tried to flash my mates N80 today, got to 100% then says flash failed. Now it's dead. It says in the reaper guide that there are dead flash instructions but I can't get them to open. Any ideas ?

Hi Mic,

Sorry I cant help here .. I have had no experience with bricking a phone and then having to remedy, all the phones I flashed so far have thankfully flashed first time and OK, So I cant really advise on what you need to do.

There are others here who have managed to bring their dead phones to life .. I think Dez has some experience with this and I am sure he or others can advise better than me ...

Hope you get it working

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Just managed to flash my phone with 0539363 EURO 1 Pearl Black Internet Edition. Havent started using it yet but hopefully everything works. The # key still works to switch to/from Silent/Normal profiles.

One question (or obervation) - instructions say that the phone has (or recommended) to be fully charged. I was charging my unit using a USB charger and forgot to remove it when i started the flashing process - i hope it hasnt somehow wrecked anything inside. So far everything still works.

Thanks again Cash - you rock!!!!

Cheers ag 😊

I dont think anything would be damaged inside your phone...I think its just incase there may be a power surge or something that would disrupt the flashing process..

Now you need to get truphone to take advantage of the N80i 😊..

Hi,
I can't change the operation mode to normal (in phoenix).
So I can't update my phone... because it's in the wrong operation mode.

Can anyone help me please??

dez_borders wrote:Try a hard reset

Power off the phone
Hold GREEN, 3 and *
Power on phone and wait 30 seconds (still holding the three buttons above)

I also tried to flash my phone, at 80% I got an connection error message. Now my N80 is dead.

I tried to reset my phone as you suggested. But it didn't help.

Are there any other solutions???

Cool. I've got Gizmo on and tested - lags a little but otherwise ok. Not as good as Skype i feel but since Skype isnt on the N80, it's as good as i can get now. Only challenge now is to get my mates to get on Gizmo so I can benefit from it. At the moment, everyone's on Skype.

Unfortunately because the flash failed at 80% instead of 100%, your phone is almost certainly now in a condition that only trained Nokia Service Engineers can repair.

If you got your phone through a UK Network contract, phone your mobile operator and just claim it stopped working. They will advise you what their returns process is, or tell you where your nearest Nokia Care Centre is located.

Provided you have the original invoice or despatch note for the handset, the repair will be free of charge. If you bought the phone off eBay contact the seller and ask them if they are willing to send you the original invoice, or have the handset repeaired on your behalf.

Alternatively,... older versions of Phoenix contained a dead-phone flash function. I still have the setup files for Phoenix 2004 and could upload them to rapidshare for you tonight. However i am not 100% sure if this version (a) has the Dead Flash Mode and (b) supports the N80. It's up to you if you want to try or not. I doubt you can make the N80 any more dead than it already is.

Best of luck!

I cant get the NSS program to change the product code... I know ratkat says its not necessary, but considering that I'm UNABLE to do it I'm worried that I shouldn't go on until I'm atleast able to perform this step.

Anyone?

Hi!

I have the same problem too, Nemesis wont detect my N80. When installing Nemesis I can not see USB drivers to be installed. Any ideas? 🙄

Regards,

HiH

Flash my N80 lat night. All seems to work OK. It was lock free (01). Now it is N80I PB (01)
EDIT: I did not change the CODE with NSS. Phoenix warn about it and modify the code
during the proccess

Just thought i'd mention. If you have previously flashed the firmware before, to remove previous firmwares from your computer, Thus eliminating the chance of phoenix not selecting the right combination of files

Cash.

Something that it might be worth adding your guide

'Once you have connected your phone via pop port/usb to your computer, don't under any circumstances touch or move the phone or usb lead until the flashing is complete'

Nokia 'Pop Port' is a very poor connection method and the slightest movement can disconnect it, thankfully the forthcoming N95 is moving to the much more reliable 'mini USB'

This is for European but you can use the APAC firmware instead if thats what you require

Instructions

First change product code with NSS to allow flashing to N80i

1, install NSS and run
2, plug in phone and select "pc suite" on phone
3, in NSS click "scan for new devices"
4, Click phone info
5, click enable product code and enter 0543922 (this is for Euro with English but other codes are below, if you want apac then remeber to use the apac firmware)
6, Click "write"
7, when complete unplug phone and exit NSS

UNINSTALL ALL RELATED NOKIA PROGRAMS AND DRIVERS, THIS INCLUDES NSS, PC SUITE, CABLE DRIVERS AND ANY PREVIOUS INTALLATIONS OF DIEGO, PHEONIX ETC.

Now run the 2 firmware files, 15.00 first and then 15.01 ( this is for euro)

Now to install pheonix

1, Run reaper, all instructions are included within reaoer, you dont have to download anything because all files are included here.

2, Follow instructions "how to install pheonix" (skip the download files part)

3, install Diego

4, open pheonix dongle crack (double click on it but dont install yet)

5, install pheonix untill it prompte for dongle not found.

6, click "retry" and run crack immediately and press "yes to all" in new window that opens, if done correctly then pheonix will continue to install normally, if you didnt do this correctly then close current pheonix installation and re-start pheonix installation from step 4 above - YOU HAVE TO DO THIS STEP VERY VERY QUICKLY OR PHEONIX WILL NOT INSTALL AND YOU WILL HAVE TO TRY AGAIN.

7, It may stop installing pheonix with "DESkey not found" click on yes twice then it will continue to register dll files (in some cases you will not get this message untill after you restart your computer if prompted after installation)

8, restart your computer.

9, copy pheonix crack and framework.dll into pheonix folder (this is the folder that you installed pheonic into . probably C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix (but this may be different on your PC)

10, Run pheonix and enter your details...now pheonix will work.

To install firmware into your phone

1, back up your phone to the memory card, and then remove the memory card and sim

2, turn on phone and accept to use without sim

3, connect phone to PC with USB cable and select PC Suite

4, wait while the drivers are installed

5, you should have the latest firmware pages..if not then download via reaper

USB Flashing for N80

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FULLY CHARGED BATTER (VERY IMPORTANT)

1, run pheonix and click file ->manage connections
2, click on the new button
3, tick USB and click next
4, it will find the handset connected via USB and click on next
5 it will display USB and click finish
6, Now place USB on top and click on apply -> close
7, click on file -> scan product
8, you will notice the handset has been detected, (look at the very bottom line of the window to see the phone info)
9 click on flashing -> sw update
10, select your product code (the code previously eneterd in NSS above) and click start
11, now pheonix will flash your phone...leave your phone alone and do not dissconnect the usb cable as this will damage your phone.
12, after flash is complete a message will say "USB flashing successfull", your phone will boot up and will take 1 - 3 minutes to start so be patient

YOU NOW HAVE n80I PHONE

Notice you will have an internet folder, after you restore from your memory card the internet folder will dissapear and contents will be in "my own" folder.

I take no responsibility for any damage caused to your phone, this is entirely at your own risk, and this will also probably void your warrantee.

flashing -> sw update>>enter product code 0543922 >> start

ERROR is :

Changing phone's operation mode failed
do you want to retry?

HRESULT 0x80043005(-2147209211)

CMtcFFN:Setcurrentmode, transition not allowed;mtcfn=0x80043005

Only changes I see from standard procedure . during phonix installtion i have block internet access to application called "Root" .and removing sim and Memory card when i reboot my cell i ask for nothing (use without SIM etc).

Don't worry, if you flash with Phoenix 2006, just select the relevant product from the Software Flash menu - e.g. Euro 1 Black or Euro 1 Silver etc.

Phoenix will warn you that the code is different from the one in the phone, but if you click YES to continue, it will change it after the flash is complete.

Usually changing the phone to GENERAL profile and leaving the SIM CARD in prevents this error.

Hi Gang,

I am scared shitless when it comes to using Pheonix. I wonder if it's possible to change the product code in NSS and then update the firmware with NSU. I guess it also depend if Nokia has the firmware for N80ie on the upgrade link. I hope some1 can shed some light.

Cheers,

ikdo

Yes it is possible and no the N80IE firmware is not currently avialable on the NSU

To be honest once the software is installed Pheonix is as easy to use as the NSU and to be honest is in my view safer than the NSU

I have heard more 'brick' stories from people updating with the NSU than through Pheonix.

I dont think the firmware is available on nsu yet ..

I agree with this.....

Woohoo.... again an new proud owner of a upgraded N80ie. Worked without any probs and had to do the flashing twice because of missing dutch language in the EURO1 pack.

Now quickly continuing with voip, truphone and restoring all my old installed stuff.

BTW, did anyone restored data from its mem card or pc suite backup files ?

Thanks for sharing all the knowledge and tools,

F

There's been a warning posted in AAS forums that restoring a backup made in a previous FW can cause minor problems... best to use PC Suite to re-sync your contacts etc.

I've already got a working 2006 Phenoix on my computer, do I need to uninstall that before downloading and extracting the 2 firmware versions?

And by running the firmware do you mean extracting it? Or is it actually an .exe file?

thanks

You probably don't have to do this, but my own best practice is to delete the folder c:\program files\nokia\phoenix\products\rm-92 to completely remove old firmware before extracting a new N80 firmware for use with Phoenix.

When people talk about running the firmware, they almost certainly mean double clicking the exe to extract it from the distributable package to the above folder. You need to launch Phoenix to actually flash the firmware into an N80.

One additional thing, I read somewhere that Nokia's changelog recommends upgrading to Phoenix 2006.34.2.156 for full compatibility with the IE firmware. I certainly always follow this advice as I don't want to risk bricking my phone. What versions of Phoenix 2006 did other forum users flash IE with?

what does APE->INFO:Ppub keys not programmed to phone mean? got this from phoenix but my phone is ok

hkchamp wrote:what does APE->INFO:Ppub keys not programmed to phone mean? got this from phoenix but my phone is ok

I got this also when I flashed a friends phone, but its working fine ..not sure what the error means though ..

Hi, tried searching something similar but i couldnt find anything, i currently have a Nokia N80-1 the firmware is V 4.0623.0.42 20-9-2006 Rm-92 Nokia N80 (14) which i guess must be a chinese firmware version or something of that sort. Is it possible for me to update it to a european version or can i just leave it as it is what would you recommend ?
Thanks for any help.
