118 replies · 129,387 views · Started 01 November 2006

i have an nokia n80 on vodafone

i followed all the instructions, changed the product code of my handset.

i went onto the nokia software updater, it picked up and started downloading the new firmware. when it started top upload onto me phone 'signs' started to appear on my computer (nokia BB5....) and it also asked for the CD to find nmwcd.sys???

heres where i panic!!!!!

and i didnt know what to do, i insrted the CD in and nothing happened, now i have a dead nokia N80

please can u help me revive my handset!!!!!!

i need product code N70 australia or similar country pleas advise me if i can use this one safe to use

product code N70 0523982
Note that in the above, all codes are (I think) for FRANCE

like if i use it will i brick my phone

If you actually read through this thread you'd have found that WPKenny has already posted good instructions for doing just that.

hey thanks for the help, but my n80 seems to be alive. after the flashing went wrong i just disconnected the data cable and took the battery out. when i plugged it back in then the phone started working on the old firmware and running v 3.06 (42.02)

but now i need help on how i can fix this problem!!! i tried flashing again and the same problem occured.

i uninstalled everything that is nokia related on my computer and will try it again.

do u think the problem mite have occured because of the code i entered?? i didnt enter the one stated on the txt file. i thought i was for france so i used the code someone posted on this forum instead.
(UK smooth stainless steel...)

should i use the code on the document???

thanks

sorry i'm a new to this forum but where do you guys find the nokia product code? :con?

6680 - 0521637

6630 - 0518104

the guide says it's for france, does that mean the firmware is in french?
i googled for like an hours with no sucess... can somebody help me to find unbranded product code for nokia 6630, 6680 english verison for uk?
any help is appreciated...............

hello can anyone help me here? i have a bb5 phone and received a network unlock code from my service provider i entered it into the phone but got it wrong (3rd attempt) will a re flash of the generic firmware get rid of the sim code restriction from the phone so i can re enter the code correctly this time?

er... anyone tried updating with just the Nokia Updater -so no faffing around with NSS and GSM Magic?

Well, I couldn't get NSS to detect my phone for some reason, so I just updated with the Nokia Updater.

Worked fine! And it un-phoenixed my phone...

My original Firmware (that came with the phone):-

V 3.0614.0.3
11-04-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (42.02)

After Phoenix in June this year:

V 3.0617.06
03-05-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (02)

After a Nokia Updater Update:

V4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (42.03)

Am I reading these correctly?

Just joined up to say thanks for this awesome thread. I'd got fed up with Oranges stupid idea of crippling a phone with their idea of what it should have. Went through this guide tonight and worked a treat. Initially the NSU told me I had the firmware but I decided to throw caution to the wind and let it reinstall it. All seems to be working and I'm receiving an FOTA update which is installing as I type.

Thanks again for this awesome thread.

Apologies if this is old news but i haven't been on this forum for quite a while

I was just on the nokia site looking for my closest NSC, so I could take it to get the firmware upgraded.

Probably the old news time - you can update the N80 firmware from the site

absolute piece of piss

Could it be an issue with my router blocking the ports?
So near yet so far

Both Phoenix and NSU refuse to load on my Dell PC but work fine on my Laptop...

The Dell has a Dual Core P4 CPU and Windows XP Media Centre Edition
My Laptop has a Pentium Single-Core CPU and Windows XP Home

Does your PC have a dual-core CPU or XP MCE?

Dez

I too have ended up with a brick, I have managed to install phoenix but it refuses to recognise my phone. I was wondering if WPKenny could assist?

Firstly could you upload your firmware? I am unable to find a copy

Phoenix does not recognise my phone in usb mode and will not flash with the firmware I have selected, any solutions?

I am in warrenty and have opted for Orange Care so I'm not completely at sea but would like to try to fix it myself (although with you guys help) before I pay orange to do it.

many thanks

hello, I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I'm following the steps on the tutorial at the start of this great thread.
I have successfully dowloaded and installed NSS

My probem is the next program - gsm_magic

http://rapidshare.com/files/1236869/...magic.rar.html

I can't open this .rar extension therefore can't install the program

Does anyone have simple solution please?

Many Thanks in Advance😊 😊 😊

Hi Cyclone 😊 ,

Thanks for the link but still have the same problem Windows says it
can't open the .rar extension program.
It's really frustrating, I had a similar problem with a Bittorrent file with
the .rar extension I never opened that one aswell!!

Anymore suggestions would be very much appreciated?

You need a copy of WinRar... http://www.rarlab.com/

Well I thought I would share my thoughts on this.

I have successfully upgraded my N80 supplied to me only a week ago by 3 to Nokia's generic firmware by changing my product code and all went well. I then changed my product code back to it's original just in case I need to take it in for repair in the future after all it's only a week old! 😎

I then downloaded the .42 update via FOTA and the phone informed me that it would reboot and I would be unable to use it for several minutes however it simply rebooted and never installed the update???

It said in the info that I had the .41 version!

I then changed my product code back to the Euro 1 Smooth Stainless - 0529378 and run the whole process again and this time it did upgrade to .42!

I have again changed my product code back to it's original as stated under the battery. However my point being if you revert your product code back to it's original then any updates downloaded via FOTA do not install. (Or so it would seem)

Hi can anybody tell me why the 3 links are broken? and has anybody got any other ways to get to the links ?

Regards from Brian

Alrite troops just registered there, i work in a mobile phone repair center and can tell you for defo's the the product code for nokia in the uk are as follows

6630 = 0521009
6680 = 0524238

Also are you guys trying to use pheonix software updater without a FBS10 flash bay,

Phoenix 2006 flashes quite happily using the standard Nokia USB cable.

Hey guys,

I got posted this link from another forum and I'm really interested. I have 2 questions though:

1) Can somebody upload GSM-Magic again as the link on RapidShare has been taken down?

2) I have a Nokia N70, what would the code be for UK with this model, is it just Euro-2?

Thanx in advance and Merry Christmas!

You do not need GSM-Magic as the latest version of NSS allows you to change the product code!

There is a list of product codes on this forum from you to choose from, most go for Euro-1 but either will do!

Only difference is the language packs!

Sorted! Upgraded to firmware version
v 5.0638.3.0.1
18-09-06

One question though, would it make a difference if I chose the Music Edition instead of the Standard Edition?

Biggzy wrote:finaly for those of u who do NOT want to use phoenix to do a FW update it is now posible to update a branded firmware to a unbranded FW using nokias online firmware updater, download that .txt file, open and read, theres 3 links in there, 1 to nokias update app, and 2 others for changing the fones "product code", anyway have a read and try it out, its easyer than using phoenix

Is that method can be use to upgrade from N80 to N80i too ??

No, NSU does not support the N80ie!

You will have to use pheonix as did I, I found it simply to do and all went ok for me! :icon14:

Open NSS, click on scan for new devices located in the top right hand corner, now click on phone info and then scan which is located under the "actions" field. look to the right and you will see Product Code: with a blank field. Simply enter the Product code you want to use and put a tick in the box next to it and click on the write tab.

Done! :icon14:

I joined this forum to say a thank you for this thread - I have a Nokia 6630 on 3 (UK), and have successfully changed the product code to 0518104 (from 3's original 0521009) using the Nemesis software.

This then let me upgrade my firmware to the latest generic one, which is fantastic and completely unrestricted (okay it doesn't sim unlock the phone but there's no solution to that... yet!).

Cheers all.
