the link thanks!!

I'm retrying Nav4All and getting on with it okay. Only 1 issue at the moment, which I've raised with their support bods. Direction display doesn't override the screensaver once it's kicked in so although you get the voice prompts there's no visual clarification. Hopefully they should be able to resolve this (unless I've missed a setting somewhere) as Wayfinder did it okay.

GPRS access isn't ideal, but given the space requirements for most on-board GPS systems I'm prepared to stick with any viable off-board system until I get a hard drive phone next upgrade cycle (n83 if it matches up with the rumoured specs).

nav4all website seems down to me, (well the front page loads, but once i click on a flag the page is missing...)

Anyone have the setup?

DaniN80 wrote:Hi ...can anyone please tell me how to install route 66 on my N80... thx in return..:icon14:

There is a problem with route 66 and the N80 blutooth with the latest firmware, I would wait untill the next firmware release when a fix will be introduced, unless you have the old firmware 3.0614

The problem is with the N80 with 3.0617 firmware and not route 66

DaniN80 wrote:my firmware is v 3.0617.0.6 :icon4:

Sorry I got the nubers mixed up in my last post..fixed now.

Well you have the latest firmware and there is an issue with the bluetooth and sat nav software, not just route 66 but others also

Please note the following email recieved from Route 66:

Dear Sir,

The N80 has problems with buetooth and memory due to the firmware of the phone. We have confirmation from Nokia that this problem is caused by BT power consumption reduction change which was introduced in the latest firmware. Nokia is working on a fix that will be published shortly. So that is why we took N80 out of the list of compatible phones. As soon as the firmaware will be ready we hope that N80 will then work with no problems with our Mobile 7 S60 V2/3 Software.

Kind regards,

Hi,

Don't bother as R66 is not compatible with the N80 at the moment.

Nav4All also drops bluetooth connection randomly.

TomTom has not yet been released for the N80.

My best guess is that sometime in September (2006 - lol) we will see a major N80 Firmware released followed shortly after by new versions of R66 and TomTom.

Cheers,
Dez

Route 66 is compatible with N80!!!
Real problem is latest N80 fw version (3.0617/618) that drop out continuosly connection between N80 and GPS receiver.
If you have old fw release (i.e. 3.0614), you dont have any problem with Route66.

Bye

If you just wait a few more weeks then hopefully it has been suggested that the new firmware will be out, and there should be a fix with this for the bluetooth.

Hmm.. shame.
Flash demo doesnt really help
I'd want it on my phone working!

I heve N80 and originally pack of Route 66 Mobile 7 symbian 3rd ed Erupe DVD, payed 149 euros.

I know that old fw does not have any problem with bluetooth.
I've latest fw version (0617) and I've installed Route 66. R66 start normally and works well with GPS receiver and navigate well. Only problem is that after few minutes (2-5 min.) drops out the connection and GPS rec. losts brutally all satellite signals.
However, I cannot assure you on the old version functionality with R66, because I don't try it.

Do you have any rumors about when new release will be released?
Thanks

Thanks

Last rumour I heard was sometime in september..I dont think it can be too far away because there are quite a few issues that need to be resolved and I guess the firmware team must have quite a bit of preasure on them to sort it out.

I agree! Besides, does not exist any workaround problem. I follow nokia forum too and I verify thast N80's customers are very angry.

Tnx, bye bye

yeh see thats a lotta money unless it definately works.if only there was a demo or something i could actually try 😞

llolslim wrote:yeh see thats a lotta money unless it definately works.if only there was a demo or something i could actually try 😞

It used to be on there compatability list, then when it had the problem with the new firmware then they took it off, they are in communication with nokia about this issue and when its resolved and working they will put it back into the list, so best thing to do would be to wait untill you see N80 there...

Even if you had a demo now it wouldnt work correctly because of the problem

haha yes I also want everything yesterday so I know what you mean ...but I dont think you have an option here...just grit your teeth and wait for the f/w.

DaniN80 wrote:can anyone please tell me how to install route 66 on N80?... thx :icon4:

Errr...if you read this thread you will find that route 66 does not work with the N80 because of a blutooth problem that will be fixed in the next firmware release..

unless you have the old firmware, I would think that installation instructions would have come with route 66 when you bought it.
