Thanks, but just to be safe... Anyone have the same but for a stainless steel model? 😊
Does this have effects on network restrictions?
4Site wrote:Does this have effects on network restrictions?
If you mean unlocking the phone to work with all Networks, then NO, sorry.
The only way to unlock a BB5 / N-Series Nokia phone is via the network that locked it in the first place.

bugger, any other links to the same text file? 😞
I got my Orange N80 flashed to generic at a Nokia Service Centre but I'm very interested in this so I can be prepared for when V5 firmware makes it's way to the online NSU.
Thanks for the heads-up though.
*EDIT* Just tried it again and it worked! Yay. 😃 thanks again.

No links but here's the text contents...
Here’s a tutorial that will teach you how to update your phone’s
firmware to a Nokia original version
(without your operator’s personalization) with NSU
(Nokia Software Update – the official Nokia program).
NSU reads the product code of your phone and it searches its database
for a newer version of the corresponding firmware in order to upgrade it.
This is why you will need to change the product code of your phone into a
non-branded product code, before running NSU.
Download the « NSS » software in order to change the phone’s product code.
This is a shareware program that you can download on the site of its author here :
http://bphreaks.brinkster.net/files/NSS/NSS10373b.zip
After that, download the following program: gsm-magic
http://rapidshare.com/files/1236869/Copie_de_gsm-magic.rar.html
(this is not a crack, but a program that allows the activation of any disabled
option on no matter what program).
And finally, download NSU here: NSU.
http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/softwareupdate
NOW WE CAN BEGIN:
Install NSS
Install NSU
Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
Open NSS and click on “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
Click on the icon « Phone info »
Click on “Scan”
Open « gsm-magic » without closing NSS, then push the button « Enable » of “gsm-magic”.
As you can see, now you can change the product code (on the right of the « phone info »
window of NSS). For a Nokia 6680, type the product code 0521637
(this is the product code for France!) and then mark the case “Enable”.
Now press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed
(you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode,
and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry,
the product code changed !).
Close NSS and “gsm-magic” and you can proceed now with the NSU flashing.
When the flashing with NSU is over, start-up your phone and you’ll have the pleasant
surprise that your phone’s firmware is the latest Nokia non-branded firmware in date!
NOTE: I advise you to disable any antivirus and firewall on your PC during the flashing.
In order to find out the product code for other phone models,
download the firmware for your phone model, connect your phone to NSS, click « Scan »,
then « Flash », and after that look for your product code when on « Market »
you will see your country. Write down this number, then you can start the manipulation as
described above. Anyway, we will soon have the product codes for all the models,
so we won’t need this step.
Product code E61 0529663
product code N70 0523982
product code N80 0526966
product code 6680 0521637
product code 6630 0518104
Note that in the above, all codes are (I think) for FRANCE not UK.
Here's my UK product code for CV Pearl Black N80... 0535762
A colleague successfully updated just now, using the product code "0526966", as in the guide.
He got firmware variant "(03)" and was able to select London as the city and the phone is in English.
dez. what does *#0000# show your firmware as with that product code?
(or did you phoenix it? 🙄 )
according to pheonix loaded with the .42 flash pack
Euro 1 Smooth Stainless is 0529378
Euro 1 Pearl Black is 0529381
0526966 is Scandanavia Smooth stainless

I'm on orange. Have a stainless steel N80.
Followed instructions, used above model number.
Flashed phone. Generic F/W.
Then used FOTA to update to .42
Brilliant!

Yep, same result. Only I'm on O2 - UK.
Hooray!
Edit: As noted before, PC Suite was NOT ABLE TO RESTORE THE CONTACTS/MESSAGES, however my contacts restored fine using the Sync with the Windows Address Book.

Yes, when V4 first came out I used Phoenix. Prior to that the last line was

I guess I am now stuck with Euro PB Variant 1.
Does anyone know how to set the country variant back to 58.01???

Yeah I tried this... it failed on the step - 'updating phone software' and now my phone is a brick... I wouldn't recommend it! Gonna have to call Orange for a replacement now...
Hello all.
I updated my O2 UK N80 using the above method and it worked a treat. No errors at all. 😊 :icon14: :icon14:

you need to update to generic firmware before you can use FOTA, it is disabled in the orange firmware, it will keep asking you to define a server, its found in menu -> connect -> dev mgr -> options -> check for update.
best to use wi-fi as i think the download was about 12mb.
nice this works. Havent tried FOTA yet as i am setting up my wiFi.

Hi all,
I hate to be a kill-joy but changing the phone's Product Code will invalidate your warranty with Nokia - at least it will do if you take/send it to an NCC for repair they notice the change... just be aware of the possible consequences.
Not wanting to finish on a negative note, forum users might avoid invalidating their warranty by changing the product code back to its original value after the FW upgrade is completed. The handset's original code is printed on the label behind the battery e.g. CODE: 1234567
Any comments or alternate suggestions welcome!
Dez 😊
I was just about to ask if changing to ur original code was ok to do, but you beat me to it. 😊
I used the number 0526966 to update my O2 UK to -
V 4.0623.0.42
20-09-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (01)
and after seeing ur post above I changed back to the code under the battery. Is there a way to check on the phone to make sure it has been accepted?
btw I used the NSS program to change the number.
which product code do i use to update O2 UK phone please
sorry for being thick but what is difference between
Euro 1 Smooth Stainless, Euro 1 Pearl Black and ordinary N80 code
do i connect phone using PC Suite and data cable?
