Nokia now supports home FW updates for certain models of phone!! (inc N70, N72)

If I read all those threads about the firmware update, I'm still not sure that it good to do, I really want to have version 5 but when I read the issues with the battery problems.

Good to do?!?! it's essential!!! battery probs my ass, just have it plugged into your charger and have if fully charged when you perform the update if you're concerned.

Don't worry about the battery problems too much, I reported it a couple of weeks ago, but have flashed it again with a full battery and it's back to normal now. Unplugged it from the charger yesterday morning and missing two bars now, which I reckon is acceptable.

BTW, I'm looking for navigation software for South Africa, have the bluetooth GPS receiver. Which offering is the best? Or comes with SA maps to begin with?

Does anyone know why O2 branded phones are still stuck on v3.0546.2.3?

I'm feeling a bit left out here..:frown:

Looking at the list of improvements you get with v5.xxxxxx I can't imagine why o2 would not sanction it...

Hi, I have tried a couple of times to upgrade, but I recieve an error message stating that minimum memory requirement is 256MB. Am I really going to have to buy a new laptop just to upgrade? Thanks

Hey guys i av N70 FW v5.0609.201
need to upgrade my FW coz my org FW is a Chinese version n me needs
an english version asap..
i av d/l d ltst pc suite n d updating software frm official Nokia sites
installed d above softwares w/o a glich
now comes d problem:
wen i run d update software,d prog stalls at splash screen
sayin STARTING APPLICATION...
n d funniest thing is dat d task manager doesnt show it as not responding
tried unistallin n reinstallin both apps (suite/update)
but still same problem persists...😡
any suggestions r welcome...
:icon14: THanks In advance!!! 😊

What would happen if you receive a text or call during the upgrade?
Is it better to take out the MMC for the upgrade?

UPDATE

I did the update, without the MMC inserted, it went smoothly like I'm used from Nokia.
The only strange thing is that I have Mobistar (Belgian provider) as operator but my phone shows me settings, messages, themes from Proximus (Biggest Belgian Operator)

UPDATE II

I got the backup from my PC to put it back on the phone but it froze every time at 65%, a luck that I also made a backup on the MMC card because with that one it went great. Just like before the upgrade. I don't know what went or is wrong with the PC backup?

UPDATE III

I really notice that the N70 is faster, the pictures appear faster in the gallery, the camera opens & closes faster (you have the photofinder faster on screen). I really fell great that I updated my firmware.

For those who are still thinking about doing it, I really recommend to do it ASAP. But make sure you back up your phone on the MMC aswell!

I'm kind of tired of the slow speed of this 2.0536.0.2 firmware and I wanted to update the firmware over NSU. Guess what: no updates available! How the hell is this possible? This is the oldest firmware...😡 Did anybody managed to update from v2 to v5?

Yeeehaaaa!!! The proxy used for internet was the problem. I finally did my upgrade to v5, not without some chills on my back. The NSU gave me a lost connection warning message at about 80% progress which froze the shit inside me. I hitted the "Next" button for five times without success. Anyway, after removing the battery and powering on the phone again, the update finished successfully. Liquid, thanks alot for the details. I owe you a beer mate!

I upgraded my Orange branded N70 from 2.0537.1.7 to 3.0546.2.3. There was no option to go to version 5.

Any idea on how I can override this and force it to V5?

hey when i try to update my n70 i have it connected and all, and the pc suite recognizes it fine, but when i start the updater, it says n70 disconected, but it really is connected, and then the updater just doesnt find my phone. Does anyone know how to solve this. my n70 is unbranded and isnt locked to a service provider. Thanks in advance

Is like that. When the update begins, the phone is unlock from PCSuite and in a mean while, it is recognized by NSU. You wait that time?

yea ive waited for like 15 minutes and tried to hav NSU recognize the phone but it still wont

You will also need to change the product code of your phone. I had debranded my Orange N70 but when I put it through NSU it updated it to the latest Orange software.
I then changed my product code to the one given in a post a few days ago (using the NSS software - there is a link to it in the E61 forum about exactly the same subject), ran it through NSU and now I have a TOTALLY debranded generic N70 with no Orange stuff on there and the latest Nokia firmware - and it is 10 times better as a phone!

Should not occur! Is not that long...

ok, ill try it again, but is there anything i have to do after i start the updater, it just says, cannot find phone, and i keep tryin, so is there anything i should do?

Not find phone! The hardware is on good condition? The phone and the cable are Ok? If yes, uninstall PCSuite and NSU. Do a registry cleaning process, of all entries related. Reboot PC and install again. First PCSuite, and assure it connects the phone.

Seems possible. Do a search because is a "manual" how to do that on the forum.

Yo guys, I've just found out why the batterry lasts shorter on v5 firmware. The camera starts faster because only the viewfinder is stopped. The camera runs on background and the process can be killed. The name of the process is Camera. The camera will start a little bit slower after that. Note that you need to kill the process after each camera use.

I uninstalled them both and reinstalled them in that order, and i made sure the n70 connected succesfully with PCsuite before installing NSU, and after starting NSU, i tried to do the update but it just keeps telling me that it cannot find my phone
any ideas?

Format the phone, without firmware upgrade. Do the backup first, because the lost of personal stuff is total:icon4: Then, format the phone. After that, try the NSU.

i tried, but still, it doesnt detect my phone. PCsuite works fine, but NSU just doesnt detect it

i have the same problem with kazram i think.

i just formatted my PC at work, and installed the latest pc suite. it connects to my N70 fine, but NSU cannot detect my phone. when i uninstall pc suite, NSU can easily detect my phone.

NSU and Nokia Pc Suite cannot work together.

Anybody has a solution?

Uninstall both of them, including the driver for the phone, reboot and install only the NSU. The update will work then. It seems like PC Suite and NSU cannot work together.

Re install Nokia Cable Connectivity Driver which comes with one of the two progs, I can't remember which.
