Gaz81 wrote:i am also having similar problems.been emailing orange... same sort of response as everyone else.
I use the phone for the net, it is always resetting itself running out of memory or failing to see the memory card... or not dialing numbers correctly... the list goes on.
i work for a repair centre in big company who deal through resellers etc.. we dont deal direct with end users as they dont buy the product from us, its the same here. Orange is at fault!
Beleive me, to get this sorted out it just needs one of you "orange" guys to inform orange that you will be making an application with the small claims court to recover you money because you have been sold a product thats not fit for purpose, and actually go through with it, once one of you have done it and won then orange will have to cave to everybody else..
you can do it online in minutes and it will cost you 50 which you can recover in the claim
Yet another reply from our friends at OCS
"Thank you for your mail regarding the Nokia N80.
I was sorry to learn that you are unhappy with the previous replies and
I apologise for the inconvenience caused.
I would like to advise that unfortunately Orange have with drawn the
handset from sale due to the Bluetooth problems.
Orange can not supply an updated firmware for the handset, we are sorry
if this is disappointing.
Orange are responsible for the performance of the network. The
manufacturer are responsible for the performance of the handset.
Regrettably we are unable to comment or assist further with this issue.
Please be advised that the answers to many common queries can be found
in the Frequently Asked Questions section in the Help and Support
option on the Home page of our website, www.orange.co.uk.
I trust the above information is of assistance.
Kind regards

I've emailed a reply asking when they intend to replace my faulty handset and also that it's their problem not Nokia's.
I'm getting bored with this.........but i'm not giving up!!!

!
I got the exact same bullshit off the Tracy yesterday.
Should we collate all the emails we've had of "ocs" and send
them to head office/the papers/ somewhere!
There's so many contradictory replies, on another board one even says
that the firmware has been approved and will be released soon!
Wha-dya-reckons?
the email chains grow longer......
i've been having problems getting access to my account online so i have been emailing them... the emails also include questions about the problems i am having with the N80. I asked in my last mail about the fact they are no longer selling them... they did not answer that question, this was my reply:
Please can you advise about the question regarding the N80.
I have reseached the problem on the internet and have found many cases of people having the same problems as myself. From what i have found there has been no resolution to this? Can you confirm if there is a firmware upgrade to resolve the faults with the phone?
Can you also confirm that the N80 is no longer being sold by Orange because of these faults?
If there are to be no updates to resolve the faults with the phone (Nokia have released an update via there website but this is not available for the Orange branded phone) what are the options as the phones does not do the things a purchased it for. I am informed that there are options under the sales of goods act?
Many thanks for helping me with my problems, I came to Orange from O2 because of the recomendations about customer care.
Thanks,
Gary
Then its trading standards time depends on the reply
its insane! all orange need to do is release v4 of firmware and an the 'bluetooth problems' go away, not withdraw the handset when theres nothing better to replace it! someone somewhere has too much power and not enough sence/knowledge!

Cool Gaz,
Just send that link to TRACY and se what Bull she comes up with next 😊))
lets see what reply i get
I have a Orange Branded N80, its a good phone and i've had no problems with it so far except for the firmware upgrade as the same as everyone else seems to be having.
does anyone know where i can flash it myself online to the generic V4 version?
This is the reply from Orange:

All we can currently confirm is that we are aware of the difficulties you describe and our technical team are currently looking in to how to resolve this matter. In one of my conversations with OCS they claimed that the V4 firmware upgrade was not being supported because it clashed/wouldn't work with the Orange software they load onto the phone as part of the branding. Mind you in the same conversation I was also told that they were unaware of any problems the current firmware on Orange branded N80's running V3.
I just spotted this on the Nokia Forum posted 7 days ago here: http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&message.id=2583
HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just received this from Nokia: Dear Mr Segal Thank you for contacting the Nokia Customer Care Team. With regard to our conversation on 9th October 2006, I can advise that after contacting our Local Office and investigating with Orange direct, the software version of V4.0623 has now been approved, however, as stated previously, it can still take upto 6 weeks before Club Nokia Service Points will have this available for updates to be applied. Furthermore, as advised previously, Nokia Corporation cannot guarantee that the Third Party GPS module you intend to use after the update will be compatible with the newer software, regardless of the information provided at time of purchase, and would therefore advise you to contact them, after the update, if you have any further issues with compatibility. Please don't hesitate to contact us again if you have any further questions. Yours sincerelyIt appears that Orange OKed the software on Friday and now it will take 2-3 weeks to integrate the software modules together plus some more time, for an undisclosed reason, to get it out to us.
These days, most of Orange Customer Service is made up of just the same old rude grunts that u get at any other low-end call centre: shame, cos Orange Cust service used to be good.
I finally got through to a line Manager who did seem to have the will to actually find out what was 'really' going on. I wasn't the first N80 owner that she had on her list with this problem.
So what makes us think the above message about the firmware being approved is correct when we've had tens of emails saying that it won't be approved?
I quote from my post above, directly from OCS;
"Orange can not supply an updated firmware for the handset, we are sorry
if this is disappointing.
Orange are responsible for the performance of the network. The
manufacturer are responsible for the performance of the handset."
I've sent 5 emails in the last 2 days with various questions and i'm still waiting for a reply.
Don't give up people, keep pestering them!!😉
I was having problems with the O2 SIM on a generic firmware N80. I went into an O2 shop today, where they told they don't guarantee their SIM on anything other than O2 hardware. (I noted they do sell the N80 in store).
I dropped into an Orange store down the road (also still selling N80 phones) and tested a staffer's SIM card in my phone, and it worked fine, so contemplating switching my service to them.
software updater has said there is an update for my orange N80.... just about to try
phone now updated...

To further intrigued you my Orange UK phone said 31.02!
I've ran the update, and altough mine failed on step 3 I have the new firmware and the phone is working 😊
So does this mean Orange branded handsets can now update to V4 via the Nokia website?
I've just updated to v4.0623.0.41 using the nokia website...
Hooray! I've just used the Nokia website software updater and am now on:
V 4.0623.0.41

Nokia N80 (31.04)
That is for my Orange branded UK phone.
I followed the instuctions exactly on the Nokia website, that is the instuctions in the FAQ bit entitled "19. How do I update my Nokia NSeries phone software?" and everything went according to plan, no problems whatsoever.
