in the same situation i was given an extra fiver on top of the first credit, and i'm now at 7 something,

i was told i was on the wrong tariff and now everything seems to be fine..... 😊

I am also not convinced that making calls on my account without my permission was very professional....

Considering they don't know why I was being charged, and that they don't claim to have done anything to fix it, I am sceptical to their claim I will not be charged in the future. They also did not refund the charged call to my account.

They didnt credit the charges made to my account also ....

I also made a call yesterday to a french skype number and was charged 37p per minute, I quieried this with truphone and it appears that its a premium number, even though when somebody else calls it its not charged at a premium...so just be carefull when yuo call skype in numbers..

I made a 2 minute call to PayPal Executive Escalations (don't ask!) in Southern Ireland today and was not charged anything. Good. Cool. Long may it last!

I think VOIP systems should give the caller a voice prompt warning when a call is Charegeable, just like mobile operators do with 0800 numbers.

i think you should suggest this to the guys @truphone, they will be happy to hear from you, but i still think there is something wrong with their tarifs..

I am on the Three X-series plan and i thought it would be good if i could use Truphone with my 3 internet connection but it seems it only works with my wireless network. Anyone knows if it's possible to use Truphone with any other type of internet connection apart from Wireless?

Anyone else here had problems obtaining Truphone for their flashed N80? When I click on the link received in the text the resulting web page says that my phone isn't supported. I flashed to 4.0632.0.38 firmware. Only thing I can think of is the product code hasn't updated correctly.

After updating to N80 IE i sent a message to truphone, received the text with the link, tried it and it said phone not supported. A few days later, after seeing that some people on this forum managed to get Truphone, i tried again, sent the text and this time it worked, i downloaded it, installed it and it works. So maybe you should try one more time?

make sure you have the internet edition

Same happened to me. Someone posted details earlier in this thread relating to email registration via the Truphone Support Team, which worked for me.

By the way folks, once regsitered you must VALIDATE your email address and also your GSM number whilst logged into the Truphone My Account page. Until you do this, you are not eligible for any Free calls.

I have to say that i have made free calls for about 3 days before validating my email address, i even called mobiles in uk and abroad, and have not been charged a penny.

I think you only have to validate if you ask for an account from truphone by email, if you use the texting method then I think its set to validate automatically..

Just made my first Truphone landline call! I changed my prod code using NSS to N80IE and went to the address in my original text but it still said phone not supported. Requested a new text and I was able to download the app and register. I am now really pleased because I get extremely poor GSM signal in my house so great that I can now make calls using WiFi! 😊

It didn't ask to validate my mobile number, but it did ask to validate my email address.

Dez, GSM validation is required and should take place automatically at sign up. Email validation is required to be able to top up and also adds the feature of voicemail delivered to your email for free.

It works for me over a 3 packet data connection, just by setting the access point in the relevant SIP profile to "3". I was led to believe that there would be issues with latency, but it was fine when I tested it.

I'm on the Wireless Web 56 data package, if it makes a difference.

Graham

That's a good thing to know, thanx for letting me know Graham, i tried changing the access point in settings, but it always chooses the WLan, for a strange reason. I also searched on Truphone website, and they only refer to Wlan, don't say anything about packet data. I will give it another try.

Hi, thanks for the info. I could not get SMS signup to work so asked Tru Support to setup an account for me. I assume that's why I had several items to verify before I could get free calls?

Anyone had a possibility and tried to connect Truphone, Gizmo or one of the other voip providers using a 3G connection? Will it still connect and is there enough bandwith for good call quality?

Cheers,

I asked the same question, someone said they did, but then didn't explain how. So far i've been unable to do it, and i am starting to believe it may not be possible, because truphone always selects the wireless lan connection or it says not wlan present, and doesn't give any option to choose from the other connections.

I don't know how the exact connection process of 3G is technically working because I'm under consideration of it. But here in my connectionprofiles (menu>tools>settings>connection>access points) I see WLAN (blue) and provider profiles (yellow). These profiles are selectable when configuring the sip profiles (menu>tools>settings>connection>sip settings and selecting a desired profile > standard acces point). Therefor I thought connection with 3G should also be possible. But shoot when I'm wrong :con?

I set up my 3 connection in Sip profiles, but when i go to the Internet Tel application, it is always showing only my wireless connection, and no 3G connection.

All you had to do is ask 😉

Go to your SIP settings, and choose one of the Truphone profiles that you don't normally use - I've set up Truphone-travel for use with 3G packet data.

Change the Default access point to 3 (or whatever your packet data access point is called).
In both Proxy Server and Registrar Server, change Transport type to TCP.

Then kick the registration by changing Registration to Always on - you should see your packet data connection start up, followed by the internet telephone icon (the globe with a telephone handset) a moment later. You can change the Registration to "When needed" again if you want, this way the registration will only take place when an internet call is attempted - being registered with the service in this way keeps a packet data connection open constantly, and you won't believe how fast the battery runs out 😮 If you want to disconnect from Truphone when you're registered, just hold down the red key to kill your packet data connection, although it will just go ahead and reconnect again straight away if the Registration setting is on "Always on".

It's worth nothing that the phone definitely prefers a Wi-fi connection - so much so it appears that even if your default SIP profile is set up with packet data, it will go for a non-default profile first if there is one that has it's Wi-fi access point in range. However, this can also be really convenient - for example, if I attempt an internet call when in range of my AP, then it connects with Wi-fi, if not then a packet data connection is used.

For this reason, whilst you're in the process of first setting up a SIP profile for packet data, it would probably be easier to temporarily switch off your Wi-fi.

Try dialling 130 via Truphone for an echo test, you can see how the latency is affecting your connection (or not).

Believe me now?

Cheers,

Graham

Thanx a lot mate, it is working now. I tried the 130 and the latency is minimal. I will try a normal call tomorrow, as it's now too late (11.30 p.m.) This is a great thing as a WLan is not always in range when you need to make a call. I've got x-series silver (1GB of data per month) so i'm not worried about the costs of 3G. Happy now.

Sometimes when I connect to unknown available WLAN's I get yellow mario stars, those which make immortal for a short while.
The star shows up in the internet call connection profiles and are related with only those ap's. Internet browsing is working then, but internet calling not. So what is the star saying? Is it some kind of check wheter the ap is closed for internet calling or not?

Anyone experienced this?

I get the same yellow star but on a different program. I set BestCall Recorder to record calls, but when i check it, there is a star next to the call it was supposed to record and it says 0 seconds.

Hey sorry I have been ina bit of a day dream over this Trphone, how do call a PC ?

I have made tests on my E60 yesterday using t-mobile 3G. I have tested truphone and alternative configuration with my asterisk. I observed perfect quality with truphone (uses amr codec), with asterisk I had trouble in the upload direction (not enough bandwidth for g7.11), the other direction towards me worked well. But the good news it that it works, so it can be used when necessary. By changing codec to lower bandwith it can be also used with asterisk.

cbcharlie wrote:works, and works great. you have to flash to N80i, fw 4.0632.0.38, and just install the .sisx thats available from truphone. it works and ive already made a few calls with it. I bet truphone will never release it for the "N80". They'll just eventually announce support for N80 Internet Edition.

how do i get that specific firmware version?
just updated firmware using nokia software updater app and I now have V 4.0623.0.41

Is there any way to change codecs on the N80? I couldn't find any option.
