without synchronize it to the PC?

for some strange reason my pc and my laptop doesn't seem to recognize
the n80 anymore, and i haven't succed to fix it.

how can i update my firmware anyway? i've noticed some over-air update but it doesn't seem to be active.

thanks,

roi

The update-software is only for win. Anyone knows how to update the phone from mac osx or linux?

Warning ..

Be aware that this seems to be very unstable...I was halfway through updating my phone and lost connection with my PC for some reason..now my phone is dead...I will try to revive it....PC and phone were left alone while updating because I know how poor the connecting cable is...

And yes the battery is fully charged

UPDATE..it may be that this is supposed to happen..the updater is still working so I will come back later if it completes..

Ok, this all worked ok..I thought the phone was dead because the screen was off and the usb cable kept connecting and unconnecting, but that is normal, ..just leave the phone alone and plugged in and it will update ok..

The most anoying and irritating thing though is that the phone reverts back to factory settings, and although I backed up my phone contents with pc suite, I cant seem to restore them, I have tried 5 times now, all my contacts, messages installed apps, themes and ringtones I cant get back..

Damn you Nokia...Damn you to HELL

wierd, i found nokia's backup software to be 100% reliable and i keep switching from loads of phones. but your n80 back to the same one should be no problem. wasn't for me when i upgraded to v.4.

When I try to restore it goes throuh all the motions, phone switches off then back on again, says installing, then I get a message saying uncertified bla bla.... then thats it...., no contacts messages, personal settings, softwars or anything..just as it was from the factoey, luckily I save a copy of all messages and contacts to my memory card, i just need to go through the installation ao all my apps and themes..

Might not be a bad thing, a fresh install is sometimes a good idea..

What so shall i put all my contacts onto the memory card before updating? It wont wipe them will it?

Would recommend backing up the phone data to your memory card and removing it before upgrade.

agreed..

Guys/Gals,

:icon4:

Backup all your data before doing a firmware upgrade whether by the online support service or by visiting a Nokia Service Centre, your data/apps/tones/pics/themes etc will all be erased. The handset will be returned to a 'fresh out of the box' state.

I did this steve, via pc suite, but the restore wont work, I have tried 8 times now and given up, I will just reinstall everything manually, but as I said I was lucky because I always keep my messages, and contact details on my mem card..

:con?

Hmmm... it says there is no new software available for mine. 😡

I'm on Voda in the UK, and I'm still using the same buggy firmware that came with the phone several months ago. I was prepared for the fact that V4 might not be ready through the new update service, but I was at least expecting a newer version of V3.

Here's what I'm stuck with.

V3.0614.0.3
11-04-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (42.04)

Anyone else on UK Voda managed to get more recent firmware through offical channels?

Cheers
SL

It would appear that only generic firmware is available from Nokia update, and network specific firmware is not available....I upgraded from V3 to V4.

Nokia What Gives???

I just got almost giddy at the thought of upgrading my Nokia. I was going to do it manually using the Reaper method, but have problems installing Phoniex..

So when the post appeared saying N80 was supported I jumped at the download and clicked install.....

but now, when the software scans for updates.... what do I see..

No updates available.!!!! :icon13: :icon13:
It might as well have shown me a giant middle finger....

Anyone any ideas when it will be updated....

I am on o2

V.3.0617.06

RM-92
Nokia N80 (33.01)

well I am guessing after reading some posts here that Voda are going to discontinue (just rumours dont know if its true), that there may not be another firmware update...just like with orange...I would expect though that Nokia will or should open the V4 firmware for voda and orange users..but again thats probably just wishfull thinking for you guys..but I hope they will

It may be that the update only works with unlocked phones.

I contacted Vodaphone, its going to cost 19.99 to get the unlock code, its also going to take a while as Vodaphone get it from Nokia.

My mate has an unlocked orange phone...will try with his, but I already updated his with V3 generic firmware so we may not be able to tell

The n80 is no longer listed on the nokia update site...what the hell?? Just updated my'n in time!

Hi, iam new here😎

I found this stuff on another forum, and i want to try it myself because many others have updated their n80.

So, today is my biiig day:

Today i did use the Nokia Software Updater to update my n80 (unlocked)
Installed it, and connected the phone using an usb cabel. The software did find my phone after several tries.

It goes, and it were updating, phone turn off. I waited.
In screen, the update was complete, and the message i got is:

Update failed.

Now my n80 is dead:icon14:

Any help is appreciated.

can you try updating again..I know a few people who this happened to and they tried to update again and it worked,

there is a thread here that points to a link that may help you to revive you N80...do a search for "dead n80" you should find it

I think its possible with pheonix

Hey cash you got your contacts and stuff back? When i turn my phone on its says "installing" i presume memory card stuff. Then after a while it said something like some apps are untrusted go to update manager.
anyway, There is no "restore from memory card option" yet my applications are here. Just no contacts and access points and probably some other small things. Oh yeah my themes are here.

Ok.Thanks for fast answer. But i cant turn my phone on, and that way i cant retry to update it, because the pc cant find any phone connected.

I will do a search.

pretty much the same as me..some apps are there, but only about 20% of them .. the others I have to install myself, no themes are there, except 1 theme I have on my mem card
